As an 85 year old, white haired Canadian man, I love being in Asia where my colour of hair means I have wisdom, knowledge and experiences which younger folk don't have. I'm treated with so much respect. In the West it seems to me that grey hair, white hair or no hair means your brains have gone. Ms. LaFlamme is the kind of journalist we need - she thinks before she speaks and is thoughtful and professional; sadly it seems that CTV/Bell don't think that's important. I won't be watching CTV. A number of CBC journalists have reached the grey/white haired stage so it'll be interesting to see what happens to them - if they don't turn to the dye bottle.

Grey hair means nothing. It means instead of black hair you have grey. It’s a myth to think that grey hair would mean the person is an intellect. You can see in this interview that she has aged. She was canned for this reason, nothing else.

How can you not see that she was not fired for her gray hair but for her whiteness? Have you not noticed that they get rid of every white person they can and replace them with a brown one? Have a look around there is dozens of lawsuits currently before the courts for just exactly that, firing people for being white. You won’t see that story on the news though because they do not want people to start sticking up for themselves.

Adrienne and Lisa are two amazing journalist/anchors. They are incredibly smart, brave, talented women. This is such a superb interview. It's clear that Lisa is constrained legally which is unfortunate. I think Lisa's mindset is so incredible. I think it's so wonderful that Lisa watched Adrienne every night. I have not been able to watch Omar Satchedina. I wish I could. I did watch him before this outrageous act by Bell was carried out. But I have no interest now to watch Omar. Actually it was quite a scoop for Adrienne to get this interview only to be repeatedly interrupted by totally unrelated news & commercials. The audience expected much more from Lisa but was disappointed by "legal constraints". So much for freedom of speech. CTV / Bell got off lightly. O Canada! We at home deserve to know the truth and not be treated with kid gloves. This won't go away anytime soon.

I remember seeing HUGE billboards with Lisa and her gray hair in downtown Toronto. And as a young woman, I thought "Thank you Lisa! Trailblaze!" And also "It's about damn time!!!" Women aging and having gray hair shouldn't be considered "brave" - but because of what our society expects from women, it is. Lisa's experience, talent, wisdom, and warmth in such a trusted position of leadership was grossly undervalued. The optics of her dismissal are horrible - and truly a loss for Canadians. After 35 years, she deserved FAR far better. I hope she ends up doing something great in the wake of all this.

About damn time for what, exactly? Time to care about her hair? What the hell does hair have to do with it? She had a 35 year career and CTV has a right to decide its time to give some else a shot, don't they? This fall out, this idea that she is being sidelined for being old to me seems hyperbolic. She's beautiful but maybe, just maybe her contract not being renewed has nothing to do with her being a woman or the state of her hair. Maybe it's a female thing, thinking the state of your hair is really that important because as a man, if I looked at that billboard you mentioned, I would see a good looking woman...not some old news lady that needs to be replaced with a "hot" chick. Do you honestly think the men are that dumb but still somehow have managed to "control" the fate of women? Have you met women?

This interview is important, and people need to REALLY pay attention. There are three great quotes that I want to amplify: 1. "How do you navigate going at 100 clicks an hour and then not." This completely sums up the feeling of being a smart, competent, high-achieving woman in a corporate world dominated by cold, burnt-out, outrageously rich men. Without warning, you get discarded like trash and are left trying to understand what happened and what to do next. This hurts businesses and societies. 2. "You can take someone’s job, but you can't actually erase their history." These companies make you sign NDAs to silence and isolate you from your support network, and then these same people try to rewrite your history. It is DISGUSTING that CTV tried to cancel her. A way to handle her departure with grace is to have an authentic conversation, celebrate and AMPLIFY her legacy as a parting gift instead of staying silent and then calling it a "business decision." This is pre-fab HR/legal language used to prevent a lawsuit, and it tells me that CTV is going the way of Fox “News” by rewriting its narrative by hiring influencers/lobbyists and not journalists. THIS is what made me block CTV and Bell Media from all my feeds. It’s a really bad look for the company and for Canada. 3. "In every sector, there is discrimination against all women." I see racism, ageism and sexism EVERY single day in business and company owners know exactly how to talk around the issues to avoid lawsuits. This is NOT ok. The flip side of this is that I coach and mentor many incredible humans who are entering the creative, tech, science and business world. And they are a wave of intelligent, creative, unbiased, critical-thinking people who won’t work for big companies that have a history of inauthenticity, ignorance and bias (or who have large marketing budgets to create false narratives). These talented principles-driven people are our future. You have a strong, amazing voice, Lisa. This is a challenging bump in your story, and from it, you will learn and grow past the shackles of Bell Media. Sending sparkles in your direction!

