I feel people’s vibes toward me. If i feel that he or she doesn’t vibe with me a tiny bit, i back off. I like hanging out with people that genuinely likes and shows interest towards being friends with me. @@MartinAliberti well in this context if someone see's me as an introvert according to their own definition of an introvert then that's not a reality I have to live with but one they're living with. For example somebody might define an introvert as someone who is quiet, soft spoken and passive and in their minds they can make this mean that this type of person wouldn't do things like actively creating videos on KZbin or enjoying travelling and meeting new people. They are limiting themselves by not taking the time to get to know and understand the individual person in front of them rather than what they think they know about them. The only thing that really matters is how I understand my more introverted qualities and what I make that mean about myself.

I am a very confident person in myself, do well in large groups, in front of people and around people but, I find people tiring and absolutely love retiring back to my home space to enjoy complete and utter peace and quiet. I can’t bring myself to engage in pointless conversations or to laugh for the sake of not being awkward. I would much rather be in my own space than out and about and absolutely identify as an introvert

Holy crap!😦 It's so weird this video showed in my recommended list. I was just journaling today and I asked myself whether I'm a social creature who forgot how to be social. (It's weird cause I wrote it down in a book so there's no way my phone could have heard me.) 😅 I've always had a lot of friends growing up and I can get along with almost anyone but the last 10-12 years I've kind of been keeping to myself. I hardly see any of my friends. I can go for months without needing to see anyone outside of my family. I don't even really like texting and I only have one friend who gets this, everyone else takes offense. I was also thinking that I wouldn't mind befriending some high energy people and going hiking or doing other fun activities instead of what my friends and I usually do when we get together and that's smoke mj or occasionally drink and I find that those things drain my energy and makes me feel like I need a break from human interaction.

This is SO RELATABLE! I've been told so many times "there's no way you're an introvert, you must have so many friends"! We are all individuals - personally I can relate with INFJ / shyness / introversion. But I'm not necessarily the same as another person who identified like this! OPINION STILL VALID! The years of effort and personal development we've put into opening up and growing into ourselves - other people don't see it! Labels may or may not be helpful, depends on the individual, and we should respect that! And btw I ❤️ the glasses 🙌✌️

I agree! I am 32 and have been working on myself my entire life! At first to understand it and now to find a way to live in this world/society of extroverts and feel as normal as I can. It is OK to be an introvert and extrovert simultaneously (ambivert personality). Even though, I don't like attending the parties with too many people, there are other situations where I like being surrounded with more people. Being an introvert and constantly being pushed to socialize is absolutely draining. But sometimes I just get tired of giving explanations on being asked why I won't to a certain event or socialize with people like most of the people in my circle do. I am guilty of masking my introversion at times. It sure takes a toll later on. I am trying to fix it and be who I really am without bothering to give explanations or playing an extrovert. I am slowly taking courage to reflect and be better to myself first than to others.

Look i hate to tell you. But this whole introvert extrovert thing has no real scientific backing. What it's really used for is a massive coping mechanism. You can just blame all your problems on being introverted. Everything socially expected from you, no need to fix that nothing wrong with me im just an introvert. The problem is how serious and how far people take this whole thing, like its somekind of religion. And that's because they wouldn't rather live in their safe little coping box then accept reality.

@@yuibkys3522 Yeah i agree, there are many 'introverts' who are nice, pleasant, giggly, angsty, hostile, whatever. Just as there are many variables of extroverts. I do think that many people use introversion as a coping mechanism to a problem that lies somewhere else. Being quiet's fine, but the internet has shown that many introverts sort of use it to justify acting like an ass or something.

THANK YOU for addressing that being an introvert is not the same as having social anxiety! It drives me absolutely mad how so many people think introvert equals socially anxious or at least shy (and I bet plenty of shy or socially anxious people mistakenly define themselves as introverts for this reason). That just straight up is not what it means. If I see one more meme about "introverts" having anxiety about phone calls I'm going to SCREAM! I'm one of the most extreme introverts I've ever come across, I think I could genuinely go months without seeing another human and be perfectly content. I hardly EVER feel any longing for social interaction, I can't remember what loneliness even feels like, and whenever I'm around people I will pretty quickly get tired and need alone time to recharge. But I am not at all shy or anxious or any of those introvert stereotypes. I'm quite loud and animated when I speak, if I actually get into a conversation that interests me. I've had people who don't know me very well be really shocked when I say I'm super introverted, because I don't look like the stereotype people expect of someone who is staring down at the ground and speaking in a quiet meek voice. It cannot be stated enough that THAT'S NOT WHAT INTROVERTED MEANS!

one particular thing you mentioned really stuck with me. for years, I've always simply labeled myself as an "introvert". I felt safe and understood if I was under that label. but only recently, I've understood that it was my social anxiety and fear that was holding me back. throughout my school years I silently hoped people would talk to me, but I was too anxious to take the initiative. I realized that introversion/extroversion has nothing to do with how you openly behave at all.

