When I moved out on my own a few years ago, I made sure to get a circular saw and drill. Those two on their own will solve so. many. problems. Mine are Ryobi like in the video and I got them as a package deal from Home Depot on Black Friday. I think it was around $150 for both tools and a battery pack. When it comes to learning how to use them, I highly recommend Steve Ramsey’s channel. He’s actually a woodworker, but he makes excellent basics videos. He has a bunch that are basically saws, screws, drills, etc. 101.
@tvstudentNL5 жыл бұрын
I was about to recommend Steve Ramsey, but I see someone else already did as well! He’s really great for beginner/weekend woodworking, and has great tips for what to look for jn your first tools, and how to use them. I’ve been woodworking for over a year now and just got delivered my first table saw today. I’ve been able to make lots of great pieces of furniture with only a cheap second hand miter saw, drill, borrowed jigsaw and second hand sander. I’ve since expanded to having my own jigsaw, circle saw and now table saw and I can make all the things. Start looking on craigslist (or maybe some Prime Day deals!) and begin small. Another great source for easy to follow woodworking plans is Ana White. Good luck and have fun!

Tip for anyone doing the canopy diy- you should probably attach string to the corners of the rectangle and hook them onto the ceiling.. this way the canopy stays in line with the bed and isn’t crooked

Love how the corner shelf turned out! One quick carpentry tip: when using wood glue, your seams will be a lot cleaner and stronger if you use a little scrap of wood or your finger to smooth out the glue so that it evenly covers the surface before attaching and clamping the other piece. It also really helps to use a damp rag to wipe off glue that leaks out of the edges after clamping before it dries. That way you won't have to sand those big glue bumps off later! Plus, your stain won't sink into the parts that are covered by wood glue.

@cynthiahowe86975 жыл бұрын
FYI wood may shrink after being cut but I have used recycled wood from an old house and 2x4's were actually 2x4. Now the shortage is due to blade width. Each side of the wood loses a blade's width because they aren't allowing the width of the blade in the measurements to cut the boards anymore. Like when you make your own patterns if you cut on the line or outside of the line or inside the line it changes your seam allowance.
@camilleelasky5375 жыл бұрын

Given how light that canopy would be I bet it would make a great classroom feature. I know some elementary school teachers get really creative with reading nooks, and I think that could look pretty great. Maybe modified with a smaller rectangle depending on the size of your room. But it looks light enough to hang on the bars between drop ceiling tiles, is why I thought about it.

the canopy may be more practical is the top of the ring is also closed by the material , as to prevent mosquitoes from munching on you for example!
