The best part of this "Budget Build" is that you aren't skipping any steps or taking short cuts. It seems that you are putting as much labor and quality in this build as you did the other truck. On this one you are just not spending as much on parts and material. I'm enjoying following this project.

Exactly! It’s going to be a solid truck!! Just not as many cool parts

Austin, when cutting cylindrical materials, especially with band saws, use a v- block made out of a 2×4. You didn't fail, you adjusted your plan.

Air filter needs a heat shield... Build it, way in your skill set. Also clean that fuse box mounted on the fender. Good work so far, as expected. You set the bar high on the TDIota. Tint.......the red fishbowl. Good content keep it coming.

Replacing the ECM will help how the engine runs, since right now it's being told to run with an auto. It will probably run smoother and idle at a slightly lower RPM. You should also look for a fan shroud, it will help with cooling in slow traffic or on the trail. (you'll probably need to trim it a bit to work with the body lift.) Too bad you don't have a lathe, it would have worked well to part off the body spacers.

Gravity bleed or do the one person bleed. I love it. Fill your master cylinder then in like a 16oz soda bottle or something fill 3/4 with brake fluid. Then get a peice of hose that just fits on your bleeder screw(zert value) make it long enough to go to bottom of bottle while its on the ground. Then open bleeder and go pump brakes like 5 times really slow. Next close bleeder fill master cylinder and repeat a couple times. Do to all tires. Its the best system ive found. Try that. I have done the same swap, get rid of the body lift and cut a small hole in the hood where the intake hits. Then mount a hood scoop. I used one from a Subaru.

Mine has a 2 inch lift And had to make the firewall bracket around the steering arm reposition for clearance. That 3 inch must be miles out ! REALLY enjoying this content. You make it look so easy. You really know your stuff !!

Great builds! I did this swap a couple of years ago on my 88 xtra cab. With the ecu, iirc, you want to match the year ecu to the motor. (97-03 ecu's are different than the 95-96, in that they can accommodate a supercharger better. Sensors, monitoring, etc.) With the intake, a-fe makes a tube that looks stockish, and gets rid of all the resonator/baffle junk. Pair that with a stock 5vz air box, and an a-fe reusable air filter, and you'll be set.

Coming right along. Totally agree on the airbox. Install a snorkel... even though it is a budget build. You have to do something... looking good.

I've heard that if you put a load on the old wiring harness connectors with a light bulb or balance resister the codes will go away. That's worst case scenario if you can't find a manual ecu.

I installed a body lift on my 95 4runner and the most cost effective route I found was to buy uhmw plastic material and then cut it with a chop saw and drill holes in each of them. I think I bought a 3ft stick of it off of eBay for like 20 dollars and then of course I bought bolts but it seemed a lot cheaper to do it this way

Too late I'm sure, but those lift blocks looked to be a plastic. Even if metal you could have built a wooden jig to hold them and sand them flat. The jig could expose both ends so that you mount the block once and just flip the jig around. This would be one way to get a square cut.

Pretty much every Toyota I ever owned well both my 99 Tacoma and my 99 Camry I had at one point those both have and had a check engine lights on . My friend also had a 98 Corolla got his checked by his friends grandpa took apart the whole motor pretty much I heard and I got mine checked by my cousin who is a Toyota certified technician after he did a nice tuneup in the car for me . My cousin could not find any codes popping up so my cousin said after driving it said he drives like a 99 everything sounds normal and my friends grandpa said he couldn’t find anything neither. Also a bunch of people in the Toyota Tacoma group I follow on Facebook say sometimes I just comes on it’s weird like it won’t show any codes or nothing so you might have one with the light just on. I say just roll with it and if anything reset the light if that’s possible
