Japanese music tends to use extended chords a lot more than western music and western music which uses extended chords typically doesnt feature distorted guitar. @shredd57057 ай бұрын
Yeah I mean he certainly did a run without camera, to see roughly what to play. You'd have to memorize the chords before you can improvise like this, and to memorize them you need to hear it. So why not also play over it. Doesn't detract from the value of it
@bleuorb7 ай бұрын
It is an improvisation. If you're familiar with the chord progression and have a decent knowledge of scales/modes/etc you'd be able to improvise and ofc, with years of experience you'd be able to go as far as 32nd notes cleanly like guthrie. Not sure if this is a one-take video but it isn't unlikely that it's improvised
@shredd57057 ай бұрын
@@bleuorb Certainly, but people seem to think Guthrie just pulled this from his ass on first listen, without any preparation or familiriazing himself with the music that's going to come. That's not how improvisation works, you'd have to know the chords first. Especially at these speeds would be better to know them by heart. Or it's a familiar progression he has played before or something very similar (which is my guess) and thus has some general ideas on what would work over it
@UnknownString887 ай бұрын
@@shredd5705 Honestly I'm confident he didn't have that much time to prepare, his vocabulary is out of this world. Of course he knows the progression beforehand and maybe played around with it and listened to it first, but overrall he mostly did pull that out of thin air. He's at that level, this is why he's considered one of the greatest.
