I only learned about Bruce Forsyth having been the original presenter of You Bet recently when I came across an old listing of the show from 1988 and it mentioned Bruce as the presenter. Not only didn't I know he presented it but I never knew it was being shown in the late 80s, I always thought it started around 1993-ish. If you asked most people who presented You Bet they will say Matthew Kelly.

This is a rare treat to see how You Bet started with the late Sir Bruce Forsyth back in 1988. What a shame Sir Bruce later regretted presenting You Bet! Your KZbin channel, Mister Doc, is the gift that keeps on giving.

How did he end up regretting hosting _You Bet?_
@MatthewHadley-f9z23 күн бұрын
@@antster1983 Sir Bruce said in his 2001 autobiography You Bet was not the show for him as the show did not allow him to get in amongst the people like he did on The Generation Game.

@MatthewHadley-f9z So he felt he was miscast for a show like this. Fair enough. At least he returned to the BBC after recording the third series to present a new gameshow for them, _Takeover Bid,_ and a revival of _The Generation Game._

Great to see this rarity. A different theme that would get revamped later on and Bruce would (re)introduce his legendary catchphrase and walk-on.

The original theme and incidental music by Alan Lisk. Replaced by a new theme and music by Jonathan Sorrell from Series 2 onwards and used until the end of Darren Day's first series. Alan Lisk composed a much more memorable theme tune a few years later for the sitcom _Men Behaving Badly._

Bruce Forsyth hosts the very first episode of the classic game show in with a panel of celebrities would bet on the ability of members of the public to achieve unlikely challenges and stunts. It's you bet for the very first time back in 1988 with co host Ellis Ward and a panel of celebrities are Richard Digance, Kate Robbins and Dickie Davies.

So _You Bet!_ made its home at Shepperton Studios, at least for the first and third Brucie series (the second was made at Limehouse - themselves former premises of LWT) and the entire Matthew Kelly run. The first Darren Day series was filmed at Pinewood and the second at the now demolished London Arena. The current iteration with the former Ministry of Mayhem was made at the new Shinfield Studios complex just south of Reading.

@misterdocuk24 күн бұрын
I liked it. Although wasn’t a fan of the sob stories and the bunch of breaks. You Bet winners won because they had talent, not because they had a good sob story and also some talent: also I don’t think we needed that many breaks
@MatthewHadley-f9z24 күн бұрын
@@misterdocuk That is why current ITV programmes are falling behind time because of increased ad breaks. I did watch a bit of the You Bet reboot, but I did become slightly underwhelmed by it.
