“It’s not the guy you see the next day” hits hard. The amount of times I’ve got on the sesh then locked myself away for days until I was comfortable being out in the open again. Sober for two years now hope to keep it that way never felt so good in my life now

Been listening to this podcast every day for the last two weeks. The lads I’m working with went to the pub after work today and asked me if I wanted to go. For the first time EVER in my life I said no! I feel a bit conflicted because part of me wishes I went and had a couple of points and a laugh but I know it’s time for me to change. So thanks.

26:58 I was about to say weightlifting really helped me with anxiety and stress... but also eliminating coffee made me 100x more calmer. I would take caffeine religiously since I was a teen so I think that def messes up your chemical/hormones... even though it's perfectly legal. Anxiety and coffee are a no go

Loved Dan since the vine days and reading the comments it seems split between people if Dan is on something on this episode. Although i dont think he is on cocaine however i do think he is extremely sensitive to caffeine that mimics some cocaine tells i.e the sniffs, the uhms when his guest was talking and the breaths half way through his sentances. I think with an adhd mind his concentration kept going to the meeting he has after. This made the episode feel rushed and that showed in his guest who upped his pace to finish sentances as the episode progressed. From a complete place of love and wanting nothing but the absolute best for Dan and his family my advice would be to make sure these conversations take place when there is nothing planned for after and no caffeine before the talk, and lose the mobile off the table during filming. It genuinely hurts to see that so many are assuming its gear without considering what else it could be.

Just some constructive criticism coming from a fellow addict Dan First of all, great work, I can really see how much this means to you and the energy and passion you put into this podcast and activities surrounding it. However a couple of pointers. I think AT TIMES the podcast comes across a bit too 2023, ADHD, Mental Health, OCD, Anxiety etc As addicts in recovery we recognise that the world is a fucking hard place and it affects everyone, only we decided to numb these feeling by dabbling in addictive substances, whilst being more predisposed to addiction prior. I think perhaps focusing on people’s own experiences instead of trying to (understandably) put everything in a nice neat package and label it ‘X’. Also, the podcast NEEDS to be more diverse if you want to take this to another level. Whilst I understand your comment about ‘illegal immigrants’ to the Pastor wasn’t meant with malice or bigotry, it did have a level of ignorance attached to it that adds a level of discredit to what you are trying to achieve. You have had 17 guests on, 16 have been White and 15 have been White males. Again, addiction isn’t a neatly packaged product, it affects each person and demographic differently. Addiction from a White male’s perspective will be different from a South Asian male’s. You must look to widen your audience and get guests on with different lives experiences. This is coming from a 30 year old White male. Anyway, all the best mate. Good luck. Ben x

@stephenjones529 Жыл бұрын
@Jamie Stewart Answer to your question Jamie, I'm not entirely sure, what I do know is I've witnessed people have to inject arteries in their groin because their veins have collapsed due to years of daily heroin use, I've also known a close friend die from cirrhosis of the liver due to chronic alcohol abuse, do I think these fresh faced clowns doing podcasts had 1 too many lines of Charlie on a weekend and felt sorry for themselves, absolutely, do I class them as addicts?, absolutely not, but I suppose it's all relative to your own background/experiences
@daisymcquade7847 Жыл бұрын
With mentality like that if addicts who wasn’t that bad thought the same they’d be like the people you know. I’ve lost many from alcohol but I still know I’m an addict because you cannot stop. Once you start you will not stop ever and it creeps back it taking everything from you. I haven’t lost everything yet but I know where I’ll lead due to loosing very close people to liver failure. Such a sad comment to see they aren’t fresh faced clowns they’ve looked shit and felt suicidal as have I but sobriety makes you look fresh faced and happy. This comment is genuinely the problem.
@stephenjones529 Жыл бұрын
@daisymcquade7847 you're missing my point daisy, I'm not referring to addicts, I'm referring to muppets who can't handle a few lines of coke on a weekend and start doing vlogs on recovery, I lost a brother to addiction, there's a difference
