Hi again! I wanted to mention something to help with the algorithm a bit. I clicked on this video because I thought it was about money in general, but after realizing it's about money's impact on schools, I stopped watching, because this topic, though genuinely important, does not interest me enough to watch a 40 minute video. I'm sure others have done the same. The problem here is that although your video will get more clicks it will hurt watch time, and that ultimately does much more harm than good in the algorithm, and decreases how much youtube will recommend the video. Better to have a title that will get fewer clicks but the people who click it will be interested in that topic, and will watch for longer. I'm definitely not good at figuring this algorithm stuff but just wanted to share what little I know in regards to this. I really liked your other two videos, though!

I love this framing of hope as a type of intelligence. (Or perhaps a type of wisdom?) Hope is a really important topic! There's also a video called Hope by the youtuber Anark which I think is quite good.

I wish I had even half your talent for speaking off the cuff so fluently and articulately! Would make my life as a youtuber MUCH easier. I'm also an ex-teacher... actually I only got as far as finishing teacher's college, but the three months of classroom experience was enough. I won't even begin to get into the reasons why I decided to exit that life path, but basically I saw that in order to "succeed" as a teacher I would have to become a version of myself I didn't want to be, and it would obliterate the reasons I became a teacher to begin with. Good video. Felt cathartic to revisit that old wound.

Also it had been a dream of mine for years and I put all my hopes for changing the world into it (naive, sure) so for that to all crash and burn so quickly felt like the world was ending. I literally had a sun exploding apocalypse nightmare at the end of it. But that is long behind me now, and I've created a new world I much prefer.

Okay, banger, it's a good reasoning throughout, especially regarding the management of emotions that is imposed onto ourselves. nothing to say, also I like mise-en-scene (I'm partially french I have the right to use this word.) But (Yeah the dreaded "but" I do make a few argument, but it's also because there's not a lot to say about the vid, you are on point about everything in my opinion, the issues I'm pointing are mostly outside of the video) I think the main problem lies in the fact that peoples on the left (Which I'm part of) are mostly proposing a new model of masculinity (which is valid) but nobody apply this model when it comes to discussing with "boys". In essence, we have everything good in theory, and most left wing peoples I see on the internet do not seem to understand (in my opinion) that we don't need to re-explain what is our stand on masculinity, the problem is that we, are not progressives in our own way, do not apply these principles, you should not address the "boys" but rather, the left itself, progressives, not to tell them to be less inclusive, but more inclusive... and coherent In other words, the left, the cultural left, (which I know is vague, but I'm grossly referring to peoples who mostly speak about these issues online) still use a mostly right-wing rhetoric when it come to take down the arguments of the cultural right (again grossly undefined, but most peoples get the point, I hope) - We want to take down a form of toxic masculinity that put physical force as the main attribute of manhood, but one the other hand we redefine masculinity as "provide and protect" men are not supposed to protect others, they're not somekind of warrior class, it's even quite a patriarchal notion in my opinion. - We want men to not create a subculture of theirs own, yet we ask for a left wing Joe Rogan. Guys don't need a good MALE role model, they need a GOOD role model, the problem? Most leftist role model, and again I'm sorry to shoot at my own team, most of the left wing figures, are condescending, sassy, arrogant and unemphatic, this is not a gender issue, this not a masculinity issue. - We ask men to not fit into a gender stereotype, yet it's mostly leftist who I've seen making fun of virgin guys, shaming insecure guys as if bullying them would make them latch onto our causes. - We want gender essentialization to stop when it come to women, but I've seen my fair share of "kill all men", it's never kill all rapists, or we attack men regardless of what they've done as individuals, and I think it hurt us in the longrun. Ironically the way the left treat these guys is similar to the way inkcels treat women, we want a part of the young guys to adhere to our values, yet we do not really have anything to offer them. "OH why does Stacy goes over to Chad" = "OH why does the lads goes over to Trump" "We really need women to change so I can bang them" = "We really need men to change so they can vote for us" "Women must have been brainwashed by Feminism!!!" = "Men must have been brainwashed by the Red Pill!!!" "If only they realize how nice I am" = "If only they realize how inclusive we are" And so on, and so on, I think the reason (some) men left the Left is the same reason women left the Right, it's as simple as that. In a similar fashion the right uphold contradictions in theirs treatments of women and theirs societal proposal toward them that frankly alienate them for obvious reasons. Our problem is a problem of coherency, we do not need masculine representation, we need to stop bullying awkward autistic retards. We do not apply the principles we advocate for, and lecturing peoples will only get you the peoples who agree with you already on that subject. I do think we should talk about the loneliness crisis (which is not a male loneliness crisis as it also impact a lot women, in the same way that men, I've been part of them, can be impacted by sexual violence, that we traditionally think of being a women only problem.) Anyway, cool video, you earned a subscriber, also love your "The Monster that is Social Media" video, it's good shit!

