This is not the fault of capitalism. This is not the fault of socialism. This is the fault (and arguably inevitable result) of human predilections. Barring some sort of genuinely massive calamity, there is no staving this off. There is no reversal. Also possibly could be used for people to stay anonymous in videos without having to show no human face or wear a mask. But I do agree that most use cases are nefarious. I'm not sure what can really be done about it though. Governments could ban the creation and use and probably should, but people are going to develop the software to do this somewhere. It's not something that takes insane financial resources or a vast team of people. I guess the other path to take could be to severely restrict GPU/CPU technology to the public. Phone audio is not that great, old people (who are usually the target of all scams) don't hear as well anyway, And those same older people are usually the grandparents who aren't around the person as much to know exactly what their grandchild sounds like. AI may theoretically help convince more people that the thing is real, but those people should know that this scam is an old one and not trust it regardless of AI existing.
