You did a smart thing starting a KZbin channel. This is from a retired State of Ohio corrections officer, who worked 35 years in several state prisons. Many prison inmates talk about doing something productive with their lives when they get out. You actually did it. Congratulations!!!

I've got a 71-year old uncle up in Vacaville doing 25 to life. Went in back in '91. Every time he's up for a parole hearing he gets rejected. I'm thinking it's because he's old, my grands are gone, my mom and most of his other sibs are gone. He was never really close to his nieces or nephews so he's got nothing to parole too. He chooses to remain incarcerated and sabotages himself.

Big Herc , I work in a hospital that has a contract with the DOC. There’s nothing more sobering than an older convict who’s dying in prison. We also care for inmates who have been attacked by other inmates. You don’t see the realities of prison portrayed in rap songs or videos.

When I was young I knew one guy just out of high school a nice Jewish kid who couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag got caught by Pennsylvania State troopers back in 74 with a large bag of weed. He wasn't selling he was just a weed head. Long story short he got busted, took a plea and did around two years but he came back horribly depressed and suicidal and killed himself less than six months later. Found out from his brother he was tossed around like a bag of candy with no need to say the details. Needless to say his misfortune was a lesson for many of his friends including me. After that anytime if anyone asked me to some dealing or try to goad me into a stupid fight I walked away.

Everything happening on the streets is just a show that's a re-run. And the problem is that these young dudes ain't been around long enough to have seen the show repeat itself. That's why the statement "You out of touch...you don't know how it is out here." is always the first thing out of their mouth when you try to school them.

5:00 - I have a friend who was found guilty of murder and he had JUST turned 21. Fight was over a woman, and my friend made a bad choice. He went in at 21, and he will be in his mid 40's or maybe early 50's by the time he is out. His entire life will be gone. No adventures as a young man, no career prospects, those are the best years. I think he'll be getting out soon and I don't think I'll reconnect. Anyway, yeah it sucks going in young because thats gonna be the only way to live that they know and your best years will be gone, and if you do behave once you get out you will have no financial opportunities

My brother told me a story about prison commissary. My sister-in-law, my brothers wife, is named Hannah. Hannah's mother got a collect call one day from Davey. Davey used to date Hannah right around high school and maybe a year after but started associating with unsavory people so she ended it. Turns out that Davey went to prison for a string of auto thefts and armed robberies and was sentenced to 30 years. Now Davey is calling Hannah's mother because he lost touch with Hannah. Hannah's Mom explained that she's married, has been married for 10 years, has two kids and isn't interested in talking to Davey. Davey said he just needs her to put some money, for old times sake, on his account so he can get some ramen noodles and candy bars. Hannah was appalled that he would even call asking for something like that. I'm thinking that Davey was calling everyone he'd ever known even remotely in the hopes of getting cash. How pathetic and degrading is that?