At this point I refuse to engage with the opposing side for more anything else other than pure entertainment. Attempting constructive discussion is a futile effort when your definition of truth is so wildly different. I tried for years, but at some point it just becomes draining.

Honestly, I'm right there with you on this. I talk a lot about the "Paradox of tolerance", like, the idea of "Not tolerating intolerance" within reason. And, especially online, with how anonymity empowers trolls, I say right on with disengaging, IF you can tell that the "Person" on the other side is really playing a character, or parroting points they don't really understand. I made a community post earlier essentially saying the same. "Fuck the trolls". Especially when you can tell they're being dishonest, or uncharitable.

I don't know what type of entertainment you mean, but I had a friend recently say something similar. They found my politics deplorable, so they kept trying to cut contact, but didn't confront me about it or say anything, just kind of disappear. Turns out, they decided that some of the ideas I had an content I was working on was so cool that they liked the entertainment value more than they disliked me as a person. This went on for weeks, even after I had poured my heart and soul into creative projects that I thought we were in together. People do live in different truths now, and it's destructive, but there's always a person underneath.

Sociology and social psychology are not the same , there is content that overlaps sometimes, but the two are different, they are not interchangeable. Also, using Psychology Today as a source? You can do better, I know you can. There’s way better options out there that can be used as sources. Especially because the source you used out the gate had a spelling mistake in the ‘key points’ section of all places. Try to use sources that are peer-reviewed. It might take longer, but it would be more professional and accurate. Also Dunbar’s Number isn’t about community size in general, it’s about the maximum number of individuals one can maintain a social connection with and keep track of. The theory claims 150 is the max one individual can handle. Also Dunbar’s Number has been challenged multiple times. Not sure it’s the most accurate theory today. Made the video become a little less serious. Good video though, I would recommend getting a teleprompter or a stand for your iPad, scenes like 5:50 become very uncomfortable looking.

DAMN I am getting my ass kicked about this teleprompter thing. Thanks for saying the video was good, and for having high expectations for me. But, right now I'm just a tired teacher trying to talk about things I want people to hear more about. I'm a little (a lot, I just feel bad saying it) broke right now, so I've been holding off on getting a teleprompter. And, in Denver, setting up an extra stand gets me in trouble with the city. It's a long story involving me, a park, and police. TLDR, you have to get permission from the city if you're gonna have anything more than a point-and-shoot on a tripod. And I'm already pushing that rule a lot with my current rig 😭 My recording style is kind of very public, and off-the-cuff right now. Get-in-get-out sort of stuff. D-do you think I should start a Patreon or something? I'm asking you legitimately. Actually, I might just make a poll. But everyone wants me to get a teleprompter, but, again, I work in public schools. It's taken years to get the gear I have as is. I've always assumed nobody would ever contribute, and felt that start a Patreon would be conceited.

I know its easier to read off tablet but if you are looking for improvements maybe find a way to use that on a tripod or stand near the camera so you can read the script while looking at the camera. You are really good at sounding like you aren't reading a script but just need to hide the eye/head motion. Great video tho
@TheQuietPartisLoud
@TheQuietPartisLoud 6 күн бұрын
Yeeaahhh. I've been fighting a bit with scripting versus doing things freestyle. It's a few confounding things. First, I'm saving for a wider, but still fast lens. Right now I'm using my fastest lens at 1.4, but it's a whole 50mm, so I have to be annoyingly far from my rig. Then there's the problem of getting a teleprompter setup. I know there are ones that are essentially just a mirror for a tablet, but they're still expensive. I'm thinking my next video will probably be script-free. The notable thing is that I do this entirely for fun. I make not a cent off of any of this, so to keep my little hobby in check, I try to keep it from taking up too much of my own money. The tablet is actually one I found from a pile of ones sent to be recycled, I fixed it up, and started using it for this. You're right though, I find my own glancing really distracting in this vid 😭
@brandonmtb3767
@brandonmtb3767 5 күн бұрын
@@TheQuietPartisLoud That's super relatable. It takes so much time and money for hobbies like video making and if you want good quality it gets so expensive. honestly maybe you can find a cheaper way to make the mirror thing work instead of buying a marked up one maybe make something at home if possible idk. I'll be honest i put this on my second monitor and mostly listened while playing Astroneer but the start I looked over seeing that you sounded like you weren't reading a script but i saw you glancing but then was like eh that's prob something I would do in your shoes. Another thing to consider if you are going for that documentary style feel is to always stand up or at least face the camera like in the scene where you were sitting on the bleachers ( i think) you were just facing diagonal from the camera perspective. Just some ideas but I think, finding your channel, that i am mostly interested in what you have to say than how it looks but I wanted to offer feedback anyways

