Usually its one persons lawyer vs another persons lawyer. Both sides present evidence to try to get a guilty or innocent plea. Myself I don't care if somebody is innocent or guilty I just don't care. Most jurors agree with the majority opinion to get out of there as quick as possible.

By now jury duty should be done over the internet, like with Zoom or something. It's absolutely ridiculous to force people to drive or travel to some strange neighborhoods we do not feel the least bit comfortable with when it's totally unnecessary, especially with the Covid thing. It's disgraceful the USA people haven't done this already. It would save everyone alot if they didn't force people to go in person to the jury duty.

Oh well if she didn’t consent then she doesn’t have to go. There is a box for [] I do not consent. Just check it off and that’s it. She just also needs to put a line through the part that says “Failure to appear could result in a fine or jail” to let them know she’s exempt from that too. 🤦🏻‍♂️

As a lawyer, I'll let you in on a secret: Just appear for jury duty and calmly tell the court: "I believe in jury nullification. I won't agree to follow the court's instructions because I believe that the jury is entitled to determine both law and facts." You'll be excused immediately! Judges and most lawyers don't want the public to know that since the Bushel case 300 years ago it is the law that jurors can't be punished for disobeying the court's instructions. Why do you think that before the Civil War juries in Boston acquitted everyone charge with assisting escaping slaves? Jury nullification!👍

Eastern District in Detroit refused to give Excuse for lack of transportation. I live 70 miles from the court in a rural town of 2300 people. There is no public transportation, and Uber is $91 each way per day (5 day call-in service period). I was granted a Postponement, which will give me the time I need to gather up medical documentation for dismissal. What if I did not have a qualifying medical condition? Do they honestly expect average Americans to have $900 lying around for non-reimbursable Uber rides??? RIdiculous.

Oh so there is a disqualification for “disability” ... defiantly using that if this ever comes to me! With severe anxiety this is something I can not and would never do. I read before they do NOT want people who cannot best help the case and I would be very disappointing for them and probably cry the entire time 😁

In Texas you can skip until you get a letter with red text on it. I skipped relentless summon letters for an entire year till they finally had enough of me. I'm glad I went in 2019 before corvid was a thing.

@@Faiza453 sometimes nothing, but sometimes you’ll get a summon to appear in court before a judge to explain why you didn’t show and possibly get a fine. If you skip that one you WILL get a warrant for your arrest. So it’s best to just go.

Depends on your state. But in Maryland: “If you do not appear for jury service at the date and time directed by the summons, you can be fined for up to $1,000, put in jail for up to 60 days, or both.
