I own a 2012 Prius V. I removed the passenger front seat and the rear seats. I built out a short platform from the front dash to the battery pack (about 6 ft.) I then installed a 6 in foam mattress. Behind the driver seat, I put in a 12 volt fridge. Works great. 👍

Im thinking about buying own of these and reloacting the battery so that the whole cargo area can be made flat with the second row floor. I think it would be possible to pivot the battery to run longitudinal with the car. Tucked against the back passenger side door. you may want to consider that.

@@nomadman1196 Isn't that very bad for the battery? The hybrid battery is not meant to be a 24/7 generator.

Put your feet towards the front seats and head at the rear Hatchback. Its great for tall people like me. I camp with myself and two kids and you can leave the engine running and only spend maybe 3 bucks per night. This car is ideal for camping and nomad lifestyles. Its a real hidden gem!!!!!

It runs the AC/Heat without the engine running perfectly fine. The engine will kick on temporarily every so often to recharge the battery as necessary. There is no need to waste fuel. Enjoy.

The best part about Priuses is the climate control and it save gas … you can leave it on the whole night for just less than gallon….

You are hilarious, i’m not in the market for a Prius and I live thousands of miles away from you😂🤣😂🤣 but I want one now. However, I cannot believe that you did not mention the fact that this car is a generator on wheels. You can live in a Prius all year round. You can use the climate control all night long and depending on the weather it will provide air conditioning or heat- the engine will turn on occasionally to charge up the battery when necessary while you sleep peacefully. You can plug in a portable refrigerator, your hot plate, use your Insta pot, some people have small microwaves, the list goes on. There are rear hatch tents that provide more room for rainy days. The big luxury cars that you spoke about, that you could set up a tent with, do not have the automatic recharging battery, and you probably cannot even stretch out in it. The Prius is a tiny camper.

There are quite a number of Prius Van lifers on KZbin. One gal travels and lives in a regular 2006 Prius (not the V) with a dog all over the country and makes it work. I want a V for the extra room for sure and the climate control is a great feature for camping as it runs off the battery without using the gas. I’m sold on the V!

Thank you! I been shopping both and this helped me decide on the V. Almost 50 empty nester and traveling for a couple years between kids and around nation/countrys. Lots of research and this seems like the perfect one for solo camping. Also, big selling point is it is temperature controlled when sleeping and cheap. No buying AC and heaters.

I have fitted full size dressers in my Prius V, I put a hitch on it (it can haul up to 2000 lbs and supports a tongue weight of 500 lbs !) And I can haul a 5 x 9 U-Haul trailer! For only 24$ a day or de 4 x 8 ft motorcycle trailer for 16$ a day! Any U-Haul has them and bad-a-bum! You have a "pick up" on the go, I love my Prius V !

Hey Chad! Thanks for checking out the Prius v for sleeping! Remember that you can scoot those front seats almost up to the dash! YES, you will need to put a "filler" there between the back of the "scooted forward" front seats and the folded (almost) flat rear seats, including some pillows/cushions or such to level it the way you'd like, but by moving the front seats forward there is quite a bit more room! I actually will be traveling with a 4"+ single bunk bed mattress and will put my head at the front, since it seems it is still going to be at an incline and it is better (for me, at least as I'm 5' 3") to have my head comfy with pillows up a bit higher than vice versa- head at the hatchback. Also, I am putting a blackout curtain on a rod resting on the two slightly open front windows for privacy. The back rear windows will have those "sock" pull over sunshades with black trash bags under them for black out. I haven't figured out the best way to cover the hatchback window or the rear side windows, but I'm thinking of going to the auto store or Amazon and getting some of that temporary vinyl static total black out window film. I would cut it out before, and then put it on when I'm preparing to sleep. My only concern is: Could it damage the regular window film that's already on the windows permanently? Well...I will see! Leaving in two days!!

