@@CarrotCornerPokerbut 50k hands isn’t enough to even tell anyone your winrate in right??
@CarrotCornerPoker
@CarrotCornerPoker 10 ай бұрын
@@Jacobson-dp7gg Hi, thank you for your interesting and thought provoking question. I think we can say with a very high degree of confidence that improvement has occurred over 17bb swing in results over a 50k stretch, but you’re correct, 50k hands is not a credible sample for a coach to use as credentials because results during this size of stretch can vary by multiple bb/100 especially in reggy high variance games. A coach who posted 50k samples as proof of ability could simply pick one that was 4 or 5 bb better than the norm. Similarly, strong/winning players often break even or even lose over 50k samples in high variance games and so just as a 3bb winrate wouldn’t show that the coach was winning over the long run, a -3bb winrate wouldn’t show that they were losing over the long term. If the win rate was 17bb/100 or -17bb/100 that would be a different story and would be highly indicative of the coach being a winning or losing player respectively. I’d recommend checking out primedope’s variance calculator for help with understanding how variance works. It’s not a black and white thing and it’s definitely something you want to understand if you’re serious about poker. Best of luck. Pete.

I’m still playing - tho not as much as I’d like! I’ve gone from heavily losing at 25NL to breaking even at 50NL, so I’m really happy with how From Losing to Cruising went. Between that and the Carrot Corner courses I have done I know that I have what I need to kick on, but it will take work & effort on my part to get there. 🍀

My only problem in general with this is, it's so easy to exploit. Take your trip 9 example you overbet river with trips and block bet weak value and bluffs. So vs you I can raise so easily for thin value on riv and overfold to your overbets
@CarrotCornerPoker
@CarrotCornerPoker 10 ай бұрын
I think you’re missing the point. The value-overbets are balanced with bluff-overbets and block value bets with block bluffs. For the most part there is no need or want in GTO (or in reality) to put lots of nutted hands in a block range. You can only overfold when your opponent is under-bluffing. In the 98s hand we can have plenty of bluffs. We just happened to have a value hand this time. And yes, you’re supposed to be able to value raise more thinly vs a block then vs a big bet - that’s just normal poker.
@qtamomusic7620
@qtamomusic7620 10 ай бұрын
If your block betting range is very capped, can't you be exploited by a massive overbet raise? I'm not saying that it's good to block bet the nuts in practice (although against maniacs it probably is), but I would be shocked if GTO didn't add a sprinkle of nuts into the block range to discourage a large raise sizing.

On the k8s hand, dont you think we could bet 2/3pot in real life? I mean, as we know, people dont defend their check back range as a GTO would, thefore we can make a case that hand is strong enough to bet bigger. Thoughts? Id block bet something like 55 there

11:06 I've snap checked turned nuts before to give a reverse tell ; ). I sometimes mentally prepare myself for potential future decisions I will make to make them quickly in order to not give away timing tells. The easier fix is probably to frequently tank post flop and give no timing tells

Just watched the first hand. Why is that a block bet? I thought a block bet was specifically designed to stop opponents value betting for a larger size, while still allowing worse hands to call, or making something look like a block sizing to induce? The AK in a 4 bet pot, is that not just a product of having very few bluffs left in your range, ergo the need to size down is automatic? Is block betting just the name of betting small on later streets?

Yeah block bet used to mean ‘a bet that stops your opponent making a bigger bet’ but these days it’s used just to describe a 10-33% pot sized bet on the turn or river.

Regarding 06:30 In a vacuum, overbetting with the metapopulation size is equally as bad, if not worse, than blockbetting. Outside of that, it depends on factors in the situation. Being aware of these factors is the first step, naming them the second, and valuing them in relation to their relevance is the third. The Zoom environment, where zombie hamsters are poked, gives the illusion of a vacuum. When decisions become simple and the answers derived from them are automatic, it's a good time to wonder if you're a hamster.