Introversion has been a relevant theme for me as well lately. I was in a typical college dorm setting for a few weeks this summer and there would sometimes be several parties over the weekend. I would go to one on Friday and muster my energy to project the more social side of myself but then usually on the second day I would find myself having no desire to go to any parties or particularly social events. When I did go to another party anyways, there would often come this moment where I was just chilling on the couch away from the center of activity, just trying to regain my energy but also enjoying the experience in my own way for what I needed and wanted for that time. I didn't want to talk to people or seek out others attention but it was sort of nice to just lie down there and take in the music, hear the talking in the background and observe everything from the outside. Then some friendly folk would come over to me and ask me, as you had mentioned, "are you okay? Is everything alright?" And I really was okay. I was just doing what I wanted, it was a little asocial sure, but I didn't quite want to go home and sleep and that was a good middle ground for me. At some point it becomes quite annoying to have different well-meaning people ask you the same question many times and have to convince them that I'm actually fine and I'm just introverted. Anyways that was just a relevant memory but the thing I've been thinking about lately is actually the relationship between introversion and introspection. With this summer experience I had much more frequent social activity, especially coming from the pandemic, and along with the fact that I made several extroverted friends there with whom I could talk candidly, I think I became more sensitive to my own experience of introversion, that is, my perception and how it's different than that of an extrovert. I've reflected on how I identify with introversion, for example, I'm often thinking to myself and tuning in to my own inner feelings and thoughts. I suspect that, at least for me, introversion is a tendency to perceive inwards rather than outwards, to be introspective. I feel almost stuck in that tendency. I listened to these extroverts describe how they get energy just from being around other people -- a concept I have a hard time understanding because I NEVER feel that way, even at my most social moments, it may feel like a very efficient flow and synergy with the people around me and I am still playing off of them but I never thought I was getting any "energy" or what not from them ... although now I'm not so sure. Anyways I clearly haven't organized my thoughts very well about this subject but what I've been trying lately is to play with my perception and to try to get an understanding of what it means to look outwards and gain energy from others. I want to learn something by trying the thing I'm usually not doing. If introspection is a thing, then surely extrospection is a thing as well. And it kinda seems to be working? For example when there's no one around, sometimes I'll be looking out, at my back yard or whatever, and I notice that although my eyes are looking outward, I see so little.. my inner narration of thoughts and feelings are shaping my perspective of how I see the outside world so intensely that I sense that I'm missing details or a wider lense or something. I try to practice focusing less on what is going on inside and strain to observe what is happening around me and something sort of starts to change and I actually feel generally less anxious in these moments. I've tried it with people around with similar results; just by trying to focus on what they say and less on my inner reaction or feelings about what they say and trying to perceive their "energy", whatever that is, being social seems to come a little easier to me and I'm a little more on their wavelength (it's easy for me to lose track of the conversation sometimes). It reminds me of meditation in which the goal is to quiet those thoughts gently, not by dismissing them but focusing on something singular like one's breathing (I'm terrible at meditation but I think intro/extroversion plays a role in that process; perhaps meditating is balancing those flows of energies). One can do the same thing in social events simply by refocusing one's attention to what is happening outside of their body, heart, and minds and instead on how others are expressing information from those respective sources of their own. An introvert's - or anybody's - awareness of their self never fully goes away, that's impossible. No one is fully introverted or extroverted, it is of course a spectrum. There's a tendency, a flow of energies or direction of perspective/perception and one can play with that and try to bend it in the opposite direction. And we're not trapped in box, I believe we're all capable of flexing like that as humans. I think we have a lot to learn by trying to be what we're not, because it will move us towards balance.
@dr.garimadhull1451
@dr.garimadhull1451 2 жыл бұрын
This is near exact explanation to my thoughts about introversion, introspection, and trying to feel the energy not only of the people..but the surroundings in general as well.I feel being an introvert sometimes I'm so much focused on my inside aspects that I don't have the energy left to feel anything from outside.. shutting down the thoughts within just gets a bit too overwhelming at times and draining obviously. But yeah trying to consciously focus on opposites just might give an insight to different ways of coping or socially adjusting.
@MartinAliberti
@MartinAliberti 2 жыл бұрын
@@dr.garimadhull1451 I can definitely understand what you describe! Those sound like two extremes to adapting to introversion but since they're so extreme they seem like maladaptations. I think the idea of balance is good, to be introspective and extraspective at the same time. Aware of one thoughts and feelings but also perceiving the energy from others and world around you. We are already near that balance on a relatively introverted side. Instead to completely block our inner noise or let it play out on full blast to ourselves (ultimately counterproductive and exhausting), we should strive to let our introspective self remain speaking but also be more extroverted by putting a priority on perceiving the external energies over our inner energies. You have to focus to do that because there's that consistent pull where we end up introspecting again without noticing the shift. Like a a game of tug of war but the rope for some reason is automatically moving towards you and we should try to pull it away from us to reach a balance ... as uncomfortable or unnatural as that is/sounds But we can become good at any one thing when we practice it, right?

