Congratulations, your story is an inspiration. I started studying five years ago, at 60. It’s been a great journey.

A major life achievement. Great respect. In this increasingly ugly world you you have shared with us a glimpse of the honor and beauty of an ancient discipline. Thank you.

I also started when I was 16. As you said, life got in the way. This is my third attempt at black belt. I am 53 now and will earn my first Gup this March. It will be a year or so from there to my 1st Dan, but this time I’m trying not to let anything get in my way. Yes, it has become an addiction. Great job to you sir! It’s awesome that you hung in there and very inspiring for me to hear your story since we have had similar issues along the path.

Kudos. I earned my chodan in Kyuki-do in 1997 at age 35. A couple of years later I interrupted my training to earn a second bachelor's degree and then move onto law school at age 41. In September 2019 I felt the urge again and began training in TSD. The color of the belt around my waist is secondary; I simply want to train and be just that much better today than yesterday.

Hi Matt, thank you for letting us watch the testing. I am sorry i do not know your student's name. If i am correct, from observing his kata, i believe his style is a form of karate. When i trained in Chung Do Kwan, we practiced the same form or kata, and it was named Chol-gi. His long journey of training, has brought completion and success, to a job well done. CONGRATULATIONS. Doug.
