This was a very nice video. Amano is one of my favorite artists and as you said, i am often shocked that he is not better known. At the time of my comment he has done several western projects like MtG, Cupehead, more comic work and others. There are some fantastic live drawings of his on youtube. If youre looking to do legends, I would suggest Ms Ayami Kojima, the concept artist for the Castlevania series. Best known for her work on Symphony of the Night. She is a self taught artist who uses a variety of medium to complete her extremely detailed work, yet theres very little information, comparatively, about her.

i love amano's art.. i really fell in love w it.. even more now as im getting older and got back to drawing..doing what he does..i understand better how much emotion he puts into his work.. is amazing..

Hey Rich i have to say i love your videos and that they are criminally underrated. As someone who doesn't really read comics but loves that style of artwork I normally wouldn't be exposed to a wide variety of artists. Your videos have introduced me to some of my favourite illustrators and sequential artists and also helped me build my own skills. So thanks and a big thumbs up. Keep up the awesome work.

Good artists in general don't get mainstream recognition. Everyone knows Spiderman, far less know Berserk. Music is the same. At least after listening to Porcupine Tree for 20 years, Steven Wilson is finally getting recognized for the genius song writer that he is.

Alex Nino would be a good Legends study. Also Michael Golden’s run on The Nam. While his line work is spectacular, I haven’t heard too many people talk about his coloring which is also stellar. The Nam is an interesting study because it was also released magazine size with just his line art. I don’t know how many issues he colored of The Nam, but he did color a lot of his other work also. His Star Wars story is included in an Artifact Edition, so line and color work could also be compared.

I definitely see Klimt influence, especially in the application of gold leaf. The other guy that comes to mind is Michael Kaluta, some of his color pieces done for covers and calendars that are watercolor over ink drawings. Oh, yeah, I guess I'm busted on the Lovecraft artist. It's Michael Whelan. I'm pretty sure this came up before.

When I discovered Amano, I noticed there was definitely a Kaye Nielsen influence in his colour work.

amano was a fan of frazetta and neal Adams and moebius and many more :) at least that's what I saw in a documentary.

Although I do wish we could've delved a little bit more into his career as a character designer with Tatsunoko Productions (he made some of my favorite superhero designs of all time!), I absolutely loved what was explored here!

12:26 or so. I believe the "rug" piece is intended to be a top view looking down, the rug is D's coat and colorful scarf capes, the woman swoons/feints in his arms. I just read some lore that says people swoon in front of D all the time, he has unearthly good looks or something.