The key is to keep a balance between our introvert and extrovert version. If I'm right the term is called: *ambivert* thanks for sharing Lana.

i am the way i am. i relate most to the label of “introvert.” it makes me feel comforted, knowing that there’s other people like me and that it’s completely normal. i’ve been an introvert since i was a child, since a time i cannot even remember. my mom told me that teachers would worry about me (in preschool and elementary school) because i wouldn’t participate much, but nothing was really wrong. i was content with just observing people. i like to talk to people sometimes, but it’s exhausting and anxiety-inducing for me. for me it’s not a label i choose, but one that i relate most with.

I loved this video. Thank you so much. I feel like your videos should be shown to everybody so they can know about the differences of people, because you explain it so well. And also it would make my life as an introvert so much easier because I just can't or I just don't want to explain to people why I am the way I am

Interesting topic to tackle for sure and I agree with your final thoughts and that quote at the end. I feel like the more I analyze/define myself is the more I box/limit myself. Labels are truly a limitations, to a point were I hardly give myself a chance to surprise myself or do/try anything new. Ever since the pandemic began I found myself more on KZbin seeking companionship in reactions/reviews of the entertainment that i enjoy. I'd say it's more of a case of me having Social Anxiety, than being an Introvert.

i just want to say thankyou so much for making this video, its actually so important what you pointed out about identifying whether being an introvert is a choice based on preference or on fear. I sometimes catch myself backing out in social situations because of anxiety, even if i want to be there. I guess its important to sometimes just step out of our comfort zone and put ouselves out there if it really is a fear-based decision

a few years ago i met this group of people where we would hang out pretty much all the time, slowly i started to say NO to some invitations until i barely went out with them. back in the day i wouldn’t notice why i lost that friendship, in fact nowadays i do and i regret it. thankfully i learned from this experience that closing yourself is not always a good thing if you want to have a relationship with someone else, especially if that someone else is a person you really get along

Cool glasses! I definitely have limited my behavior more than once to stay within the labels I assigned to myself. Since realizing that I've been trying to stop defining myself but it's not easy. I like that quote at the end. I'll try to remember it.

Yeah i'm very happy lana that your addressing people's thoughts on this, because to be completely honest, i also wondered a few times if your a real introvert because you seemed quite comfy on camera, or were you just a highly intelligent academic who completely understood introverts. But this vid answered those wonderings anyhow 👍🏿

It's always funny when people go after introverts who make content. You'd hope they'd be intelligent enough to think about it for a moment. Behind the camera is no one, there's rarely anyone else involved. This is why the internet works for us, we can communicate without actually having to deal directly with people. And if at any point anyone becomes too much, we can easily ignore them. As for the labels, don't identify with them, understand what they are. They're descriptive, but not thee thing they're about. Especially when talking about people. Introversion is how we move through the world, but it's not a definitive "what we are." We'll become extraverts quick with the right people/conversion. With any label it's most important in how you see yourself. If someone is going to write you off or not because whatever it is we or they may toss our way, it's on us not to think we're only those things. And honestly how is anyone else really supposed to know who we really are? It's an unrealistic expectation. No one can ever fully understand someone else unless they are that person. No matter what we only have limited interactions, even with loved ones. How often does a loved one surprise you with something you didn't know about them? A gear in a watch is not the watch itself right? Same thing with labels. Same wya light from a bulb is not the bulb, and bulb is not the light.

The feeling that haunts me when I know that leaving school is strange with mixed feelings, I want to get rid of it, not because I study, the idea that I will make disturbing friendships, oh, at school, I stay alone, but when I see friends with each other, I pity myself and hope to be with them

Thanks Lana for this video! I really felt as if you were sitting in front of me and talking to me! here’s my little story : I am an introverted person and throughout my life I struggled to form relationships with people and I always had a problem to work with a group of people! so I looked for a job for introverts and found myself in the field of Graphic Design, I am very happy that I work alone in this field and I would like to tell all the introverts not to be ashamed of yourselves, but to be proud and look for a job that suits you and dream big!! 💙💫💫

I don’t usually plan anything with friends (it’s my time to be alone and do what I love)! I really look forward to this! My extroverted friends don’t understand but that’s ok with me because I’m doing what I love!

I've had issues trying to push myself to be more social in order to challenge my self appointed title of introversion. I have found I'm highly introverted. I need alone time in order to calm myself and recharge (just like you said). When I'm at social events I will also disappear for 15 minutes (maybe outside or in the bathroom). Challenging myself made me understand that I truly am in need of this recharge and its through challenging myself that I deeply acknowledged it as necessity.
