Back in the day when I was a patrol sergeant we did things properly. Constables had to parade on duty and be inspected. Constable Chav would have been instructed to remove her false eyelashes and excess make-up. Woe betide any constable with scuffed or dirty shoes. Visible tattoo's were forbidden. In summer arm tattoo's had to be covered with a sleeve if in short sleeve order. Standards have seriously declined since tunics were replaced with fleeces and soft jackets.

Constable Chav needs to focus on learning how to drive, the state of that parking is a disgrace. Incidentally (thinking of the blue line charity badge) a high proportion of deaths in the line of duty in the UK come from driving collisions. They should all be given ROSPA training before being given a set of vehicle keys, even for standard patrol driving let alone pursuit. This one probably thinks the rear view mirror is for slathering on a fresh coating of foundation make-up.

They wear a uniform to to standardise themselves, because they're meant to represent the larger whole, not their own individual characters. They're supposed to present as the face of law enforcement. So, crossing that uniform with the face paint of a street worker doesn't fit. She's working, not down a discotheque, on the pull. It's symbolic of the state of the force, and the fact that you don't know how one copper to the next will act, or if they even understand the law.

The blue line charity patch was adopted from a similar military one. It was originally introduced to raise funds for police charities. (Sadly the Chinese jumped on the bandwaggon and produced multiple counterfeit versions) The MET originally requested officers to remove it for just one specific event. The Commissioner later decided to ban it and all the other badges, ribbons etc except for 3 approved causes such as poppy day. The Home Office leaves it up to individual Chief Constables whether to allow the charity patch to be worn. NOTE the fire service have a red line version, ambulance service a green line and coastguard a purple line patch.

I think the public need their own for the nearly 2,000 members of the public who have died while in police custody since 1990. I am a Retired Police Officer and before that I was a Trooper in the Territorial Army. My Father fought in Burma in World War II, and my Grandfather was in the Army in World War I and at the Battle of the Somme on the first day. He was later Gassed. Three of my Great Uncles were soldiers in World War I. One was Killed In Action and another was temporarily blinded. My Father, Grandfather and the three Uncles were all Coal Miners, who, despite being exempt from being "Called Up", Volunteered to fight. I am also a practicing Roman Catholic. The Union Flag is made up of the crosses of St. George, St. Andrew and St. Patrick, all Christian Saints. I find it VERY offensive that a Badge is worn by a Police Officer, where the Union Flag has been defaced. I believe that one reason for the ban was that it was considered to be Far Right. I suspect that it has more to do with that obnoxious saying: "There is no black in the Union Jack!". Also, the Christian Saint Iconography would upset any Religion which believes that Jesus was not the Christ and Son of God. If the emblems of St. George, St. Andrew and St. Patrick can be defaced and shown in Public, am I allowed to say, burn a Koran? I should not be so disrespectful as to do so, and, therefore, I demand that Police Officers stop wearing that Badge which I believe is a Badge displaying hate and contempt for the Christian Religion.