I did a vacation with my prius. West Texas speed limit 80 mph. 07, gen 2, Prius-can do 80 mph 5 hours (refuel) all day long @35 mpg. Over 400 miles every 5 hours you can put some interstate in your back pocket. I was able to go from Cave Creek AZ to Longview Texas ~24 hours. 1K miles with a small family is not easy to do the passengers want to stop if you stop you're not going anywhere. 3 people one driving the others watching video or on computer. Why do I share this? I had a geo metro. Wonder gas mileage get on the interstate it's not ready for it. It's unable to go 65 MPH on any level. The Prius will take 80 MPH like it's loving every minute of it. Years later I removed rear seats and passenger seat, got a crib mattress and frame and took to the road . I lived out of the car for 2 weeks. Showered free at planet fitness.

Hello! Great video! I droped a longer note into your gmail inbox on wanting to purchase a PRIUS oct-2024 ... Here I would like to say that I lived several years in my AUDI a6 2001 sedan v6 twin turbo... worked on it the entire time! and the following sleeping arrangement procedures may work for everyone when setting up any car as sleeper... I had tons of luggage ice box tools with me all the time so space management was very important... front passenger seat all the way forward I would pack it's foot area then seat belt in to chair any luggage securely so then tons of space behind this seat is created ... then that area behind is was also built up so that it would extend the back seat froward leaning platform where my head would go for sleep and from here I can reach dash board stereo car heater... I would leave my shoes in the drivers side foot area turn around in that chair facing back on seat and between two front chairs slip into audi back area on paltform leaned down for sleep the now forward leaned back seat hold my torso and I am putting my legs into (trunk) boot of hatchback car ... next to my legs packed with stuff luggage and up to back of 2nd the narrow back seat of audi that is not folded forward at all but left as is and has more stuff packed on it and may even get a luggage seat belted in to it and this seat's foot area is also packed spare shoes or whatever you have with you ice box drinks... the whole set up much better than loosing $100/day at hotels... you don't get out of the car at all, fog, rain, night, ... of course much more prefered to own your land and start building one or more tiny houses but we are not there yet in life are we... so sad... 55 already... with this car then you can go anywhere park anywhere and people never suspect that a person is resting several hours in car avoiding hotel costs... the same should work for prius, that has much better fuel economy!!! www.flickr.com/photos/tiborgbalogh/albums/72177720302618312/ -tibor

There is another trick the V can do, if you scoot the rear seat all the way back and remove both (front & rear) passenger side head rests, you can lay the front seat all the way back and create even more end-to-end space. I also like the rear window better. I don't like the split rear window in the Prius.

I have 2015 prius V !! I'm telling you guys , this car is a winner !! Not to mention superior Japanese technology !! Those guys realy know how to build reliable car !!! I got this car 3 years ago , it has 70xxx miles on it !! All I did is changed oil , air filters , brake job and tires !! I did trow Styrofoam coolar , sleeping bag , blanket and pillow in trunk , grabbed my duffel bag with my clothes, my dog and hit the road !!! I was traveling solid for almost 2 years !!! Performance of this car is outstanding !! In 2 years I drove close to 140.000 miles , all over North, Central and South America !! I did spend $3500 at one point to replace main battery cell !! I knew it's coming so I was prepared , and not surprised !! Other than that I did not spend a single dollar to fix this car !! Of course I did spend money for tires , oil changes and etcetera !! But it's called maintenance !! In 2 years there was no break down of any kind to keep me away from my journey and my schedule !!! All this trip I've had maybe 10 nights I spent in hotel !! I slept in my prius , it's extremely comfortable because of climate control, a/c working like new , heater is greate to , I was never cold or hot !! At one point I did install roof rack for one more extra sper tire , and some tools !! I did realized that only one sper tire is not good enough !! The only thing about this car this is not a muscle car it's need a few more seconds to reach 60 !! But I saved a lit on great MPG !!! Buy it , you won't be disappointed !!!

Spent over 6 weeks traveling from LA to Maine in my 2010 Prius, at 5'10 ,50+ person slept fine. Would like a little bit more room, so trying to decide between a '16 or '17 Prius v and '17 Rav4 hybrid. Prius v still get better mpg, but Rav4 better clearance [I'm not an off roader] so availability and price will prob settle the matter for me.
