If you want to use it offensively use the Bonk Atomic Punch and Atomizer. As soon as you run past enemy lines you’ll always have someone giving chase. With your speed and third jump you can easily put a lot of distance between you and them and when enemies chase you back they never strafe, which makes them very easy targets to dust off from a safe distance. Instead of self defense in your home it’s more like self defense in theirs as the weapon works beautifully when used on either backline. Also Bonk gives you more options/locations you can engage a sentry nest from with your Shortstop. Also invincibility and greater pushback leads to some pretty wild sentry surfing especially with the Atomizer.

If you don't mind me leaving my two cents here I'll tell something: There's a reason we Scout enjoyers don't like this gun much and it's because it's niche is too, niche. Fun fact, Scattergun doesn't do that little dmg in mid range, if you look at pro Scouts they don't actually get that close to enemy. Even in your shortstop clips, you were in close range so often you would've done more dmg with stock. Aka it's niche of being better mid range weapon is just not that strong, doesn't help that it's reload is soo s l o w and shove is too weak. Imho, even though it's very ineffective I still gave it a shot and play with it from time to time. It's the only subclass qeapon Scout has, and if you use it with cleaver and wrap assassin you become mid range menace. But your loadout of milk/crit cola and atomizer also works but probably not in KOTH maps where I usually play 😅

Yeah also the upside it give is way too small compare to it downside like the clip is too small for how many damage it can do most of the time also being quite hard to land all 4 clean shot that give out just ok damage also faster firing rate is not helping most of the time because of the bullet spread so unless it a stationery target like sentry or huge target like Heavy you can't just quickly shoot all 4 bullet.

For the auto reload thing, you can shove while reloading... KINDA! Just hold left click at the same time as your secondary fire. There are still a few downsides, but you can't make me turn off auto reload in tf2.

Kinda mainly use it on defense when i get behind the pushing team I target a medic or a key pusher like heavy, most times im able to take em out in the flank or take chunks off there health.

Honestly if you played Overwatch 2 at some point there's a support hero called Zenyatta and he super kicks players a big distance away if they can make the push that strong then i genuinely would love to use the shortstop more because then i can watch silly situations happen where i push someone straight into the stratosphere or a sentry.

I was thinking about all of the changes I'd introduce to the game lately, and for Scout the only notes I had were: 1) Make a more new/casual user friendly playstyle possible 2) Make an actual info=oriented recon playstyle a thing so Scout actually scouts 3) Grant a defensive playstyle so he has more use in O/D missions Turns out, at least one of these things is already in the game! I still think this thing needs a buff reduce the pellet penalty to 50% instead of 60%. fix the spread pattern so it appears as a plus sign reduce it's ramp up to 125% instead of 150% increase it's falloff max damage to 75% instead of 52.8% retain the 100% damage per pellet bonus retain the accuracy bonus 15% damage vulnerability added This will significantly increase it's mid to long range utility, though also boost it's close range damage by about 4% close range shots go from 72 to 75. mid range goes to 60. long range goes to 45, assuming all pellets hit, at 9 per. It'd cement it as a mid to long range harassment tool, while still leaving it underperforming over stock at close range, and making it dangerous to engage at that range. The 15% vulnerability puts scout into 1 shot territory from a max rampup stock rocket

The real problem with the Shortstop is that its lack of burst damage allows the enemy too much time to return fire or retreat. You really need to work with your team to have enough damage to finish off enemies, and that also means you're ineffective in more situations. Also, not once did the shove help you enough to justify using it in all of the clips you've shown.

The shortstop doesn't actually do less damage... it is FAR MORE offensively capable than the scattergun, due to how the reloading works, , 1 second reload, and you can shoot 4 times, each shot has about 80-90% of the damage of a scattergun... Yes, each shot has slightly less damage, but the reload makes it so you don't ever have to stop shooting it, you are CONSTANTLY on the offensive, you never have to take a break to reload 1 shot at a time, per second, for 6 seconds (or what FEELS like 6 seconds, anyhow, takes fking forever...), you never have to seek cover to reload, which MORE than makes up for that 10-20% damage loss per shot, the DPS (damage per second) of the shortstop is actually HIGHER than the scattergun, because of that reloading mechanic. Combine that with the reduced damage fall-off, tighter spread, as well as the the shove mechanic when you right-click, and you've got yourself a weapon that is functionally superior to the scattergun, it is FAR more flexible and adaptable... You can shove enemies around at melee range, and you do flat out better dps are mid-to-long range... You simply have more options with the shortstop... You're not forced to get up close and personal. So i disagree with your assessment that the shortstop is a defensive weapon.

Really good video, I adore your intro animations and overall presentation! I've been using the shortstop over the past three days, I really enjoy using the scattergun/backscatter but now it feels like I somewhat prefer this mid ranged more harassment focused playstyle on scout, I think both have their own benefits. The Shortstop is a weapon I disregarded for ages especially after the reload nerf so it's been fun giving it an honest go, I really dislike the smaller clips of the soda popper & FaN so having 4 shots and a clip that reloads all in one go is a nice middle ground. I kinda miss the days when equiping the shortstop would give scout more healing, although the higher knockback to escape ain't bad either. During my time messing around with the shortstop so far I've found you can push people mid clip with auto reload on although you have to hold down right mouse button oppose to tapping it, it's extremely jank but i'm still happy to have it, despite it's benefits the shove as a whole is just jank overall.
