Great video. I agreed with pretty much everything you said. I do think you spent too much time talking about how you power the trains. The real reason to electrify rail is because it provides a better service than diesel, which is already so much better for the environment than cars that that isn't much of a factor. Electric trains are faster and accelerate faster, neither of which is too much of a concern for US passenger rail until many other improvements are made, which is why I don't think it's worth spending so much time on. I think you could've spent more time talking about the effective time savings of sleeper trains, how much more frequency for amtrack trains would help, and where effective investments could be made.

Great video! at 20:20 that reminded me of a system many communites in bangladesh r using, an interconnected solar grid type of thing. also important to note that often amtrak trains get stuck alot bc of #capitalism (basically amtrak leases alot of their trackage from freight companies like norfolk southern etc. and alot of times they do not give them right of way and make trains like. 5 hrs late sometimes (ok mb a bit of an exageration) bc they had to let them pass. to combat this and to get a special selection of secret lines u can ride the freights instead /j (more on the topic of local/ rural or filling the gap between metro areas and the rural areas transport: however in a more less hellish future i think those lines r so repourposeful, and even just connecting passenger and freight lines. ik for my area in specific there is so many unused or lightly used freight lines that could easly be made into passenger lines (if you arent counting logistics like money for like stations and the signals but fuck capitalism so i wont and like rail yard avalibilty (?? tbh idk the specifics of how passenger line maintence and like storage of trains works idk if that is even an insurmountable issue but i think its probably easy to overcome. source- straight out my ass) and just. sooo much trackage through small towns- like i live in a suburb and just 2 train tracks in my area can take to albany, port jervis and probably pennsylania by extension, far west nj, and imagine many more places, and i could see the potential of possibly unfrequent service on these lines being incredibly useful esp. in a solarpunk furture w/o the time constraints and "effinciency" required of capitalism. anyway i just autismed so hard over that, and im also withdrawling from zoloft so tell me if anything im saying isnt making sence😭

Yeah, if we actually build new lines for passenger rail it'd be incredible. So often Amtrak has to pull off to let a multiple mile long freight train pass. I might look into that Bangladesh system you mentioned, sounds cool!