IF management had returned to previous "Pandemic Coverage" Lisa did tell us, on air, that she was letting her hair grow grey. Back then, one could not get a hair appointment, none of us could get into a salon because of shuttered shops, and she was standing with us, for all the women, in solidarity, and she made an executive decision about her hair color. And in the end, the mysoginistic management, made a judgement call on her decisions. I don't think that man even took into consideration what we all went through together, during the pandemic. It was totally unfair, and a black mark on the motivations of management and CTV National News.

I also add that at the time, (during the Pandemic) nobody said anything to Lisa or US on air, that there was an issue with Lisa letting her hair go grey, NOBODY!! Nothing was said, until the management hired Michael Melling. It was HE who made this mysoginistic decision. Then he left his post because he knew he made the wrong decision, and left before he could face consequences for his stupidity. I'm sure many others in the CTV newsroom had hair issues because they could not get into a salon because they were all shuttered. I imagine that men are threatened when a woman makes an executive decision about herself, that makes men nervous, that they are loosing control over them (read: Women)

Lisa spent years reporting on Dramatic losses and change.Yes; Lisa is now experiencing the reality of loss and change.This is a real learning lesson for Lisa.She is now a different person in that she has a much greater feeling for the reality of personal change.There is no doubt from this interview Lisa has been shaken to her very core.The positive aspect is she has had 35 years of reporting the News and has the opportunity to slow down with financial benefits.All theses type of experiences take the rough edges of our character and we come out of this much better human beings with the ability to empathize with others going through dramatic changes and feeling loss.Adversity that appears in many different forms brings forth strengh in character.Lisa is trying now to find her path forward.It will take time and the energy to explore all the options that can be found.Out off all this Lisa will come forth a much better journalist with a more balanced understanding.

Lisa LaFlamme was the only news anchor my parents really enjoyed watching, and now they mostly watch Global, CBC, and/or CityNews. CTV really seems to have vastly underestimated Lisa LaFlamme's popularity with Canadians, considering the near-unanimous outpouring of support for her after Bell's disgraceful treatment of her, especially at the height of her popularity with viewers, and it was such an outrage that the news grabbed headlines around the world. CTV have retired many older anchors and reporters both nationally and locally and I've always hated to see them go. Wishing Lisa LaFlamme all the best in her new adventures and hope she can find a new anchor position at a news organization that appreciates her journalism skills and treats her with the respect she deserves.

To replace her at CTV News with the lightweight that now anchors that newscast is the worst case of casting I've ever seen. What a monumental mistake that was! Hold your head high Lisa. You're an inspiration to all who aspire to do work with dignity and class. Well said.

If this were the United States, she would (and should) have been rehired already by another network. Yet, in Canada, everybody is willing to interview Lisa for the ratings... but it doesn't occur to anyone to have the decency to offer her a fulltime position? Rogers hired her for a single, temporary assignment with the passing of the Queen resulting in RCI benefitting handsomely from lots of nice press without hiring her fulltime. If the CBC is that supportive, they should offer her something. Lots of talk to benefit from Lisa's situation, yet nobody is willing to put themselves out there to offer her anything. I don't know what's worse, that this is what is happening or that nobody is calling this out.

@skycron
@skycron Жыл бұрын
@@linebrunelle1004 I'm sorry, do you work in broadcasting? Just curious what your professional background is to comment. Do you feel that people deserve to be taken advantage of, that Canada should have a reputation for this kind of behaviour and that we shouldn't support our own talent here? Interesting that having expectations of general professionalism equates to being on a "high horse" simply by virtue of recognizing that more professionalism has been demonstrated in a (larger) market that has become as successful and large as they have by supporting their own talent. That is the danger of kneejerk responses. The U.S. is but one example. We could substitute this with England, Australia, New Zealand. Could be any Western country; respect and professional standards are universal. We should be holding ourselves to a higher standard here. If others can behave properly, why defend lousy behaviour? She is not working in her chosen field, which she would like to. The point conveniently missed here is anywhere else would've been professional enough to offer her something given her credentials. This isn't something to be proud of. This whole debacle has made international headlines and other countries are rightfully criticizing the way this was handled. But "blah, blah", indeed...

I appreciate this interview that feels like a heart to heart meeting/exchange of two strong women journalists, feels authentic. Great respect for each and both and of their consciousness and work around women’s issues and the misogyny that continues to pervade all levels of society/institutions. Thank you both Lisa and Adrienne for who and how you are in the world and the work you do. I know we will be hearing much more that is inspired from Lisa as she resets her compass and continues. Just for the record I have not watched a CTV broadcast since Lisa’s firing.
