I was waiting for the Pyrite to become available after watching your review on it and how much you like it until I saw the reviews on the Raccoon and it was available on Amazon for a very short period of time and I am glad I bought the Raccoon in green Micarta. For the price point of $59, you get a very capable tool, smooth button lock, Micarta, good steel, ceramic bearings, solid knife. I also just bought the special edition Pyrite with the titanium pivot from KnifeCenter and I like the Raccoon way more.

I've had the Vosteed Thunderbird for a few months now. Well worth the price tag! S35VN, button lock, and all of the means of deployment. The wire clip is functional as a work knife, and the compound grind is slicey where it needs to be.

@@CheshireGrinGuitars same. I saw a review on it on a channel by accident on KZbin. Fell in love with the blade and seen the price mentioned. Went over to vosteed and all they had in stock was the green one left. Great because Green is my favorite. The dark stonewashed blade or however they achieve it is also my favorite. I'm not really a satin guy. I like to see marks and I don't like glare. Even though I can't seem to put a mark on the blade no matter how hard I try. I bought it and it was the last one in stock. AMAzing knife. So Much figit!!!

The raccoon and the nightshade are 2 of my all time favorite budget knives. Been searching for a mini nightshade with no luck so far.

Just checked the price of the Raccoon and it's $59. So it's definitely an excellent budget option. I'd even go so far as to say it's possibly better than the "budget knife of the year" CJRB Pyrite, however I did notice that it seems to only be available through the Vosteed site, where it is currently sold out, so I'm inclined to still consider the Pyrite the better choice for most people simply because it's more readily available (it also has many more configurations and is $10 cheaper, which is nice).

Vosteed hit the ground running! I've picked up 5 different Vosteeds so far and they are great. The Nightshade is a cardboard killer! That blade shape is amazing at trapping material. The Racoon is my favorite so far with the Nightshade Th (thumb hole), Nightshade og (thumb stud), Belamy, and Thunderbird are in a close 4 way tie for second favorite. Their pricing is good $59 for 14c28/154cm and $129 for s35vn/m390 models.

@@8lias the Pyrite I bought is also a KC exclusive. The Ti bolster and micarta gives it character. The G10 is pretty bland. And the fat carbon and full Ti with s35vn are too expensive imo.

Literally the ONLY fault I can find with my raccoon is the ineffective jimping. It looks like Spyderco jimping but it's rounded and offers zero traction enhancement. I'll fix that with my jewelers files when I get a chance though. Everything else, the action, detent, lockup, unlocking, pocket clip, fit & finish and of course, styling is first rate! Vosteed has earned my business and loyalty.

I recently purchased the nightshade about 3 or 4 months ago, and I have been collecting knives for about 8 years, while serving in the Marine Corps(nothing over $120) and I have to say that the Nightshade is absolutely my favorite knife to carry. Sharp and stays sharp forever.
