I stay in a profession that is dominated by WOKE ideology because I feel it's my "calling" to shed light in the darkness. It's a part-time endeavour. I dont get much financial reward for it, which drives my husband insane. 🤷🏼♀️ I teach children to "treat others how they wish to be treated," to take responsibility for their own actions, to show kindness to others, not disdain. I try to shine my light where the devil is preying on our youth. You would be amazed how just teaching little ones those basic skills helps them get through the day a tad bit easier. 😉

Agree. Wonder what impact would’ve had on the 60 million babies aborted if prelates from The 70’s forward had taken an overt stand like this sermon. Finally some individually and most recently the USCCB as a group have. A few lay sheep with a backbone have gone on the front lines to fight back all these years. Most, struggled uphill with limited support.Unfortunately there’s a recently appointed cardinal from the US who seems to think that the climate is a priority. Even though Pope Francis has caused confusion with many statements since his pontificate, he certainly seems to be clear about abortion “it’s like hiring a hitman” at least that’s clear but can’t help but refer back to the statement that a house divided cannot stand.

This hits right at the heart of both myself and surely most American christians. Where have we been re: our actions not just 50 years ago but yesterday, last week. It is past time that we start showing our love of neighbor bthrough our actions. Our votes, our vocal stances and our church attendance. Remember love is an action not just a verb.

Raphael, yes! After being Methodist for 20 years where what is taught is “I’ve thy neighbor” which can be translated “be nice” also has led people to be so compassionate for the sinful that they do not speak the Truth in Love but go along with the Sin so as to not be seen as uncourteous. We are called to Love the LORD with all our heart, mind, soul and strength which also means we are to be obedient to our Creator!

Why isn't the Catholic Church taking a pro active stance on abortion? Why are there no " prayers of the people" said for the innocent victims, those aborted babies? Priests are avoiding this topic to the dismay of many long time Catholics! Are they instructed not to do by higher church authority not to do so. If so, why. You used 61 million abortions. I posit that exponentially, It's over 100 million! Those aborted 40 years ago would have had families, then we would need no illegals in the USA to enter and supported by us Tax prayers who are under the thumbs of the Socialists in power. " Social justice and the common good."..I'm sick of hearing that! Do we wonder why church attendance is dwindling??

Bishop, This was one of the best sermons I have ever heard. I have been a Christian for over 50 year, been to seminary and am a regular at church. There is one thing about saltiness that no one ever talks about... it destroys as well as preserves. We have lost our witness in America. The idea that we are to be a plumbline, a guidance system for our world is long gone. The Tag "Stand in the way of Evil" in this context really gives us a monumental challenge. Thank you for your insights.

As a student, I once heard a priest explain this same text. He’d asked a chemist whether salt could actually lose its taste, and the answer was “no way”. The taste of salt is inherent to its very nature. I find this encouraging for all those who are plagued by self-doubt and wondering whether they are ever good enough.

Profound Homily. I’ve been mulling these questions over and over in the last 30 years. I think each of us can show our light in different ways, large and small. As long as we remain connected to Christ in his Church, and prayerfully reflect on Christ, his Mother, the Saints, Scriptures, and be quietly attentive to him, our lives will shine forth and bear fruit in words and good works. Without Christ, no matter what we do will have lost all savor.

One of the most powerful homilies you have shared with us. Ok so what is salt made off that has such a negative/positive impact? What is our Christian salt made off? What makes salt it’s flavor/power? What makes us to lose our way/power? We are talking about the symptoms in here. What is the root of these of these issues? We all of us need to do a deep self search. Not trying to fig what others need to do, no rather ea of us have to do a deep and profound examination in prayer ask The Lord to shine lovingly guides us through out the dark halls of our ways and lives We spend too much energy pointing fingers, that causes divisions, Churches need to encourage a whole community of a loving communal self search. We know His Loving Hand will walk us back to Him, when and if we ask Too much energy on others doesn’t allow energy to open our hearts to Our Lord No shaming, only taking ownership that we have lost oOur Compass , His way
