I have this same unit... just got it about 2 weeks ago. This thing does an amazing job at cleaning the records. Had some that were unplayable before, that now sound beautiful. One suggestion I have is that instead of loading the records with the motor on the tank, if you unplug the motor, and use the smaller screw, you can take the whole motor mount off and lay it on its side (it's very solid, so it stands on its own very nicely). This allows you to load the records on and off without fear of dropping anything back in the tank, and (for me, anyways) seems to be easier to load and unload this way. I also use the Vinyl Vac on them afterwards instead of air drying (this was part of my previous cleaning routine). This may be over-kill, but hey, it's working, so why change it, right? I use 2 spacers at the bottom (this keeps a good distance from the wall of the tub) and then just 1 spacer in between each record, and I am able to clean 8 at a time. Thanks again for taking the time to do this video. Glad to see I'm not the only one with one of these units!

I have done about 2400 LPs so far and I still save up a "to clean" pile so I can spend a rainy day(like we just had during the hurricane!) cleaning records! The greatest thing is playing them after the process(let them dry well before playing🤣) You will be amazed like I was! Over a year later in your video is the gift that keeps on giving. Picked this up just before Christmas. I've cleaned over 300 albums and simply astonished at what came off. It was a mix of new, record store purchases and garage sale finds. Your video was incredibly helpful and so very well done. I have the exact same unit and not one hiccup! I didn't have any photo flow so I just used distilled water and alcohol I was shocked at how much junk came off. I just had to use a touch more alcohol to get the surface tension of the water right to flow over the album perfectly. I did three sets of eight so 24 total and I was ready for a water change every time. Again, thanks for all the information you shared and have a great 2024.

Great video. You described the process in detail without wasting a lot of words. There are many DIY cleaning agent recipes out there your's is a common one known to be safe and effective. I have exactly the same unit but mine seems louder. I just use Tergikleen and distilled water in the tank. I also carefully spray a distilled water wash on the LP's and then dry with a lint free cotton cloth. There are many ways to clean records and if it works then it's the right one for you.

Super detailed, thorough walk through of your process - enjoyed this mucho! The Kodak solution is an interesting variation. I use the same outer sleeves, but insert the record spine first. Does the bottom/sealed method you use here fill more of the sleeve space? Some of my sleeves seem to have a decent amount of “slack”/empty room, so I’m wondering if I’m doing it wrong. 🧐

I don’t think you can do it wrong! You can do it differently! But the way that I do it they are very snug and perfect fit! Even if I use a gatefold closed it works fine too! The photo flow works perfect because it is to stop water spots on film so that’s why it works so well in this process!

I have been using a Clearaudio Smart Matrix since 2015 and sold it after I purchased a similar US unit albeit with knobs. It is noisy but I put it in the kitchen and put some music on. If anybody reading this, does not have one yet, buy one! I had records that were cleaned on the vacuum RCM several times and still a lot of crackles and pops, despite my own deep clean method. I cleaned each side three times, let it soak for 6 minutes and spread the fluid every few minutes, so total cleaning time about 36 minutes per album. The ultrasonic unit saves me a lot of time, I do 5 records in one go. And records that previously had a lot of noise, now sound like new, even a copy of Electric Ladyland from 1968 given to me by a friend sounded like purchased yesterday, incredible! My cleaning fluid consists of demineralized water, about 5 litres, 25ml Dr. Wack CW100 Super windscreen wiper concentrate and about 5ml dishwasher surfactant. Works like a charm. Some might shy away from dishwasher surfactant because not developed with cleaning vinyl in mind, well the same goes for Photoflow. I have been using this mixture for about 15 years with no ill effects to the vinyl.

I've read you can get about 5 runs of batch cleaning before the solution gets too dirty. I use a mix of 78% distilled water and 22% Everclear (seriously) and about 10 drops of Tergikleen surfactant. Rinse after cleaning with distilled water hand pump sprayer and into the drying rack. Excellent results.

It really is an impossible question to answer because if you have five really dirty records, it could pollute your solution! But you could do 30 to 50 really clean records and not dirty the solution! It’s really an “as needed” situation! Thanks for watching and hope this helps!

Nice job. I have essentially the same setup for cleaning my records including using the storage solution sleeves. With the hype stickers I peel them off the shrink wrap and stick them on the outer protective sleeve in approximately the same location the hype sticker was on the shrink. You do have to take your time removing the sticker, but I haven't lost or ruin one yet.

