Thanks for the critique, Jared. You made some valid points. I honestly expected much worse.

I like the format of the vidéo but as almost 80% of the traffic on a website is now from mobile device, you should include a section where you look at the website on a mobile device to see if it is as easy as the computer version to navigate

The average person looking at a website to hire a photographer has no idea what a tear sheet is.
@XirpzyАй бұрын
Yeah I had no idea. Make it simple for average people to understand and navigate. I dont think its that difficult to get right. Also dont show the skills you are lacking. Cant write and layout text properly? Then keep it short or get someone to help you.
@andrewehyangАй бұрын
Its based on the targeted audience though. I feel like a news editor or someone looking to hire a photojournalist should know what a tear sheet is.
@ddraissАй бұрын
@@andrewehyangThe website he was critiquing was not geared towards photojournalism. The welcome page literally states "engaged, getting together with friends, having an event, throwing a shindig, ......"

@randalalansmith9883Ай бұрын
When you use your photos as wallpaper, it tells me that your photos are like elevator music, versus music to listen to. If you want to include negative and positive space, and throw some text into a shadow, then that's demonstrating art direction. It's a serving-suggestion. But if you have to reduce the contrast of the image so you can read the text overlay, then just skip the photo as background. Save your photos for a gallery viewer, and only use B-roll for graphic design, like the header.

I like the idea that clearly successful photographers are watching Jared Polin along with me and trying to find ways to get better skills and better gear

Honestly pisses me off that videos like these don’t get more views. Information like this that can enhance your work and brand is so much more valuable than gear. Hopefully the masses will come around one day

A little bummed that mine didn't make it since it's different from the others - it's not about trying to sell my services, it's about photos and stories. But so far there's some really good feedback.

unpopular opinion: i would much prefer Jared critiquing photos and getting into the aperture setting and coaching the person rather than critiquing the design and function of a website because he has no legit credentials in web design or ux design and functionality
@kylegoodman5196Ай бұрын
Most of these websites are designed with places like Squarespace, Adobe Portfolio, etc. He doesn't need to know web design or UX design to critique those. Very few photographers have experience in the kind of web and ux design skills to design a modern website from scratch.
