I loved Wanted on Voyage. I saw him on Graham Norton singing Budapest, I think, and was instantly googling him and downloading his album. A few days, maybe a week later, I was visiting my great grandmother and we were chatting when she said “I saw this musician on Jimmy Kimmel and he was so good! I think you’d like him, oh what was his name…?” And with zero knowledge of who had been on Jimmy Kimmel lately I said, “George Ezra??!” And she said “that sounds right!” And then I played the song on my phone and she said “yes, yes, that was it! Oh, I just love that. He’s got a beautiful voice.” And for that, he will always, always have a special place in my heart.

I went to BIMM with George and saw him play a lot of open mics. His sound was completely different and much better than the stuff he’s been releasing since he was signed. He used to have this dark folky kind of sound. Nothing pop about him. Having seen the before and after there’s definitely a big whiff of label/producer influence.

@@oscarh24 Bristol actually. But BIMM had had very little to do with it. They like to claim they had a part to play but as an example, George only did one year at BIMM because he was already dealing with label interest before he even got there. An example from my personal experience is that I spent ages over the course of my first year talking to one tutor who had contacts who kept telling me over and over that my band were something that his contacts at places like Subpop would be into but the mix of our record needed fixing. Then when he was happy with the mix he turned around and said the music wasn’t right. And that’s a pretty consistent example of BIMM if you ask me. That being said, I hope you’re having a better time of it than I did. That was about 10 years ago now so hopefully that sort of thing has improved.

I will happily admit to liking his first album, there are still many songs on there that I enjoy now. He seemed to change his approach after that to doing more anthemic pop tracks just like this. Pure mainstream. Sales are through the roof as he is now directly appealing to the masses. I think his music has suffered for it though. No substance to his music nowadays.

Heard Ezra in an interview relay origin of this song. In looking back at a journal entry 4 years later, he spotted "Green Green Grass, Blue Blue Skies, You better throw a party on the day I die." That day with friends he heard local music and headed off in pursuit. When there he asked what was the occasion - and learned that they were celebrating 3 lives lost. I think that says something about a guy looking for inspiration. What has your journal done for you lately? Don't keep one? End of story.

Just wanted to say, been listening to all the darkness stuff again lately. It’s been many years since I’ve listened to a full album (motorheart) and loved every single song on it. Last one was maybe nirvana -nevermind, way back when. Just listening to the complexities of your music, lyrics that make me laugh really just tics the right boxes every time. Rock & Roll deserves to die…my god, not what I was expecting, just amazing! It was so many of my teenage rock heros/songs all mashed into one song. I could hear the influences. Then to also go from slow paced, to rage and back, with one quick stroke of a chord…just phenomenal. It was like listening to zeplin, queen, megadeath, motorhead, ac/dc, Metallica, Thin Lizzy, Boston, the Eagles, with the 80’s kick back and more, all in a single song. I personally, never write this kind of stuff, but just felt compelled to comment. You’re doing Lowie, proud. Watching the concerts on YT and hearing you sound in perfect pitch, like the original recordings and they way you all sound live is incredible. Too, having Taylor on board really added such a fantastic new element the music overall. And to see that amazing humour also come through, all puts me in such a great mood every time I listen. Anyway, enough of the ego boost. Keep going hun, love it all. P.s…nice bum, didn’t expect that at the end. Super ‘cheeky’ love it. If you ever fancy a pint at the commodore, or lady of the lake, give us a shout. What cha reckon to Kessingland?

The formula has been found, the production hits you over the head like a bag of hammers wrapped in soft pillows, you have absolutely no doubt of exactly what you'll be experiencing for the next few minutes. Trite nursery-rhyme chord progressions, pre-chewed dance beats, the first time you hear it it's like you've been hearing it in dentists' offices for a decade. between 9 and 4, is that am or pm...surely pm in to am would be decidedly dangerous with listeners falling asleep at the wheel through musical boredom 😀

How can you follow...... You didn't hear it You didn't see it You never heard it not a word of it You won't say nothin' to no one Never tell a soul What you know is the Truth How can you follow? My favorite Tommy lyrics!

I love George Ezra's voice, but I wasn't sure about that music video when I first briefly watched it, perhaps it will grow on me. Edit, to to get an idea of the age of one fan, I'm 16, well 17 in a few days.

Well….started out with a folky singer songwriter vibe…..transitioning into a pop vibe. Kind of like Ed Sheeran. Right? 🤷🏻♀️

I've always wondered something, from my very little knowledge of the English language as a foreign speaker... What's the line "good day to you one and all *desire* " should even mean? Am I hearing something wrong?

This song is especially bad for George Ezra though 😂, those ‘Budapest’ and ‘Shotgun’ songs are very simple but catchy pop songs

Can we please have a loud “Justin Hawkins Rides Again” intro on an electric guitar? Maybe your fat headstock strat?

I'd heard a few George Ezra songs before. My main thought was that I couldn't understand what he was singing most of the time. At least though, he seemed to have his own sound that wasn't just the same modern pop muck. This song however, sounds like it may as well be by any modern pop singer, although I can understand the lyrics a bit more so I guess that's something. Stylistically, I'd compare it to when Jewel went pure pop. He hasn't quite committed to it to the same degree as he's still got the guitar, but it gives me that same sort of vibe. Not that either of them is the first to sell out like that.

Justin, love your videos and of of course the intro song as well. Would ever you consider changing up the ending chord to a G Major? The E minor is mysterious and intriguing, and like it a lot. However , an occasional G Major ending could give you that extended, “happier” Guns n Roses type ending aka “Don’t Cry.” Just a thought of course. Keep up the excellent work!
