I love how they added the fireworks. It symbolizes their relationship. It shoots up and shines bright for a split second then it goes away as quickly as it came but its one of the most beautiful things ever. I love how they did that with the movie.

Her husband pretty much ruined her reputation at work, always gave her a hard time, couldn't spend a moment talking without getting into fighting and arguing about stuff. If anything, her wanting a divorce (and quite probably going through with it) was going to be painful and harsh to Dean since he's not even his daughter's biological father, but it still was the right thing to do.

When you are truely in love its like the song! Nothing matters but you two...money, trips, possessions...none of it matters! You never want to be without them! I hope that everyone can find their soulmate...Im just sad that it took me until the age of 44....but better now then never!

Dean loved her at first sight, I wouldn't be surprised if she was his first love judging by the generally immature (not in a bad way) and innocent way he viewed love. I think Cindy just sorta fancied Dean in the way a young girl would with a charming good looking guy. But the charming kind good looking guy ended up as her only resort after she got knocked up by someone else. They were too different otherwise. Seen very clearly when you look at their respective ambitions, which were completely incompatible. Hence we have a relationship doomed to fail. Which just breaks my heart when you see their beginnings.
@Elif-oe6pi8 жыл бұрын
From a lots of points I agree, but the thing I do not agree is Cindy is not just fancied about him just because of his looks. He treated her different, her ex boyfriend was a total douche and Dean is pericious one of a kind person. She loved him, she totally loved him but love is just not enough for her. I guess she wanted that feeling when she felt they were together in the beginning of their relationship. Dean was still feeling it but Cindy wasn't. As Cindy said when she was talking to her granma about her mother and father, feelings can flew away suddenly and thats what happened to her.

ok I've seen this film twice now I'm convinced Michelle Williams's character never loved him. she chose the safe option when she was young and he was that safe option. she needed him for a lot of reasons.
+Andrew Heil Even the first scene where they have breakfast with the kid, says much about the character of both. And: Remember the abortion scene, when she says that she had ~25 lovers till then ? The Gosling character was lost from the beginning in this game. It's exactly the way you describe it: "She needed him for a lot of reasons". It's sad and ashaming, but people use other people all the time. In the name of love ofcourse...
@bigtux118 жыл бұрын
I don't know if I'd call him the safe option. If she went for security, she would have married a man with a wealthy family and a six figure salary. Instead, she chose the free-spirited drop-out trucker. I think that it was love, but it was so passionate that it consumed her and she ultimately decided what was best for her.
@StonedCabbage8 жыл бұрын
I'm sure she loved him at some point, it's pretty obvious in one scene where they are rolling on the ground together laughing and the marriage scene where she has absolutely no look of regret or a "what the heck am I doing" but of course over time she fell out of love with him which maybe not even that, she could still love him and just not want to be with him at all and is not attracted to him anymore
@gigid96067 жыл бұрын
maybe no one with a wealthy family was in her life or around her,she didn't have that option. This guy came along and made her feel good, and it was easy to slip into. Its not everyday that a wealthy guy comes into a girls life and sweeps her off her feet, thats not reality. But guys like Gosling, I see guys like that all the time.
@lookattheorion72504 жыл бұрын
I read a comment saying she never really loved him she just chose him because he was the safe option and people kept asking ‘how was he the safe option?’ And I don’t think it’s the fact that he wanted to be a father to her child but more the fact that she saw and knew his love for her was true and unconditional and even if she didn’t love him as much, she felt safe with him knowing he’d be always there, chasing her like a stupid fool, even if she lost those feelings over time. As for the ‘she was never really in love with him’ I truly believe she was, she loved him for what she knew love to be at the time. She was swooped away by his charm but eventually that went away as they aged and that love she had for him slowly drifted further and further away.

I just watched this movie and I absolutely loved it but I can't see how people think Cindy was the one wrong here? They were both at fault in their own ways. The movie portraited so well the start of a relationship that was amazing and they were both so in love, but as they started a life together and had a kid they just didn't seem to fit each over well anymore. He was a guy drinking too much for his own good and losing all ambition in his life, he stated he wanted nothing more than to be a husband and a dad. That's fine but he was a complete ass about it to Cindy sometimes, she couldn't say anything without him taking it out of context. They were getting on each overs nerves. Then there's Cindy who was clearly falling out of love with him faster than he was, they started seeing eachovers faults too much and Cindy just didn't seem to be happy and comfortable around him anymore. She wasn't ready to settle with him despite having a kid. The relationship was broken and that happens in real life, it just does. They both fell out of love with each over, although Dean didn't want to admit it. They weren't good for each over anymore, they had a fantastic relationship at the start but it just didn't work out anymore and they were both as bad as each over, there's no point in siding with one of them. It's a tragedy, it's upsetting but it's also real life. Not all relationships work out in the end.

I know this comment is five years old, but that's one of my favorite things about the movie is how well they made it not just the fault of one of them. Cindy had no energy left in her to have fun and be romantic, and no longer appreciated his goofiness she originally fell for. And Dean became a drunk and would always twist Cindy's words and escalate things for no reason. He was still a great father, but he wasn't a good husband anymore. It's just an honest tragedy of a lot of relationships, and it's so much more gut wrenching seeing it contrasted with the constant flashbacks to when they fell for each other.
