Should've used simple physics 1 for the catapult, bearings on creations that are attached to the ground are super strong on that setting, only ones on free floating objects are floppy
@vibaj162 жыл бұрын
wait what? Why?
@ADonutMan2 жыл бұрын
@@vibaj16 Simple physics 1 isn't really just "worse physics => more performance" (that too but not only that) , devs test a lot of optimisation features that can impact gameplay and creations in ways they don't know. Basically this is a new calculation method for bearings and how stuff on them is handled. When a creation is attached to the ground it's stuck to world's block grid, so we just take the axis which the bearing is on and rotate things that are on it relative to the world grid (and the world itself) and don't allow any off-axis movement and voila we got super performance friendly bearings that hold everything with a grip of a titan!
@theyeetus14282 жыл бұрын
@@ADonutMan Why don't they just do that for the higher physics settings?
@vibaj162 жыл бұрын
@@ADonutMan I thought that the weak bearings was a purposeful (yet dumb) feature. Isn't it actually simpler to have the rotation be locked so that it can't "stretch" at all? I remember someone saying that Axolot allowed some "stretch" to make joints more "realistic"

9:03 i believe the problem there may have been the fact that one od the bearings was attached to the arm instead of the ground
@vibaj162 жыл бұрын
I don't think that changed much of anything
@Pystro2 жыл бұрын
@@vibaj16 Except maybe the asymmetry of the force on the arm, which made it jump out of the fork in the first place, could have come from that difference in the bearings. Or it may have come from the fact that an even-width lift interacted with an odd-width catapult arm. But I also don't think that once the arm was out there was much of a difference.
@steeljawX2 жыл бұрын
That wouldn't really change anything. The main point is that there are 2 bearings on 1 system working cooperatively to bear the entire force being applied to the arm. Bearings, pistons, and suspension are all notorious for failing first in Scrap Mechanic. So naturally, even if he had both bearings based on the uprights, the result would be that we'd see the catapult arm flying around without a bearing on it. Same result with a different aesthetic. It was a pretty predictable outcome since physics pieces (the three I listed before) and matter are the first things to fail when numbers get too high.

I think the flywheel is actually physically accurate. As the wlywheel hits the stopper, a huge force is pushed into the ground, which pushes back. It could also the be spring that stores the energy, and then distributes it between a down force on the flywheel and an up force on the bar. And, hmm, yes, if you have a havy items bouncing on a spring, you can make a lighter platform jump.

The thing that makes drifting with drift trikes and drift cars in real life easier is a thing called caster angle, where the pivot pint of the wheel is actually at an angle. I don't know if this would help in scrap mechanic as the steering is designed to straighten if there is no steering input, but in real life where the wheels try to correct themselves, caster angle forces the wheels to countersteer easier
@rip_81142 жыл бұрын
I think the problem with the trike is that your caster is the wrong way so that makes the creation unstable. The steering axis should contact the ground in front of where the wheel contacts the ground. This could be achieved by making the handle steer along the diagonal connection instead of the vertical axis. Not sure if it will work in scrap mechanic, but in theory it should be better.

We do see stuff like that "suspension bridge" in the real life. Those suspension pieces are acting as expansion joints. Real bridges use them to compensate for thermal expansion/contraction. When a bridge is long enough, heating & cooling could change the length by a significant amount. Obviously, a bridge shrinking a few inches would be a problem if it's firmly attached to the ground, so there are expansion joints inside to allow the road surface to change size without destroying the bridge.

The spring bring isn't too far-fetched, hear me out. In large bridges, the designers have to take into account the fact that heat makes the asphalt expand meaning there will be nowhere for it to expand to, so the designers create a large peace reaching from each side of the bridge(width) to the other. And it creates large peace of asphalt that when it expands each part of the bridge has room to expand whist still being connected as a whole road. They are called expansion joints and almost every bridge with lots of asphalt uses these including the Brooklyn Bridge
