The “billions of pounds” required for Labour’s plans to decarbonise the economy refers to business investment, the party said after Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer sparred over leaked comments from a shadow minister.
At the final head-to-head leaders’ debate on Wednesday, Rishi Sunak pointed to a media report that the shadow chief secretary to the treasury, Darren Jones, had said Labour’s net-zero plans would cost “hundreds of billions”, but Labour said this was referring to private sector investment.
‘Not Zero’ author Ross Clark joins Talk’s Julia-Hartley-Brewer to discuss this further.

Power cuts will be common place in the uk under a Labour government. That’s the only way to spread the energy around when there’s not enough. People will go without. Hence government controlled energy meters, which are being fitted to willing peoples houses who haven’t yet twigged. The meter can be switched off remotely and power directed to more worthy places like schools, colleges, hospitals, businesses etc. The futures dim the futures Labour. Vote Reform.

Net Zero is prohibitively costly, impractical and totally unnecessary. The carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels have the net beneficial effects of increased agricultural yields, reduced winter heating costs, fewer deaths from hypothermia and postponement of the next glacial maximum. These benefits are especially significant in cold areas such as the UK. Net Zero is economically destructive delusional insanity. It should be abandoned forthwith and the most economical energy, transportation and agricultural resources available should be utilised. The massive misappropriation of taxpayers money into uneconomical and unreliable renewable energy projects is economic vandalism. More people are dying from hypothermia because they cannot afford heating due to soaring energy costs.

Ahhh why cut the clip when the discussion around the car industry starts? I work in the UK car industry and have done for over 10 years now, since graduating. I love it and am very passionate about it. In the last year I've worked for 3 companies and all of them one by one have made us redundant. Either because of cost cuts ("market slow down") or because they've gone bust. The state of affairs in our industry is SO bad and no one is talking about it. Soon most of the industry professionals will have no choice but to look at options abroad - Poland, Slovakia, Romania... Even places like India, Thailand and Vietnam. The entire UK industry is systematically being deconstructed and shipped abroad. And I can only wonder why? Are we too expensive because of our energy prices, salaries or some other combination of factors? Is it linked to net zero and the desire to offshore our manufacturing industries? Please can we have more discussion on this topic. Government is claiming that the UK economy is growing faster than any othwr G7 country.... Doesn't look like it from where I'm sat. Thanks.