It depends on the hype sticker! Some are affixed so well that getting them off in one piece is futile! But some come off easily (the coated ones work best)and I affix them on the vinyl storage solutions outer sleeve like you! Otherwise if I see one, like the one on the DuaLipa album, I lightly tape on inside of sleeve as shown in my video! Thanks for the support and I appreciate your comments! I received my NEW Ultrasonic Record Cleaner by Vevor. The SAME unit you have! Boy! What a huge difference from my old crappy one. For one, it's much quieter than the knob version. (Stay away from that one!) Love the record holder that slides up and down. I've cleaned hundreds so far with no issues at all. Love it!

I use camera lens cleaner to clean my CD lens and also my astronomical telescope. Just because a product is made for one thing; doesn't mean it won't work for other things. Lemon juice is great for so many different things for instance.

Per your suggestion I watched this video. Very well done 👍. Now that you've cleaned many records, does this method clean off those pesky thumb and fingerprints? Are they actually gone from the vinyl? I don't see many in this condition but it's a stubborn issue and the Okki does not remove the ghost images of the prints.

It does a great job on fingerprints(the minuet amount of alcohol in the solution helps) I have had about 10 records that really needed a manual extra cleaning with a microfiber cloth! But generally one thirty minute cycle does the trick! Some say that is too long and also that alcohol does too but in my limited experience I find only positive results sonically! It is a must-have for garage sale/estate sale finds! Turns them into new records basically!

Hey Matt, just received mine last week and cleaned a few records. After watching a record turning, I noticed that the water on one side closest to the box that turns the records, the water wasnt looking, or moving the same way it did on the other side. I decided to put in more spacers so the record is more in the middle and it then looked good on both sides... I was a waiting to hear no sound from the record when putting it back on my turntable there was still popping etc. than I thought I would hear. It has definitely made a difference and am going to work on how long to keep them in... Good video, ty.👍

Definitely more records on. It creates more pressure and makes more cavitation which is the cleaning bubbles that come up and explode on the surface! It happens evenly across the entire bath! I certainly would recommend making a small stack of records before cleaning, which is what I do. I usually wait until I have seven or eight to clean and then I do it! Also, make sure that you use the same formula that I have come up with that I talk about on the video! The combination of those ingredients, I think is one of my parts of success! Some records are just scratched that’s just what it is but if it’s just junk in the grooves, it’ll come out! I generally run the cavitation for 30 minutes! Then I put them in the rack and let them dry! That’s where I get my best results! Thanks for watching

Good video, but no rinse? How do you go about cleaning the unit itself? I also use a separate thermometer as I've found the one on the Vevor itself to be unreliable... the water in mine will be 3 or 4 degrees warmer than what is indicated. Don't want to warp any records!

I make a pile and when I get to 7-8 I do one batch and then done! Cavitation crates heat and even when you set the temp it will rise some beyond the internal heater for sure! And no, I do not rinse! That’s what the photo flow is for! It sheets water off the record just like it does on photographic film which it was intended for! If you skip that step of putting Photo flow in the water, you would probably need to rinse! Otherwise, it’s pointless! To rinse the unit, I drain it, wipe it out with glass cleaner, rinse that out with water, and then refill the entire tank with the cleaning solution that I have outlined! How much % alcohol do you use? I have read that 70% is max for ultrasonic cleaning. Is that correct? And thanks for this video.

Actually, the most pure alcohol is the one that you should use and I think that’s 91% which is what I use! The amount that I use is probably a jigger or 1 1/2 ounces! It’s very little in a big tank like that, but it works wonders and coupled with the photo flo they work hand-in-hand in getting into the grooves and cleaning out years of cook! I hope that helps! It’s the best investment I’ve made in my record collection! I’ve probably done more than 3000 records by this time since I got it!

Definitely no release agent involved in pressing records. At least not at the plant I work at. Stampers are made with metals and they don’t bond with the pvc. The records are also hot coming off the press so they are easy to remove.

If they are really cruddy but otherwise NO! I let the machine do its magic! You might have to change the water a little more often BUT I feel the less physical touch on the record the less chance of scratches happening from moving dirt around! Thanks for your support!