Very good and important points, phrased in a succinct way. And they are worth repeating. While there is an increasing awareness of the insidious design of these platforms, the majority still doesn't quite seem to take it quite seriously. Also, it took me a moment to realize that "Kursh Khazar" wasn't a Russian sociologist, but the German infotainment channel Kurzgesagt, haha. Never thought of Sonder as a solution to this problem. It would also make a great name for a Social Media platform that is actually designed for human connection, rather than mere engagement.

I try to keep my videos as mostly opinion pieces, with just a little grounding in more empirical data. That leads at times to me bordering on the line of being academic enough to attract more earnest scrutiny regarding my underlying research. Which, honestly? I take that as a sign that I'm hitting my own target pretty perfectly. You're a little right, it's a little unserious, because this video in particular is more of an opinion piece informed by data, rather than a research piece including my opinion.

It's been awesome hoping again. I've been struggling with my mental health for the last several years. About 2020. I reached out to talk about some of my darker thoughts. I've taken steps. like forgiving myself and learning to feel again. If I had to hypothesize on what broke me out of my cycle was. I stopped trying to think my way to a good feeling. People can be so irrationally dumb. Which usually leads to people hating on something, because they have never taken the time to understand it. So if people can hate irrationally why should I try to make it make sense. I can be happy without reason. I couldn't beat hate with reason so I decided that the best thing was to love and be hopefully. Hope doesn't make sense. there is so much bad and time and time again as individuals and as people we fall short. Why hope? It makes me feel better. Hope is something you give yourself during the dark times. I know it's still hard to be hopeful at times. learning to cultivate it for yourself can be a challenge. However when it does bloom, it's almost as if you're a kid again =)

I've been teaching for 30 years. I teach at a great school. My kids are good. My parents are fine and my admin is helpful. I will teach until I can't get up anymore. Young teachers are trying to change the world and you are stressing yourselves out. Do your best, forget about the bra straps and the nonsense paper work. Don't sweat the small stuff. Go home when the bell rings. Be with your family. Students are not family. They are not friends and you are not their savior. Real life is not like TV. You are not a miracle worker. No one is. You are not a gardener and they are not plants. You are not supposed to "make them grow." You are not inspirational. You can't save everyone and you pro0balby can't save anyone. You certainly can't teach the ones that don't want to be taught. Its always been that way. You will find once you quit that the grass is not greener at your next job.

The grass is greenest where we water it, that's for sure. The problem is that I don't want grass, I want wildflowers! Something natural, that's supposed to be here. My "next job" (This video is pretty old now) ended up being substitute teaching, and working part time on my own business. I have been much preferring it. But mostly because I've had a lot more say over my work/life balance now. I've been loving it, and the freedom it affords me. It's been great to be in classrooms, but without all the obligation of being the teacher of record for any one class full time. Your advice is exceptionally on point and valid for anyone on the edge of quitting, though. I want to uplift this to anyone who still has some fight in them! Have reasonable boundaries, and you can be an adult in these kids' lives. Not their savior, or parent-replacement. But just one good adult. And THAT IS ENOUGH!

@withyhydra95 Ай бұрын
Yes and no. Out of context the phrase implies a mandate, which is toxic. Sometimes we just can't, and that should be ok. But in context it represents the erasure of a gendered "out group". It's saying that we're in this together, the bros and the hoes, and that we should be looking out for one another equally as much as we can. Critically, it also communicates that message in a way the young man can understand. Based on the whole rest of the video, I don't think OP is at all trying to push the message that men must be confined to the role of caretaker. Humans should all be caretakers.
@TheQuietPartisLoud

I genuinely think this is the biggest flaw in my reasoning here. And I can see and feel what you disagree with here. It's been hard to think of a good replacement for the masculinity of the past, though, I continue on later to center the idea of ".... [whatever]-hood...as an aspect of growth and maturity..." around 7:36 It's been hard to really flesh this out in less than 10 minutes, but that is what I'm really wanting to get at. The idea of being good parts of our communities, and taking care of ourselves, so we can then later take care of others. But, you're right, I'm still saying that I think we should raise our children to be people that are empowered to take care of others, even if that responsibility can carry some negative effects. It's the paradox of parenting, and leadership. But I'll own up to it, and take responsibility for what comes with that line of thinking. I just think caring for one another really is that important.
