For these crossover gamer/streamer/work from home use targeted products, WHY isn't hardware microphone mute option an obvious addition? In fact, I don't care if all other controls are software and there's just a big mute button. For this reason, I'm sticking with the Wave XLR but I do find VSTs occasionally broken and needing a complete reinstall/setup, which is annoying. I switch the device between two PCs so that likely has something to do with it, and is why on-device storage would be nice.

Given PreSonus's background with music production gear, having the button be a monitor mute (not actually a headphone mute as EposVox suggested) makes a lot of sense as that's a really common need in a mixing room. Then again, they also market it as great for DJs and I can't think of any reason why a DJ would want to mute the speakers instead of, say, their headphones. If it's not hardwired, maybe they can make it adjustable in software one day.

@@nickglover Well, than they should stick with the music costumers and don’t promote it to people that need to do professional conferencing. There are not enough hands for an appropriate face palm given that muting and unmuting yourself is now formally established as “good manners” since 2020. For me: I’ve bought the io44 to use with my iPad and dynamic mic for video conferencing - figured out that the mute button doesn’t do anything on that USB audio interface - can’t reach to my iPad on the wall; so I’ll send this back and probably use the wave Xlr (if nobody has better ideas for an XLR usb interface with onboard DSP?). Rather have no DSP but appropriate user focus 🤷🏻♂️ 😪

Great video!! 🙌🏻 I'm gonna use it solely for guitar practice with some amps sim. So I don't think I ever use those fat channel effects... It's worth getting one or am I better with a more traditional interface?
@35milesoflead Жыл бұрын
Hi Epos. It is worth mentioning that if you are in the Presonus ecosystem and own Fat Channel Volume 1 for use in your DAW, you can not use these Fat Channel plugins on the Universal Control system and, by extension, on your Revelator products. This is a pet peeve of mine for the Revelator line of gear. I own both the Revelator Condenser usb mic AND the io24. I also bought the Fat Channel Collection vol 1, years ago. I have currently been spending the last four days trying to get it the interface sorted because the remote app (UC Remote) won't connect to wither the Revelator Mic AND the IO24.

Noise suppression! That's all that is missing. Well, the connector layout is crazy but I agree with "who cares?" because I'm never going to touch those anyway. So I hope you're listening, Presonus! Get noise suppression onto this things DSP and you'll officially be the very first on the market to have everything streamers like me need! I'll hope off my WaveXLR right away for this if it gets noise suppression and it's good.

In case they're reading, OBS implements denoiser based on Speex DSP (maintained by Xiph), which is under a BSD-style license which is usable for commercial products. That in turn is based on Ephraim-Malah algorithm, a classic from around 1986. Their new AI noise suppressor RNNoise is also maintained by Xiph and also under the same license.

I've got to say, as the stream professor, you already had great production quality, before... but lately, everything from compression quality to AV (a given), to some of the more practical effects in the talking head (I would need a whole pit crew working on me to look that good under those lights) are just top tier. Network TV should have you on speed-dial, the next time they need to figure out how to record as a one-man band. I knew that already, but if anybody didn't, here's your demo reel.

Edit: You know, I can't believe it, but I plugged it into a different computer and there is significantly less noise. I wonder if they'll make it so it remembers the channel mute setting in hardware so we don't get deafened by the feedback for the time that the mic is active before the system boots for Universal Control to mute the mic (on the main output).

@boxfan6656 Жыл бұрын
While you and Harris often overlap in your coverage - often releasing embargo lifted reviews within minutes of each other; for some reason, his entire channel is devoid of anything Presonus. The onboard DSP is a game changer and I'm surprised most other manufacturers of USB mics or audio interfaces haven't jumped on the bandwagon. The Revelator products not only have more than serviceable onboard DSP for streaming, these are also great for pro audio. In such a short time, we've come a long way from a rack of 5 external boxes, each with over a dozen knobs, to something that is built into an interface or mic. For those who want different plug-ins, they can always be added in post. But for live monitoring with DSP with minimal latency, so far the onboard DSP is the only easy way I know. The old trick was to have effects in an insert loop that the performer would hear, but only print the dry signal to tape. This Presonus solution is great for two different camps who like to record completely dry signals to tape and add everything in post (generally North America) or those that like to record signals with some effects already, then enhance those in post (generally European).

1:55 just comment is relevatory for some of us who have been trying to diagnose electric static on even just USB bus based audio devices for the longest time. For example the behringer UMC 202 or it's HD cousin have Midas preamps and are often lauded for their decent it's a pretty good performance for $100 or so, but especially when using phantom power, that USB bus electrical hum is how to get rid of. Do you mean that DSPs eliminate this issue? I have esoteric needs for D&D live voice overs even during private calls and I added a cloudlifter not because I couldn't power the microphone I use but because of my niche needs, and the electrical hum is unbearable.
@SianaGearz2 жыл бұрын
This won't do anything for EMI pickup. And i have a hard time imagining that the hum actually comes from USB at all, why do you believe that to be the case specifically.

Would you recommend replacing my goxlr mini with an io44 if I just use it for general audio routing and discord? I can't stand the mini's dsp and software in general anymore, and I'm ok with only having a software mute "button". I'd probably end up running 60 dB (currently 63 dB on mini) of gain on my Rode Procaster (regardless of distance) since I'm a fairly quiet speaker, even for a relatively deep (gravelly/rumbly? a lot of the time, but not always) voiced male, but I'd also most likely use the LA2A emulation and potentially extra level, if needed, on the mic fader to make up for it, instead of max gain, but it really depends how much I can get before even getting to that step.

It is a real shame these interfaces are simply not designed for desktop use. I think you got it right with the analysis of their marketing material, they show a DJ using this between his music gear, and that is what they designed this to be used for. I can't use this at a desk. I am kind of stuck using GoXLR Minis right now even though I hate the GoXLR software just because the TC Helicon stuff features microphone mute buttons on them. I have no idea why PreSonus has a headphone mute button instead of microphone mute. I don't even know what the use case for that is for headphone mute. I would really love to switch over to a Revelator interface but the lack of microphone mute is a hard deal breaker for me.
