I think the reason why the city is named Armenia was to acknowledge the brutal Armenian gencide (I might be wrong)

it is unknown some Armenian sources claim that there was either an Armenian presence there, the official website of the city claims that "Originally the city was thought to be called "Villa Holguín" as a tribute to the then President of the Republic. But the news of the massacre by the Russians in a region of Bessarabia called Armenia and the existence of a farm with this name made the founders prefer this name" (I used google translate), wikipedia claims that it's cause at the time it was popular to name cities with Biblical names, and since Armenia is associated with early spread of Christianity, they decided to name it Armenia There is actually a large number of other cities and villages named Armenia in Colombia, which makes me believe the wikipedia version the most, and a lot of places named Armenia in Central America (from beaches, to villages and cities), one Russian-Armenian youtuber suggested that it was named after/by the Mekhitarist Armenians (Armenian Catholic Order) that traveled there with the Spaniards all of this is not backed by any source, which raises the confusion about the name of this places
