The Yakuza thing isn't that you lose a finger by joining, but if you cause dishonour to your clan/family the patriarch will ask you to chop off your pinky to pay for it. The members who do this may or may not be discharged from the clan. It's a dated practice, I'm not sure how much weight of still holds in modern Yakuza clans.

Unfortunately, the people of past (cough 1970s-1980s cough) didn't know this, and as such, created characters like Smokey the Bear to promote fire prevention. This then lead to mass amounts of underbrush, which acted as literal Fuel to the Fire, creating the mega fires in California and Australia that we all know and (at this point) tolerate while we keep trying to put it out. The yakuza part is actually a punishment, when you upset the boss you have to cut you pinky off (don't remember if it is entirely or just a large part of it) to placate them, it is called "Yubitsume" and is believed to come from the time that people still fought with Katana as it was believed someone without their pinky would be unable to hold one, or at least defend themselves with one, so they would have to make closer bonds with those that would protect them.

I should add about the yakuza thing: you don't get your fingers cut off after joining. They might want you to get a full-back tattoo, but you only have to cut off your finger if you break a rule of some sort. In that case, you're expected to chop off your pinky finger (usually in front of everyone else) as a sign of repentance for what you did wrong.

It's a shame Fire Red and Leaf Green don't let you trade until you've done everything in the game... Patterrz is so excited to compliment Fire Red and Leaf Green having all the new pokemon in a particular area, but it's a pretty obvious thing to do when they are faithfully recreating the generation... the idea would have been fine if we just could have traded before beating everything- because trading gen 1 pokemon to your copy of Gen 3 would have been so satisfying and yet you can't trade with Gen 3 until you've finished playing the remake...

I used to have a couple fire red/leaf green e reader cards, as well as the gamecube animal crossing, so I did learn about the e reader's original intended functionality years ago. I also knew the hiker was a shroom addict, although I'm not sure where or when I learned that, but also years ago. almost everything else I didn't know. Another thing you might not know: A LOT of pokemon have gender differences, but they are often so tiny that they weren't really noticeable unless you are looking for it... Take the mascot Pikachu for instance. Most people know that a female has a heartshaped tip of their tale, while the males have blocky edges. But did you know that Raichu also have a gender difference to the tale? The males had a pointed tip like a knife, but females lack the pointed tip! A ton of other pokemon have these tiny differences too if you look close enough...

1: I knew about the E-Reader, and I knew there were cards for FR/LG, for the Trainer Tower and stuff, but I did not know exactly how many there were off the top of my head. 2: I knew good and well about those minigames. Never had the pleasure of playing that Tyranitar minigame specifically, but not for lack of trying- I knew it existed, just never was able to get the necessary cards. This was honestly some pretty fun stuff. 3: Knew the originals were Red and Green, knew they had considered WaterBlue, and agreed completely their logic behind scrapping that idea was totally screwy. 4: OK, didn't know that it was just one man. I knew of this man and that they named NPCs after him, but I didn't know that it was pretty much just him doing the translating. 5: I knew as much that they were based on islands off the coast of Japan, but... not really much else than that. Knew about the scrapped maps, though. 6: I know all about how Altering Cave was meant to work. That was such wasted potential, that would've been so cool! Sigh... At least it was good for EV training in Speed. 7: Knew about the changed numbers of fingers and toes. Didn't know about the reasoning, though. 8: Knew about the wireless adapter, still got the pair I got when I first got FR/LG. I think I also knew that they were considered the precursor to DS wifi. 9: Knew about the drunk guy and the high Hiker.

But Patterrz, fire and plants can exist in harmony. Fire burns away dead matter and enriches the soil so new plants can grow. The Native Americans used controlled fires all the time to keep forests healthy. In fact, some pinecones can only open when exposed to fire. The problem now is that we’ve let our forests grow and plant matter build up so much that when fires do happen, they become too big to manage.
