Re: Apple Commercial I have several friends that were in this shoot (all real professional musicians) but what you might not realize is that it’s not an uncommon practice for the director of the commercial to have people switch instruments for the video shoot because they think someone looks more like they play a certain instrument. In this particular video, a few of the violinists aren’t actually violinists. There are music consultants on set that work to make it look as real as possible, from how the group is setup to how the instruments are held. The bassoonist, however, is a real bassoonist and he is truly an amazing musician.

Yeah I noticed! Usually the subtitles don't appear till a few days later, so it's nice to get them at the same time as the video is uploaded!

6:06 there's this ad that comes every day around meal time. It deals with the opposite of this issue depicted by ........ KETCHUP! In the end after taking the product man successfully plops a dollop of ketchup happily 😭😭😭😭😭😭

The breaking of the bow was cataclysmic, it's what brought me here. You guys reacted, but then went quickly to the next thing- I don't think it hurt you as much as you portrayed. Don't you care about your bow?

I'm not even a musician, but I gasped in horror when the woman broke the bow.

8:02 it looks like she is actually playing but they probebly cut up the recording to fit the ad and absolutely fucked the pacing and now it looks wrong :/

just pointing out, the harp player is positioned that way strictly because of the camera. Her face needs to be visible to the audience, not to the conductor. That's the only reason. :)

Video idea: Play a game and the loser will be the actor of the most sacrilegious commercial Content of the sacrilegious commercial: eg. Make a commercial featuring the app "Simply Violin" that makes someone with 0 violin skills breaks the world record of the fastest violinist playing Canon in D/ Flight of the Bumblebee with a bow and an umbrella in stock image postures, but judges in American's Got Talent still yawn because he is playing a classical piece/not using a million-dollar electric guitar

You guys remind me of my husband when we are watching movies together. He is a communications engineer and whenever anything comes up on screen that has to do with his specialty he starts making critical comments: oh, that’s impossible because… they got that all wrong it should really be like this… and on and on. And I’m trying to suspend my disbelief and enjoy the moment but he’s making it really difficult. I actually got a kick out of all of those commercials. High marks for humor and creativity. The bow being snapped was definitely shocking… but if I had a cold coming on I think I would still try the product. It’s always fun to see commercials from different countries, a poor man’s world tour. You would think it would not be so difficult to find actresses and actors who know how to at least hold a violin and bow and move the bow over the strings. A surprising number of people have had at least a year or two of Suzuki lessons or played in middle school and high school orchestras. But looked at from another perspective I guess the awkwardness shows that even the most basic elements of playing the violin are not easy.

I've never been involved in filming commercials, but how hard can it possibly be to cast an attractive and photogenic person who actually plays an instrument?!

I remember when one of my teachers showed us one of those inspirational commercials. It had a deaf violinist, but so far, everything was fine…until the climax…where…she…started to play canon in D…while her hair goes all over the place…and her body twists and turns more than a freaking rollercoaster

I had my twitter tab on and switched on it for a sec and played this video. I legit thought that I got a sprite ad (I'm a Filipino hehe) and when I switched back to skip it, turns out it's actually the very first ad they're reacting to AHAHAHAHA

That guy in the first (Sprite) commercial was so bad that the teacher decided to see him everyday. The 3 other guys who were "good" can only see her once a week.

I remember when I 1st saw the sprite ad. I must say while the fake playing is terrible the concept of the ad was pretty funny. For those who didn't understand what exactly happened in the 1st ad. Basically the dude played the worst while everyone was trying to impress the teacher with their skills. So the teacher told everyone but that dude that they were pretty good and needed to come only once a week for class while that dude who drank the sprite needed to have classes with her everyday because he was so bad.
