Sub compacts are good for ppl that can only have one pistol, it works for carry and nightstand. If you can get more than one, then a micro for carry and a compact/full size for the nightstand is great.

Exactly. Which back when I was a poor, I bought the compact 1.0 (2.0 subcompact equivalent). It was a best of both worlds gun since I could only afford one.

Subcompacts shoot nicer than micros. They’re heavier and tend to be softer in felt recoil, thus being more accurate with DoubleTap shots. Plus they can hold full sized mags too. I love the subcompacts for all these reasons mentioned.

Great video! I’d say you’re the best “table top” reviewer I’ve watched; clear/well-enunciated voice, excellent video/audio and no “tactic Luik” bravado. Atta boy award conferred. Now, I found this vid searching for a shield+ vs Glock 48 review. Given new SA 15 rd mags for the 48 I thought it would make a nice comparison.

The advantage of the compact is easier to shoot well and is rock solid in the hand the S&W was one of the first modern striker fired guns to really study the hand and take the grip up a notch from previous guns. I have a Gen 1 M&P9c that I made mine by putting an Apex trigger kit in it and got a fluff and buff job from a great gun smith. Love that gun. I also have an M&P Compact. I like the Shield but the others really feel great in hand and shoot very comfortably.

That subcompact is notoriously hard to find new. After a trigger swap for an apex it’s absolutely a joy to shoot. I prefer the grip angle over my Glock and the pic rail is a nice feature.

Great review, Hammer! I have both. The SC was called the 9c, back in the 1.0 version, and is a 12+1. as others have noted. Was my first firearm. I don't find the trigger troublesome, at all, although I do like the Plus's trigger more, and can carry the 9c well, IWB, kydex, 4 o'clock, even on my medium frame...a little tougher in our southern summers, but that's why I have the Shield. Had the original Shield, but traded it for the Plus, upon release, for the capacity. Love both of these, and will never let either of them go. And,, as you have shown in the video, I have 17-rounders (4) with sleeves, in addition to 12-rounders (5), for range days with the 9c....and, for carry/backup purposes... and for the Zombie arrival, too....even at night, when the Zombies most like to be about.🤣👾

I have the M&P 2.0c and love it. I saw the PC Shield plus with the 4" barrel and well I had to have it too. I already have the first Shield and like it too but the added capacity of the plus and longer sight radius should make it a great shooter and still just as easy to conceal as the original Shield. I cant wait for it to get here.

Nice review! I have the Shield plus, and a 4” Compact and recently got a great deal on the Subcompact. I love the subcompact and so glad I bought it. It shoot so well and it feels like it was made for my hand. Midwest Gunworks makes sleeves which I ordered but don’t use as much as i thought I would. At the range I just shoot the larger mags in the SC without the sleeves since I end rotating between guns.

Two great guns, almost ended up getting a used subcompact, but ended up getting the Shield and later trading it in for the Shield Plus. But i still seem to like the Subcompact for the thickness and how it fits my hand, and those few extra .3 inches may slightly improve accuracy. Also like the fact that on the subcompact you can add the larger mags from the other M&P lineup .

Excellent video as usual! I love your straight forward and “get to the point” narration on your videos. While I’m a Glock guy (and Colt), I absolutely love the M&P 2.0 series of pistols. I love that subcompact model in this video and for everything you said about it when compared to the “Plus” gun. I think the grip is better, the weight of the gun is better and the hinged trigger, I actually like. For AIWB carry, it’s all about the length of the grip, not so much the slide. So the grips on both depicted guns are the same, but the slightly longer slide of the subcompact helps the gun to stay “flat” against ones stomach. Whereas shorter slides usually make guns “too heavy” in appendix carry, thus bending out forward from the body and printing more. ….that’s for me and my body build anyway. Finally, I love the magazine interchangeability with the subcompact and full size M&P’s. If I want to carry thinner, I’ll carry my Glock 43, 43x or 48. I think the M&P subcompact is S&W’s direct competition to a gun slightly larger than a Glock 26, but smaller than a 19. I had to edit this. I’ll say that their subcompact is a direct descendant in size comparison to their old 3rd Gen 6904/6906 alloy models of yesteryear. love it the 2.0 subcompact!

Thanks for doing this one. I think you misstated the Subcompact stock magazine capacities. They're 12 rounders. 12+1 capacity. It may only be stamped to 11, but they hold 12. Both the flat and pinkie extender stock mags (unless you're in one of the states with limits). So flat mag to flat mag it's 12 (subcompact) vs 10 (shield plus).

'Thorough, interesting comparison. I believe the stats, but the difference in width between the Subcompact and Shield Plus, when lined up side-by-side, grip-to-grip, *looks* greater than 1/10" to me, for both the slides and grips. It can make a noticeable difference if inside the waistband. It's time for S&W to give all their pistols the better flat-faced trigger (and real/useful forward slide serrations).

