With childhood memories, it can get very difficult to figure out the truth. Because of a child's brain not being fully developed, one of its potential reactions to being told about an event it can't remember is to fabricate a memory of it. The child isn't aware that it's a fabrication and will genuinely believe it was real and can even grow up with the same kind of long-term effects as if it happened. That's why, as Dan said in the clip, it's so difficult to investigate child molestation cases. If someone coaches them in the right ways, a genuine false memory will be fabricated of the event and the child will genuinely believe the memory is real. That all said, on a lie detector you'll still have a lying reaction if your brain is drawing upon those false memories. The way I see it, there are two possibilities. Either someone DID molest them and they were coached to accuse that man and so their brain adjusted the memory to go along with that, or nobody molested them and someone out of spite coached them to say that he did it and their brain fabricated the memory from nothing. Both of those possibilities are quite easily made to happen in a child's mind because it hasn't fully developed, so it's impossible to say which one for sure happened.

@@polarBEAR819 No. The brain stores fabrications in a different way than it stores genuine memories, and accessing one or the other yields different reactions from the body, and that's what a lie detector typically picks up on. In essence, if they are asked about an event, it measures whether the body has a reaction from the brain accessing fabrications or genuine memories. A person can genuinely believe what their brain has fabricated and still come up as lying on the test because the body reacts differently based on what the brain did to call upon information of the event. This is why there are people who sometimes seem legitimately surprised when they fail a lie detector. They aren't always consciously aware of the fact what they said was untrue.

I was accused of some horrific stuff. And before that happened to me I saw people accused as all guilty. It forever changed my perspective on things. It absolutely tormented me for years. Lost a lot of friends. Luckily I had some really good friends and family who KNOW me so well. That and they got the supposed victim and he never said it. I was shocked as all hell, i honestly thought he did it based on his mannerisms and how pulled back he was acting but even i was like wtf!!! What put the nail in the coffin for me was that the accusers either failed the test or were to drunk to take the test, plus liars always double down after being exposed of lying. I reckon that the young woman was molested by one of her family members but being so young the trauma has made her mind blank out who it was, and when this uncle was charged with rape she’s thought that it had to be him, and she’s convinced herself of it. I feel bad for her and hopefully she gets to the truth for justice to be served. I’m also glad this man was cleared.
