I was on a date and the guy asked me if I'd ever dated a white guy [red flag no. 1]. Once I answered, he said "I need time to process the fact you've been with a white man. I don't know if I can deal with that".....what is wrong with people?

As a black guy I somewhat understand why. It's weird. We feel like you've done some freaky weird stuff that you'd never do for us. Like idk all kindz of degrading stuff like pretending to be a slave ect. Just treating him better over all ect It's a lot of stuff. I've seen this stuff too many times to say that it doesn't have any truth to it.

If LA and Hollywood is where most of TV and movies are produced this is how they get to brainwash and manipulation into play. Put more and more people of with this mindframe the more often people see this on TV over and over and over then they start to believe that that's a norm and what everyone believes eventually it convinces the masses that this is how you have to think. They've been doing it for hundreds to thousands of years by manipulating what people see read and eventually start believing as true. So yes they are doing it on purpose. We're all human beings and we fall in love and care for one another no matter what race you are that is what we supposed to be. The powers-that-be don't want that they want to separate us and fighting amongst each other so we can't see who's doing the the b s, the evil and who's messing up our world and our reality because we are too busy fighting amongst each other.

“I sometimes feel like I betrayed my own race.” What a silly statement. That’s very, VERY, defeatist and very dangerous mindset. I see where that mindset is coming from, it’s very “us vs. them” in every aspect of today’s society. But we really need to stop putting politics, and race into our relationships. Not in the sense that interracial relationships shouldn’t happen, they should! That’s beautiful! But in the sense that we all want to be seen as equal to each other, how can we do that if we stay in our camps for every little thing?!

You won’t understand it unless you’re black. Black people, in ALL corners of the world(including our own) have been made to feel undesirable, less than, fetishized by every other race in the world(including, sometimes, our own), so for many people, it feels like you’re abandoning your own race to go for people who innately look down on you, and in that way, it feels to them like a betrayal. It’s like, many black people feel like the only people who will lift them up and treat them as human are their own, so to go for someone who isn’t black is basically saying you’re taking status over love. Now, I don’t agree with this at all, but I completely understand the feeling people have towards this, especially people who live in more racist corners of the world

2:48 - I think I might try and put it into words, because I've felt that. It's a moment where you're pouring your heart out to, or at, someone. Maybe you just need to vent. At a moment where your emotions are front and centre and right at the surface of your interaction, the other person takes this very human feeling you have and reduces it to a racial stereotype/trope. It can feel disrespectful and like you haven't been listened to, which is frustrating when you've had a lot to say. Even more so, when they tell you all they heard from you the whole time is "angry black man/woman".

If interracial couples work then they have to let go of some if their own hatred and prejudices. They no longer have an excuse. If you grow in an environment that tells you its us vs them and then you see an interracial couple it just completely shatters your reality. Rather then admit they're wrong they just say "you betrayed us" its tribalism at its finest. Human beings despite all our technology we're still the same as we were at the beginning.

Two things I learned today. One, that Preach’s wife is white or close to it (Aba is petty as hell 🤣) and two: this is another example of how people still let others dictate what they should feel. These kids on the panel talking about they let down their race or don’t have a place to belong….hang with people who embrace love regardless of race and people who are good people. It’s only hard if you make it hard. Even if you date who people want you to, they still got something to say….so as preach always says, “Do you boo boo.”

This interrracial dating "issue" is such a non-issue; people focus on shit that really doesn't matter imo. For example, I've recently gotten into a relationship. I'm a black man, she's a white woman. And she's amazing. She's pretty much everything I need in a partner. I have Asperger's, so it's VERY hard for me to find someone that truly understands and appreciates me for being myself. Hell, my parents have had a tough time with doing that much until recently. And it's even harder for me to be myself around others, even family. But from the moment I met her, I was blown away. The more that I was myself, the more receptive she was to it. That has NEVER happened before. I've known her for a couple months, but our connection already feels over a year old. So I feel, pardon my French, really fucking lucky to have met her. But because she is white, I'm very apprehensive about introducing her to my family. It's nothing I was planning on doing right now just because our relationship is still very new, but I'm hoping this becomes a long-term thing. And when it does, that will be something I have to face. My sister got married last year to another woman, and there were pockets of our family that she didn't tell, and for good reason. So I'm now in the same situation. It seems really fucked up that I feel I have to hide/make ambiguous my relationship with someone, just because of the color of her skin. I'll either get shit for "betraying my race", or I'll be told that "I've made it" because I'm dating a white woman and she'll be fetishized. Yuck. It is a lose-lose situation. But I'll tell them this; if I'm "betraying my race", then my race can kick rocks. Because I am myself well before I am some black male statistic.

