You Don't Need This Paintball Marker | 180R

Back in the day... 1990 ish We calipered our paint to see the sizing. We found that the RPS yellow/yellow, coconut and black/green were larger then the split shells. The larger paint fit my autococker perfectly and the smaller fit the automag perfectly. We also tested enough to know that if the paint was too small for the barrel your accuracy went out the window and in gun breaks happened more. Mind you I had my stock (eventually I custom machined it to an 8" internal with a 2" muzzle break), a J&J sst barrel, a one off custom SST barrel (looked like a short boom stick) and we also found out that 8 - 8.5 inches of contact was the best length. Gee doesn't that sound like the the OG Smart Parts did?

So for the inserts, you will get better air efficiency, but you need to bore match the paint, so you really need a few sizes. Paint from different manufacturers (and even from the same manufacturers) will have different size balls. All you are doing with the inserts is making the gap between the ball and the barrel smaller. The smaller the gap, the more pressure, the less air you have to use. Won't change how the gun feels shooting, won't change how the gun sounds shooting. I've noticed even different barrels don't make massive, or even moderate differences in sound signature on speedball guns in my personal opinion.

Congrats on the new purchase! I actually just got into paintball after a 15 or so year hiatus and bought myself a shocker era which comes with a freak xl barrel with a single insert... those boring inserts can actually make a crazy difference in how straight the balls fly if you size it to the paint youre using at the field right before you play... When i first got my shocker i was kind of meh about getting the freak boring kit, but a guy at my field let me size the paint with his kit and i used the insert and my shots were significantly straighter and more consistent than they had been earlier in the day... to the point of me ordering it immediately when i got home... so give it a try!

Once you find the correct paint to bore match for your paint it makes a huge difference. Barrel kit is always the 1st upgrade I recommend for any marker.