Bought the Performance Center 4 inch plus The Subcompact has a few pluses but the trigger on the Plus is AWESOME! Carrying 17 rounds would be nice but I'd have to wonder how much it would print in concealed carry. Also I expect that the plus will eventually get a larger capacity magazine. The picatinny rail is nice for sure by their are nice options for flashlight and laser attachments for the Plus trigger.

overall, a good job, thank you. I wish you had pointed out two more things; the subcompact can take a wide variety of accessories on its front rail (a short rail, but it has a rail), the shield plus no, at this point in time I don't think there are any accessories like those for the SP. the second thing I would have liked to hear about is how they shot, which had more recoil impulse, muzzle flip, which seemed more accurate or easier to shoot, etc. maybe a follow up video?

I have a Walther PPS and it holds 7 rounds but its slim and at the time I couldnt find any shields. Great trigger on that one. I also got a 1.0 and put an Apex trigger and its great. Its a little heavy but you get 12+1 and its not much harder to conceal but it is wider. Its great at shooting though as you have almost no recoil for its size. My girlfriend also shot it and she was able to shoot well even though she has long fingernails and weak hands.

Only slightly larger than the subcompact and 15 rounds with a flush fit or 17 with a sleeve and a full size magazine. The Shield + is a bit small for my hands, but not as tiny as a P365. I'll tell you guys a secret... my wife's Shield 9 EZ is a nice carry pistol as far as size (slim). Yeah, it only holds 9, but it shoots like a bigger gun. To be fair to the plus, with a easy and simple magguts installation you can have 13 rounds in your flush magazine and 15 rounds in your extended. If you were compare the sizes of each gun with 15 rounds at that point there would be a pretty clear winner. Granted the subcompact can still take a full size 17 round magazine and that’s definitely a cool bonus, although I just don’t find it super practical and I don’t think it outweighs the many benefits of the shield plus. The subcompact would definitely be better for someone with very large hands though. I have a friend who owns one for that exact reason and that’s totally fair enough.

Between these two, which one has the easiest slide manipulation? I inspected the Shield Plus about a month ago and found it difficult to rack, then shot it this past weekend and found that it was at least manageable, though not necessarily quite as easy as the Equalizer or Sig P365 models (then again, I have been working on some hand strength exercises). I've heard some say the M2.0 SC is difficult to rack, and others have said it isn't too bad and is easier than the Plus. I thoroughly enjoyed the Shield Plus when I shot it, but the slide difficulty is the one major con for me. The 15+1 M2.0 Compact was easy enough to manipulate and I plan to shoot it on my next range visit, but I haven't found the little brother either for sale or for rental to even inspect, let alone shoot. I'm strongly interested in it, though, and my enjoyment of the Plus is only further motivating me to keep looking for one to get a good look at. Thank you for doing this comparison.

I don't know if you know what you are talking about. The standard mag for the SC is 12 rounds. This makes it the same as the old Model 6906. Basically, the same barrel length and standard capacity. Magazine compatibility with the larger model, the 59 series. In fact, Mec-Gar makes a 17-round magazine for the 59 series, so the comparison is complete. Even the weight of the 6906 was within about an ounce of the SC. This makes it a better choice, since I like to have at least two guns in the house that have magazine compatibility. The Shield Plus is a good gun, but the SC has it beat.

Forget the Shield plus, buy the subcompact as an every day carry gun and if you ever decide to change EDC to something else, the compact can be converted to nightstand gun with big mag and lights/lazers... no brainer.

Ya I agree. If I want a tiny 9 I'll go with a tiny 9 like a Hellcat or a 365 or a GX4. The M&P 9 SC is better overall for sure and the Shield Plus is just a little too big to replace it I think.

Very nicely done videos, commentary and camera angles. Side note on expectations for nightcstand gun. This might be against the grain, but I think a low capacity gun is just fine for that purpose. In that situation, it'll be decided in one or two shots. The likelihood of needing more I think is when you're out and about.

Subcompact with a flat face trigger would be nice. Also keep the regular sights rather than suppressor sights like they are doing now. Or just put the safety from the subcompact onto the shield. The shields safety seems too small
@LKaramazov

I agree, every time I look get ready to buy the shield plus, I look at that safety and say “nah”. I’d buy the subcompact but I’m not crazy about smiths three dot sights.I bought a M&P .45 and those things were to small and they got dingy and were just hard to see.

I have the gen 5 26 and the plus... same footprint almost but the sheild grip let's me have a better grip. Same capacity with flush mag. Plus one with extended grip. 12 (glock 26) vs 13 (sheild). I carry the sheild but you can make the 26 work especially if you have other 9mm glocks. I shoot them about the same...the trigger change made them very similar. The sheild is easier to carry, and I could draw easier with the flush mag on the sheild vs the glock

If u put a 15 or 17 round clip in the subcompact it pretty much defeats the whole purpose though of the subcompact being a CCW rope because those clips turn the subcompact into a compact for full size frame at that point.
