*Throwing Drake out there behind a shotty offensive line and a developing WR corp would be a MASSIVE mistake. Once you put in a rookie franchise player you cannot take them out. Historically speaking it doesn’t work out for the psyche of the player.*

I don't think Maye should start week 1. Let him sit, study, learn and at the earliest, let him play around week 6 or so. Buy I do believe this team will be a hell of a lot better than what the crap that's been thrown against the wall.
@LaFlameG6 ай бұрын
I would’ve started him week 1 if they had a good oline
@ironPatriots486 ай бұрын
@LaFlameG yeah, but I think they they're leaning from the Mac Jones disaster, and trying to make sure he's not thrown to the wolf's den year one. Maye is definitely showing he's our guy.
@edzachary86575 ай бұрын
And as bad as they were last year they had a bunch of one score losses.
@NewEnglandInSeattle5 ай бұрын
I totally agree. We don't know what the offensive line will be like. If it's a dumpster fire, I wouldn't want Maye out there and have his body and confidence shattered.
@SCarter027675 ай бұрын
No, definitely start Brisset for a couple weeks... See how your team actually performs vs an opponent. Do not want this kid getting "shell shocked" after you spend the #3 pick on him. As is, Pats are projected to a 3/4 win season, 7 at best. Most likely drafting #1 next year according to 'experts'. Why rush and risk it. Kraft isn't letting Mayo go after 1 year
@Dman49015 ай бұрын
Have him sit the entire year!!!! Dont rush him

I 1000% agree! I've been saying this since that stupid trade. Meyers has become a great receiver in the league!
@LaFlameG6 ай бұрын
I mean he was injured and we still signed and it showed week 1 towards the end of the season he was playing better just the QB and Oline was trash and sorry as fuck
@Wayward775 ай бұрын
They didn’t TRADE jakobi, they let him sign with Oakland and signed juju instead. Pretty much the same contract too.
@Mooseman3275 ай бұрын
Yup. That was extremely dumb. Wasn't a trade though. They let Jakobi go and then signed JuJu for about the same money. BB was a terrible judge of offensive talent.

Having been a Patriots fan since the early 1970's I appreciate the optimism of this guy, but sadly, I think he's wrong. Honestly, I think it's safe to assume the Patriots could win a couple more games than last year, but I really don't think it'll be more than 6 or 7 total. I think Jacoby Brissett will be the starting QB for the entire season, which is why the Patriots signed him for 8 million bucks... a good deal in my opinion. I hope we don't see Drake Maye this year unless something happens to Jacoby Brissett. I think we need to be patient, because I don't want another Mac Jones situation.

Mahomes took a seat for a whole season to Alex Smith to watch and learn. The same should be done for Drake Maye
@JonStark1176 ай бұрын
*Maye has ALL the talent in the world…but is still incredibly raw and inexperienced. This offense still isn’t ready to throw a rookie QB out to the wolves. Let the offense work out its kinks for at least the first 6 weeks to find its footing. They still don’t have a starting left tackle or know who will be starting at the WR 1/2 positions. Drake Maye would be more valuable on the sideline with a headset and play sheet. Next offseason they can add the final pieces to the puzzle on this offense and finally set Drake Maye loose.*

Javon Baker is going to be the best pick of the 2024 draft for the Patriots. Maye won’t start week 1 either. No chance.
@Mooseman3275 ай бұрын
Baker has physical talent but a LOT to learn. He's not disciplined enough in his route-running. He could get away with that in college but not with these pro DBs. He has a lot to clean up. Too many steps and fakes doing nothing.

@Mooseman3275 ай бұрын
You cannot put Maye out there unless this offensive line gets fixed. You just can't. That's why Brissett is there. As a vet, he'll figure out how not to get killed. Only if the line can be upgraded to about average should Maye be given a shot. They already ruined Mac Jones. The can't afford to ruin this guy. Too much depends on his being healthy and not gun-shy.
@Brother_hood356 ай бұрын

The biggest reason to start Coby is to test the offensive line. If they can't protect him, they won't protect Maye.

if the oline can protect him well enough; let him play. He doesnt really have anybody he can 'learn' from. As long as he doesnt get killed back there- nothing like real snaps to get used to the speed of the NFL game.

Hmmm, a bit rosey on this take I think. Rookie qb + rookie coach typically does not equal a playoff team. It has happened, but it's not likely. On paper (which is pretty much all we have) New England is arguably the lowest rated team from a talent and depth perspective. I am a Pats fan and hope to see improvement but I'm not sure we will see that this year.
