This is the best poker content out there. Not only insightful, but the dynamic of a poker streamer still trying to improve after such a successful career with a wizard is so inspiring. To me, these videos are similar to what is going on with chess on KZbin. Even new players can watch a glimpse of this video and learn about the depth of this game and get inspired to start playing. I always wonder if these borderline flop defends become breakeven or slightly losing when we consider that its extremely difficult to play future streets perfectly, plus icm considerations (even in earlier stages). Of course, our opponent wont play perfectly either, but Id guess he has a better chance of playing well being ip.

True, but keep in mind the key here is if you gain equity on the Turn... obviously if you miss all of your back door draws and don't pair up with your over-card or at least gain equity in some way it will be a clear Check/Fold, unless you can find a good bluff situation.

Oh great, more depth in to the game. First when you start you only learn some opening charts and mess up flop / turn / river play. Then you learn to play those better... and then comes day like this where you realize how little you still understand...

Whats REALLY interesting about this video, is that i literally saw with my own eyes yesterday how lexs has been picking up stuff out of this session. There was a hand yesterday where he made a runner runner ace high flush, on hand very similar he folded in this example and made a mf huge pot. Pretty 🍌🍌s about this 😎👍

one thing I noticed that I don't remember being touched on - it seems like your thought process in a lot of these borderline hands is usually leaning towards "how can I fold" when it seems like this solver information is always pushing a "in what ways can I possibly justify continuing or even raising" outcome

The chance with a back door flush draw to get a flush draw, is about 4 %. Does this 4 % make the difference between calling and folding (the first hand) with J9 suited? Seems more logic if you have to fold with J9 clubs you also should fold J9 with a back door flush draw. Or does winning 1 more out of 20 games makes you more money, than losing it 19 times (without getting a J or 9)?

Are you totally discounting winning with a J or 9 on the Turn, or possible bluffing spots? Also, consider the pot odds from the BB, you don't have to win that often due to Antes and Blinds especially versus small C-bets. Typically for these spots it goes like this... SB + BB + BB Ante + 2.5 Raise and your call is 6.5BB pot for your call is 1.5BB.... you only need 23% equity preflop to call. Then post flop he bets 2BB making the Pot 10.5 with your 2BB call. You only need about 20% equity to continue. These are all things to consider here. If all of your backdoor and pairing up draws miss, then It's likely an easy fold when he fires again, unless you find a good bluffing opportunity.

Hey - thx for the content. Just to clarify - on the 487 board with K9o. Is it a good fold on that 2/3 sizing? You mention backdoor straight and 2 overs not being enough for a call? then what sizing do we start calling back? Is it the fact that the board does not really hit HJ range rather more our BB range, hence he might already be on an over pair or 2 overs that are better than us? ie KQ, KJ KT which would put us in a shit spot if we hit the K or the 9 if he has TT, JJ. What's the main reason to fold here :) thx!

I think the coach does say K9o is a good fold there. GTO wizard says that even against 33% sizing instead of 66%, K9o is a pure fold. It even continues to be 95% fold when looking at 33% c-bet from the CO instead of HJ, but it now does some tiny bit of raising. Only once you change it to BTN vs BB and use a 33% c-bet does K9o now continue 50% of the time (but folding is still an okay play used 50% of the time). Going back to the situation where you're facing the big size: Against the HJ, one issue is that the c-betting range is very strong and has a high percentage of overpairs. But since we're also folding pure against BTN, so vs BTN, another issue is that against the big size, your backdoor straight potential becomes a lot less valuable due to the fact that you need cards for your backdoor straight that already put one-to-a-straight on the board. Relatedly, villain in the BTN is supposed to often have these immediate straight draws when using the big size, or hands like T9o or J9o that dominate your backdoor straight when you do make it. And, as you say, when you hit your K and he hits a K as well, you're most of the time outkicked or up against two pair, so, hitting a K almost never works out GREAT for you. (K2s and K3s never use the big size for a c-bet even when they're in the villain's range preflop). Note that K9*s* with bdfd becomes good enough that you can do anything with it even against HJ (but folding is still okay), but without the bdfd you pure fold.

Zooming out, one important difference between this K9o hand and other hands shown is that this is far from a range c-bet for the opponent. Whereas K32 board and many other boards shown are either range bets or 75% bets. 874 is a good board for the BB so c-betting range is quite snug precisely because you'll have lots of hands there that are better continues than K9o. Every immediate straight draw (there are so many) makes for a better check-raise or defend.

So basically 'fish' for hand improvement when you only have runner runner type of hands right? A2 hearts and k47 board, 1 heart, 1 over card....Fish for it!
