The worst part about it is that there was absolutely NOTHING developmentally wrong with Genie prior to her horrific abuse. Her eyesight was permanently damaged due to her only looking at the walls of her room in a short and specific angle at which she was confined. Her speech and cognitive abilities were of course stunted and damaged due to lack of any sort of verbal interaction, physical contact, affection, environmental enrichment like TV, books, pictures, or even a window to look out of. She was never hugged nor kissed, she was never consoled when she cried. She actually learned as a baby that her crying would be ignored or punished so she quit crying due to hunger, sickness, pain, or loneliness before she was even a toddler. She was actually screamed at and hit with fists and objects when she made any kind of noise so the only physical contact she ever had with another human being was physical assault. Even after her rescue she's terrified of and repulsed by physical touch. She was tied to a potty chair so long all of her bones were deformed and her muscles were malformed and atrophied. She was never fed solid foods when they did deign to feed her so she can't even chew and swallow solid food, and she constantly drools even as an adult. Absolute cruelty and the waste of what kind of a person she could have been and the life she could have had, had she not been subjected to the worst abuse and neglect any human being could suffer. Her father deserved to suffer the same horrible fate, but it never could have been worse than what he did to his own daughter who he was supposed to love, care for, and protect. He was a monster and a coward. Even after her rescue Genie was mistreated, the research subject by many people and institutions who studied language and cognitive development. Soon after turning 18, she returned to live with her mother, who decided after a few months that she could not adequately care for her. At her mother's request, authorities moved Genie into the first of what would become a series of institutions and foster homes for disabled adults. The people running these facilities isolated her from almost everyone she knew and subjected her to extreme physical and emotional abuse. Any new language and communication skills she had learned quickly deteriorated and she withdrew back into herself. After her mother's passing in 2003 she is now living in a care facility in LA where she seems to be happy and lives a simple life. Her entire life has been a tragedy, she deserved so much more.

She can't read, she can barely see, she doesn't understand or appreciate music, she can barely swallow, she's in constant pain due to her skeletal deformations... SO no. She's not OK. Far from it. But she did survive, and I don't think most people could have survived the life that she did. She was denied the ability to socialize with her mother and brother by their father so when she was brought into care, she could barely speak or understand English besides words like no. I believe a lady that worked as a sort of doctor did her best to teach her but words never really stuck so she never did learn how to speak well. She was forced to stay completely silent. Her father wanted to keep the house completely silent at all times. With the constant abuse and being forced to stay silent along with total isolation from everyone she became unable to speak at all. During the ages she was kept in forced isolation she was deprived of the linguistic skills and socialism children need to learn how to speak and learn whatever language they are taught. So when she was discovered she was unable to talk or even understand English. With a lot of hard work and dedication she was finally starting to put words together and be comfortable making all the noise she wanted. That is until she turned 18. She was cycled through different foster care facilities where she endured more extreme physical and emotional abuse. This had such an effect that when she wast tested on her linguistic skills, she lost everything she learned through those long years of hard work and dedication. And after all these years she can only string a few words together. And unfortunately that’s as far as she’ll be able to get. Professionals don’t think she will be able to progress any further than that. Her story is heartbreaking on so many levels.

Her posture is due to all the years she spent sitting in the chair with her hands restrained. Genie was place in that isolated room when the father believed she was "slow" and out of shame he decided to "take care" of her his own wau, this also included sa. A health program was put into action, in which many medical individuals tried to help her by teaching her with daily life activities. She would well with female staff and thus a female Dr. Took her under her wing to continue with the training. Sadly the facility stopped receiving the funding with the studies in her case. Then Genie ended up at an adult care facility. All the advancement done in her situation went down the drain. She wasn't strapped to a toilet, she was strapped to a tiny potty training chair. Even after she grew to be too big for it. This potty chair was in a dark room, where the lights were always kept off. She was also beaten and kept in solitude, even as a very young child. No parental bonding at the time when it is necessaryfor natural human growth, not even human contact in general, except to be beaten. So this poor girl was strapped to a tiny plastic chair, in pitch darkness, ALL the time. That is why she walks that way, because her body was forced into that position for years. I've watched a short documentary about this girl. It's really sad.

I remember studying her in linguistics class. In more detail: Jeenie was also locked in the basement or closet (I forgot which) til she was a teen. She was never spoken to and was punished for making even the slightest sound. Her father abused her the most but the mother wasn’t much better. She also abused Jeenie but was let off a lot easier than the father. Because of Jeenie’s debilitating condition, she could barely walk and couldn’t form any sentences. Despite years of speech therapy, the most complex sentence she achieved was: “I like logs”. As the story says, she resides in an adult care center and uses mostly sign language to communicate.

Why do the mothers always get a free pass? She was unable to defend her? How so, she’s an adult, she could have unchained her (like she ended up doing) and took her to the police or social services, intentionally, as well as reported it when it started happening. The mother is just as evil, allowing it to continue because she’s married to the guy who probably brings in the money, and reporting/losing him will result in a less comfortable life for the mother, without some effort from her part to replace those resources. It’s completely selfish and evil too, yet they always get a free pass on saying they couldn’t stop him or control him etc. are they adult women or mentally disabled children?

If he doesn't want to be judged by the law, then let him be judged by the Almighty.
@rudra622 ай бұрын
So, why didn't the Almighty step in and stop this from happening to her when she was a baby? God could have, and took no action, except to promise to punish the perpetrator infinitely later. If I was aware of someone abusing a child, and I closed the door, saying, "Go ahead and do that. You have free will. I'll punish you for it later." Society would call me, an ordinary person, a monster. I, not being especially heroic or a protector of children, would do something to protect that child - anything from using my words to get them to stop, taking direct action to actively stop this wrong action to calling the police. Why do you hold God to a lower standard than you hold average people?

Let's not downplay the mother. Her husband went to work everyday for 8 hours or more a day, and she did nothing while her child suffered for years. You can claim that she was afraid of her husband, but her child's welfare is more important than hers.
@rudra622 ай бұрын
Yes. The husband's work day allowed for plenty of time to summon help and/or get out with other children she had - or ensure that he was arrested and kept in jail where they were safe. She did nothing. That makes her an accomplice.