Finally got my cleaner setup and running. My preferred solution is 78% distilled water 22% 190 proof Everclear alcohol About 10 drops of Tergikleen I also use a simple hand pump sprayer of distilled water to rinse off the solution then into the dryer rack. My old, fuzzy sounding Tammy Wynette 50yr old album sounds noticeable clear and much improved after cleaning. Everclear is relatively cheap from the liquor store.

You can use the ultrasonic machine on 45’s but you need an adapter for each one! Personally, I don’t do that with any 45s, but it can be done! As far as the vinyl storage solutions sleeves I know they make them but I only use the 12 inch dual pocket outer sleeves and rice-paper 3 mil inner sleeves! Thanks for watching!

I have a box where I put all of my new arrivals and used finds in! When I get to about 20 LPs/or 10 dirty I clean them in the ultrasonic cleaner! It’s a judgment call with how much you use the dirty solution! But if it gets even a little bit hazy, I would throw it out and start over! It’s a little alcohol, a little photo flow and a dollar for the water! I will try to find you a working link! The link went down because I put this video up long ago!

Five minutes is certainly not long enough! Especially since it’s turning constantly there Hass to be a certain amount of time within the tank! After many different tests, I’ve come up with that 30 minutes! I can assure you, it doesn’t damage the records whatsoever!

I use it as a primary deep clean because I don’t know who or what has miss handled records that I get used or record shows etc.! I basically do one deep clean and I’m done! It brings them back to being brand new And honestly probably never have to ultrasonic clean them again! I put them in a brand new clean sleeve and it’s like starting over! I wish you were close so I could show you how it’s done but that’s why I made the video lol thanks for the sub

Question for ya. What if I only have like 2-3 albums to clean? Still a 30 minute clean? Those single ultrasonic cleaners (humminguru) only take 5 minutes for a single record. That's why I'm wondering.

I put noisy or new records to the side until I have enough to do at least a couple of full batches! I don’t do one or two records at a time! I have no knowledge of hummingguru or anything like that! I just know that my method works!!!

Since the clear discs separating the LP’s don’t have O-rings to prevent the labels from getting wet, don’t they get wet? I can’t see how they couldn’t.

No o-rings and once you tighten them on the spindle the labels stay perfectly dry! It has never been an issue! I tend to keep the water level into the middle of most records dead wax too!

It comes with discs that protect the label! I put eight Records on at a time with a spacer, starting with an ending with and every has a spacer front and back! No solution ever gets on the label and I’ve done well over 1000 albums on the same unit!

I think that you're actually better stacking 7 records, single spacers. Given the higher pressure in between the closer spaced records it should increase the velocity of the fluid. Kinda like a Tesla turbine.

I have the same machine, but I use Tergitol TergiKleen, which is used by the Library of Congress to clean their records. I wash the record first with a light solution of about 2 Tblsp of white vinegar, a couple of drops Dawn dish soap and a quart of water in a spray bottle. I spray the record and scrub each side with either a soft scrub brush and/or a paint pad. I then rinse the record, dry the label and load it onto the spindle. I run mine at 30°C, for 20 minutes max. Once done I lift the unit up and lock it into place. I then use a spray bottle filled with distilled water and spray each side of the record on the spindle, take it off and pat it dry using a lint free cloth and set them into the record rack to dry completely. It works really well. The gunk in the bottom of my cleaner looks just like he shows here, except because I keep my records really clean and I've pre-scrubbed them I'm getting about half of that after cleaning about the same quantity he is doing. Clean records sound far better than dirty records and I've always been a clean freak! Love your sleeving methods!

The only problem I have is that Turgitol has been shown that it degrades vinyl! For that reason, the library of Congress has halted using it! I don’t know all this for a fact, but I’ve heard it from multiple sources in the VC! Thank you for watching the video and commenting!

@@primeanalogrecords I rinse and dry my records, so I highly doubt there is anything left to degrade the vinyl over time. That said there is at least one KZbin video that indicates Ultrasonic Cleaners may degrade vinyl. There are videos and numerous articles stating alcohol degrades vinyl. One thing is for certain, there is a lot of BS out there regarding records in general, as well as the cleaning of them. I think it important to not spread the BS and stick to telling what I have done and what has worked for me. I cannot say with any certainty that I'm getting better results using the Ultrasonic Cleaner over any other method I've come up with and that is a fact. It is however more convenient to do a quantity of records with this machine, although in the end it takes me longer to do them because I manually clean them prior to using the Ultrasonic Cleaner...yeah, maybe I am, as some around me like to say, anal!

