You can try to advance your pump timing a few degrees and that should help with the high egts. It'll help get the fuel to burn a little more complete in the cylinder vs allowing some of it to burn or escape to early into the exhaust. It helped with my 03 tdi a lot and doesn't smoke quite as bad as it did either

I can look up the specs of course but what is the main advantage of the TDI engine over the yota 3.0 or 3.4L. I get that the MPG is a little better, but are you also gaining HP and torque?
@georgehennen46592 жыл бұрын
The answer is yes to both those questions. The 3.0 has head gasket issues. The 3.4 is just underpowered
@oldowl42902 жыл бұрын
@@georgehennen4659 I have the 3.0 and the head gasket was replaced under the recall at ~100k miles. I’m now at 175k with no issues. So to my knowledge it’s not a huge thing, apart from the original OEM gaskets. I’m much more concerned about the well known head cracks of the 3.4 which cannot be repaired. So I’m looking at the TDI or even the new Cummins 2.7 crate diesel (which seems best since it’s a new pre-built). I’d probably prefer the yota 3.4 due to the ease of the swap but again, just seems like trading one headache for a bigger one..

Hello , Austin. Just an opinion - by the sound of the engine I would assume your turbo does not work - I understand you swapped with a bigger one , but I don't know what type and how it is controlled. This is also a possible reason for high exhaust temperature - if it is a new unit it should work , so I would assume there is something wrong with the way it is "controlled" - I would assume your EGT is decreasing after you drive a while because the software is remapping the engine due to high EGT . Also , an intercooler (or intake) leakage will have the same effect . There is nothing wrong with the timing , or mapping ,I suspect , maybe injectors are not quite "equal" but they seems to work well enough , but definitely there not enough air . Hope you do not mind .
@austinniemela4 жыл бұрын
28 psi and the turbo doesn’t work!!
@austinniemela4 жыл бұрын
Also injector balance is great, all couplers and piping is new, no leaks.
@gvaly6994 жыл бұрын
OK , seems to be a good pressure (1,9 bar -28 Psi ) , but I would go further and ask you if you are sure it is "relative pressure", not "absolute" one ! What that means is the device measuring your pressure has already extracted the value of atmospheric pressure from measurement and displays for you the" relative" value - if this is relative value(28Psi=1,9Bar) then your DIESEL engine should sound more like a (turbo)jet !(!) If it displays an "absolute" value then the real pressure is somewhere around 13Psi, way not enough , and it actually "sounds"that way , but I could be wrong. You could determine that if your pressure start increasing from "zero" or it starts from 15 Psi up. If you are correct and the turbo works , then I would suspect something wrong with what is called "valve clearance" - it should be specific for that engine (I do not know what type is it) , I saw it has hydraulic lifters - or with the system that regulate the "valve clearance" via oil pressure . Also if this is true , the inlet pressure should be higher than what you have . Thank you for your patience .
@austinniemela4 жыл бұрын
@@gvaly699 yes lifters are hydraulic so no adjustment. My boost gauge measures actual pressure. So 0-28 psi.
@gvaly6994 жыл бұрын
So the pressure should be OK for now. Turbo has variable geometry control , waste-gate control or no control( a picture would help, or I would try to find some images in your recordings) ? If there is variable geometry , a faulty control valve will not adapt the turbine at low rev especially and the engine will be noisy , with low power and black smoke( like yours) - it will still make boost at high revs . Regarding lifters , "hydraulic" does not means "no adjustment" by default - in your situation , with a fix camshaft touching lifters there is one possibility to use hydraulic lifters only for valve shock damping , in which case you will have "fixed" clearances for intake and exhaust , values that should be set according to engine specifications(lifters pre-load) - the values should be engine specific or lifter specific possible , if you are using modified lifters. . Also , these "fixed" values will actually vary depending on oil pressure and you will have certain values with cold oil and another with hot oil - this could explain EGT decrease after driving a while - using thicker or thinner oils will have different effects also. A second possibility would be to actuate lifters in a controlled manner via oil passages through cylinder head - all depending on engine type and/or management system . I do not know what engine type you used.

I think your problem is the fuel pump. You should have no fuel pump giving diesel to filter. Even though it is a low pressure pump. I have 109 injectors bigger turbo and I have no leakage problems.

If you had no budget why did you not put a Cummins crate motor in it? Those things will run like forever and get amazing fuel mileage! But other than that it is a sweet truck!

Look at power/weight. Weight of truck, weight of engines. The 4bt engines are used in huge delivery trucks. 1.9 turbo tdi yields great mileage, power while saving a ton of weight. They are half the weight and in stock form 15 hp different.

The Cummins crate motor is a smaller Cummins and is is popular to put in Jeeps, smaller trucks, I have seen a few in Toyota FJs etc..... They even make wiring harness for Toyota’s and engine mounts
