I have an old Homelite blower that I have had since the late 1990's and it still runs like it did when new. Sears built some quality stuff back then.

I would without a doubt take an older trimmer and any type of older outdoor tools. I mean I do own a srm 225 but today's stuff don't compare to the older equipment. Older equipment was built to last

Might I recommend a snake camera thing with a light so that you can check the piston/ring and the cylinder when issues like this arise so it’s easier to diagnose. I know I’ve seen recommendations like this before on your channel, but I’m just making another lol. Also I think the reason the spark plug was stuck was the same reason the piston was stuck, not the fact that it was over tightened, but I wasn’t there to tell you, so that’s just my guess. Good video as always, happy thanksgiving!

Yep I completely agree about the camera! I think it'll help out too.

The old Homelite!! Those were very popular here in the 90's. Even Homelite chainsaws were common.

I haven't encountered many seized engines, but the best thing I have found is a 50/50 mix of ATF and Acetone. I have had 100% success getting them to break free with this mix, but getting them to run afterwards is a different story. It just depends on how bad the rust is.

Yep, I remember the Shorts video you posted about this exact trimmer. I would definitely keep the older one if it works just fine. If parts are still available for it, why not? I love those older Homelite trimmers.

Older machines are the only way to go! Especially with these "budget" trimmers. The new commercial brands are fine, but the garbage the sell at walmart isn't gonna hold up anymore. Gone are the days of walmart selling the Weedeater Featherlites , and Homelites. Even those older McCullochs from the 90's were better than the crap made nowadays. I prefer Older equipment, just as long as you can still find parts for them. Great video IHG!

Happy days. Through a complete coincidence, I finally made contact with the owner of a mower I have had for over two years. The mower has been sitting in my shop the whole time since I could never get in touch with him. He told me to keep it, so I can finally go ahead and fix it. It had been sitting for years, and I told him I would get it running for him. I did, but I couldn't get the carburetor to run properly and could never get in touch with the guy to see if he wanted to buy one for it. That knocks one stalled customer project out. Two more to go, lol.

To answer your question, i would choose the older machine. The build quality is better and running them is alot easier. Plus most of the older trimmers were 50:1.
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE12 сағат бұрын
The build quality not to mention the materials used decades ago is so much better than stuff of today.
@SHOINOFF10 сағат бұрын
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE yeah, the stuff of today is made to not last so we the consumer have to buy a new machine every year. Kind of like new cars. Made super cheap and sold for the most the dealer can get.

I like the older stuff. You just can't match the quality with modern equipment. I am working on an old Snapper mower around the same age for a friend. Everything on that mower is made of thick metal. There is virtually no plastic or pot metal on that mower. It is all steel, and easily weighs twice as much as a modern mower. Back then, stuff was made to last. I am perfectly happy breaking even or taking a small loss to keep these older machines going. They will be around long after all the plastic crap has disintegrated.