@@alangross2277 well said! And that’s what and why I did the ultrasonic video by showing what I do and have gotten amazing results far beyond the old Discwasher days! BTW I have used Kodak Photo-Flo in my archival final film wash because it’s sheeting action practically leaves no residue! Been using it for more than 35 years with excellent results!

@@primeanalogrecords I have to say using the TergiKleen, the records look exactly the same as yours after raising the records out of the bath. I have even added a couple drops of Dawn to the tank, which also worked very well in conjunction with the TergiKleen. I've thought about skipping the rinse and dry, but most of the videos and articles I have read recommend the rinse with distilled water.

Are you sure that the isopropyl alcohol and Kodak photo flow doesn’t compromise the vinyl material? Seems counter intuitive to use a product for film photography on vinyl material.

What do you think film is made of? It’s just a thinner piece of plastic! One thing I did not make clear in my video is that I’m not going to be doing this over and over again! There’s no point in that! What I am doing is doing a one time deep clean of record albums that I don’t know what has happened to but I’m bringing them to absolutely factory fresh and I, with the way that I handle them, will probably never ultrasonic clean them again! Thirty minutes subjected to a hard plastic surface doesn’t compromise anything! If I did it 50 times they would probably be degradation but that’s not what we were talking about here! That link is now dead, but your video is the last one that I saw on this cleaner and I ordered it halfway through your video from the manufacturer for $189.99. I just got another model in from Amazon two days ago for $165.99, but it is the analog dial one that you turn a knob for both temp and timer and it is by the same manufacturer, Vevor. The motor isn't secure enough to the tank for me and there is no on-and-off switch on the motor, nor can I raise and lower my records on the bar that you are using. For $24.00 more, I think I will get more value in the new one that you have and get digital control as well. I never thought of using Photo flow for records before even though I have heard about it for cleaning records and knew about it a long, long time ago for photography and I'm also a photographer from the film days. I'm all digital now for my business, but I still own and shoot film from time to time, to relax and take my time and bring me back to my roots of where photography started. I use a Nikon F4. Thank you for making the video, your process is simple and to the point. I also have a VPI 16.5 and Project VCS (Both Vacuum Cleaners) that I can clean both sides of a wet record (Project VCS) on and I will vacuum the record and then put it into the basket.

I would stay away from the one that has a turn knob since another member of the VC, Christian over at CGC Vinyl guy, found his to be defective and would heat up too much! He said it back and got the one that I showed in the video! I’ve never had a problem with my love cleaned over 300 albums! Everything is included in the one that I got and I would suggest that you try to find one exactly like that! Yes I’m basically all digital now too and I have been for sometime! I switched over in 2000 but also shoot film from time to time! I use a Pentax 67 as well as my trusty F3! with all the way up the line with Nikon to an F6, but use it so infrequently that I got rid of it! Glad to see Photographers jumping on board, and it makes sense because we still love the manual /non-automatic ways of things!

I clean the tank with glass cleaner after I empty it! Then close the petcock and fill with tap water to rinse! Open the valve and dump that water! Close the valve and remix the original mixture of distilled water, 2 squirts of 91% alcohol and two capfuls of Kodak Photo-Flo!

@@amirshabazz1393 when I turn on the unit on the back and then push the on button on the front and that preheats the water! Once it gets to temperature, I believe the light goes off, but I’m not sure! I just stick my finger in and can feel a little bit of warmth and then I just start cleaning Records! The cavitation from the unit itself creates and heats the water as well, so unless you’re doing a large batch, it should be sufficient! Keep a check on the water temperature because it can get hot! Hope that helps

I've watched over 50 KZbin videos and cleaned some records in couple of days 30 or 40 times to find out how to make a satisfying Record come back to life. .... Step 1 - Wash the record with water and some alcohol. Step 2 - After getting most of the surface materials off the Record I then do cavitation. Step 3 - Rinse and wash record again. Step 4 - dry. ...... Cavitation for me is 1 album for about 6 minutes without any heating. About 1/2 way through I use a nice Shoe Polishing Brush (Boar Hair) and while the records spins I let the brush wipe off the record to help the Record rid itself of the dirt needing a tad more attention. RINSING is highly recommended after to get the Surfactant and any remain dirt off the record before drying. ..... Extra Benefits are the Water in the Cavitation machine can last much longer since you have cleaned the Records of the majority of the Big Dirt, fingerprints, etc off of the records so that your Water, chemicals, and surfactant last much longer... I'd say I can get about 30 Albums Cleaned in the same water before I notice any need to replace it. ..... THE RECORDS are much cleaner and if you time this right you can do about 10 records an hour. I've tried nearly 100 different ways, and this is the simplest and most impressive final results that are stunning.