Sadly a lot of people are too insecure to look beyond physical appearance and materialistic things. You’ll get insecure guys that say they love a girl’s personality but only talk to her or put effort to her only cause she looks good or you’ll get some women who only want a guy cause of financial benefits or clout. It’s fucked up and many people don’t understand the more important aspects of dating and relationships.

Yeah man, that is tough sometimes. It especially doesn't help if you parents aren't on the best of terms with a lot of their family either, as it's easy to interpret things wrong or for them to use it against you. I do get the impression that my aunt is racist against me because of some stuff she said or implied in court that was very demonstrably untrue, but I don't know for sure if she said that because of my color or if she said that because she hates my dad and just wants to hurt him, it's probably both if I'm being honest with myself. But yeah, growing up in many ways being seen as a second class citizen by a lot of either side of my family wasn't a good experience.

I could never imagine limiting myself to certain races or ethnicities - I’m more attractive to someone’s character more than anything else. My parents are also interracial (white dad and brown/black mom) and Puerto Rico to this day has issues with colorism so I can only imagine any remarks that were made to them when they first started dating almost 40 years ago. I only know of the few things my mom has told me over the years and that was bad enough to hear.

Similar here. My mom was VERY fair skinned Italian and my bio-father was very dark skinned Puerto Rican. He didn't claim me because I wasn't dark enough. Throughout elementary I was told to "go back to Mexico" from my classmates. It wasn't until high school that an African American family moved to the district, and they had to leave because someone put a burning cross in their yard.

yeah its pretty crazy people don't seem to realize that "I only date [enter colour] women/men" is kinda twisted racism in its own way. Yet they feel like dating someone being another colour than their is the racist thing...

I'm Puerto Rican as well and haven't heard of anyone being racist there except for maybe the senior citizens. It all comes down to personal experience. I just don't think PR as a whole is racist or colorist. We know we come in all shades and we're proud of that.

I think being of another race became a "cool" thing in the early 2000s, probably because of pop culture (J Lo, Beyonce, Lucy Liu etc) and interracial dating was seen as kind of "hip". Then I think 2015 is when all this "cultural appropriation" thing started to go mainstream and how everything is overanalyzed. I personally think that "cultural appropriation" has worsen racial tensions and is targeted at really irrelevant "issues". It's not an issue to me to see a black girl or a white girl wear a Chinese inspired dress. I feel like most people's lives are too perfect and they just want something to complain and be upset about so they can post it on social media and feel like they're somehow important. But it's really just adding fuel to the fire.

@@wolfking4556 I think it's because everything is taken to extremes there. Rather than appreciate different cultures and acknowledge where they are getting their inspiration from, they mockingly wear say a native american headdress as a halloween outfit. A lot of people forget the "oppression" aspect of appropriation. I think there are some legitimate issues with taking Native American religious symbols out of context for profit. But most of the stuff labeled appropriation is just normal exchange that happens when groups interact.

I don't know, I've never had this problem. I am mixed, caucasian and El Salvadorian. But I'm dating a African American and I haven't gotten any weird looks or jokes that I can remember, I actually remember people making remarks that they're jealous that we have such a loving relationship. Because we openly snuggle and show affection in school which I find rare to see people doing the same thing. Although I do live in a mostly latino and African American community I think, as there are alot of Caucasians at my school or the other ones I've been to

People should be able to date who they wish without backlash, although, I’ll be honest and say, I rarely meet someone who dates interracially, regardless of race, who hasn’t got something negative to say about the women/men of their own racial group. There always seems to be a “reason” for why they’re dating interracially. “I find black women to be XYZ”, “I prefer white men because Asian men are XYZ.” Which then makes it harder for those of us who have dated interracially simply because we liked who we were with.

You are correct, that is the case most of the time. It is never as simple as "date who you want". However, if you are the one that is pushed aside by the opposite sex of your race in favor of others, you have no voice or platform period. Because if you do, you are then validating the reasons (from their perspective) why the opposite sex of your own race doesn't like/date you to begin with. Further, despite what so many women say, men cannot voice their concerns without being ridiculed, emasculated, or have it used against them and this topic falls into that category from the male perspective much more so than the women's.

Never thought about our potential kids as "can you imagine our mixed babies?", if anything, it was more like "what names do you like? what if our child had your beautiful hair?" etc. What we would probably struggle with most is our families, especially mine.

My dad would always take note when an interracial couple passed by. Like a casual observation. He says it’s cuz in high school, it would be super rare and talked about. It is so crazy to me because I never notice it, it doesn’t even register. I like to think it’s a sign things are progressing into acceptance with the next generation.