If it works for you, perfect! I’m just letting people know the way that I have found the best way to clean and silent records for the least price, and the quickest way! I think you’ll find if you use my method. It has quite a bit of a merit!

Your method is pretty close to what I use - I don't futz with the Temp because it can easily cause problems. No. #2 - I agree that you need to have more space between records and after doing up to 5 and then reducing the records down to 1 with less time is really about the SAME as 3 or 4 for 30 minutes. TIME WISE each record gets about the same time..., I just happen to think 1 at a time is optimum. I use Alcohol in my Pre-wash, but I don't use it in the Cavitation process & so once again we are both using alcohol in the process at some point. One of the big differences is my RINSE which consist of Spraying the record with Water, and then running it through a manual Disc-Cleaner with brushes to get the Chemicals out of the grooves & helps to wash out the dirt and debris one last time. My POST was not to insult you, but to share someone who spent the time to observe how many many many people do things so that I could do it as good as they did and by virtue of watching many others benefit in doing it the best I can. Your Video is Great - I did yout way before I saw the video and I offering my opinion based on experience. Should you decide to include my method 'great'. I think you'll notice that after you won't think about cleaning that record again for a long time to come.... and frankly cleaning records is a DRAG, so doing it as well as I can hopefully means 'Never Doing it Again.' :) Peace - m.

@@Labor_Jones I didn’t take offense to your comment! I like hearing alternate ideas and think your idea about rinse is great! Although I don’t rinse, I do use a rinsing agent, which basically is photo-flo which really helps to sheet water off of the record! It actually is used for film and lives zero droplets or residue! For that reason, I use it and don’t rinse it! I let everything drip dry! I also agree with one and done idea about cleaning! I don’t believe you should be cleaning your records every time you play them or even every 20 to 40 times! I think that if you clean your records ultrasonically you’re pretty much done just as long as you store them properly! I appreciate your comments!

I think what you’re referring to is the plastic discs that are all together on the spool! If you watch the video, you’ll notice that each one is a spacer for each individual record!

Alcohol is a degreaser and heating (within reason) helps excites the molecules in water to make them do more cleaning action along with the ultrasonic cavitation! All I know is it works beautifully for my set up! Thanks for watching!

While a one-time solution using isopropyl alcohol probably won't damage a record, it's unnecessary if you're also using a surfactant and some good quality, alcohol-free cleaning solution, like Spin Clean or Audio Intelligent. The IPA is redundant.

Also, I have a large enough house that I don’t have it in my room so I don’t have a problem with it running while I’m listening to music! Now look at how many people have watched this video, and have gotten great value out of it because I know so many have gone my way instead of the Degritter way! Kind of seems like you’re trying to sell those! I’m not selling anything except for information around all these ridiculously overpriced under producing ultrasonic cleaners! If you do a Google search you'll see they all probably come out of the same factory in China. Vevor, Crework, Happybuy, and about half a dozen others all look exactly the same (even different models), only the label on the unit is different. Some have no labels. Prices for the same models can differ by as much as $50-400. Same model, same specs, different price.

I have been researching it, just concerned about the noise as my wife and I live in a new build apartment complex (neighbors) I have been using the Vinyl Vac for almost 4 years which is been doing a good job but looking for something better and seeing these have come down in price I think it's time to upgrade! @@primeanalogrecords OH by the way i'm a huge Zepp Head! I have a Zeppelin 2 1st Pressing Rob Ludwig Hot mix that I really want to bring back to life! Really think this thing could do the job, No skips or scratches, just lots of snap crackle and pop. for my mix I use Distilled water, Ilford Ilfotol Non Ionic Wetting Agent, and 99.99% lab grade isopropyl Alcohol.
