Holy Shit, I'm glad I took so long to get a phone, I refused to get a phone until I was 16 completely refused, my parents friends and family all barked at me about it and I only got a phone when I actually needed it to communicate or take photos for school projects. I always was afraid of becoming a phone zombie and I always found it quite odd and rude when people pulled out their phone mid-conversation. I did and still do suffer from a computer addiction but I barely use my phone and I usually end up procrastinating charging my phone. I am bloody glad for that and its no wonder I am the only person in my family who doesn't have depression.

Quitting TikTok was the best decision I’ve ever made. I quit cold turkey August 12, 2021. I was scrolling for hours and putting it down just waiting to get my next fix. My parents use TikTok and my dad showed me a video with a currently popular sound and he was laughing like Patrick. The video? The most unfunny shit next to Amy Schumer. Personally, I have adhd so I’m always listening to something so I listen to your channels because even though I’m not Australian, I do like to learn about how American politics has an effect on other countries. Or Creep Cast lol

Bruh I did the same thing quitting in 21 and over the past year my older relies especially aunties keep sending me and showing me these clips they laughed their arse off at on Tik tok and they are just complete and utter dog water unfunny clips or generic dog grooming clips, I can’t believe ppl spend hours per day on this stuff

Getting a dumb phone was the best thing ever. It really helped me break the cycle of redownloading the apps. These days I'm back on my smartphone but have no desire to redownload because my habits have changed. I will say, you need something to replace the time on the phone. When I first got off I was so bored and didn't know what to do with myself. I've since picked up old hobbies like painting and more reading. I do still use youtube but as someone wanting to pursue youtube I feel like I have a good excuse 😜 Thanks Jordan!

How tf do we get rid of shorts?
@brumby924 ай бұрын
KZbin revanced. Has an option to turn off shorts. Saved me man. The doomscroll is real.
@ambignerd4 ай бұрын
YES I want them gone. I found a way to stop them being recommended on the homepage. If you’re in a browser, sign in and just go to the Home Screen of KZbin, there will be a barely visible “x” at the corner of the shorts and if will stop recommending them on the front page. I noticed only certain KZbinrs don’t have shorts almost directly under the video but most do. My recommendation is just let it auto play or if you have premium, que up videos that look interesting or something. I’ve written back and forth with KZbin on giving us an option just to turn it off but obviously that went no where. I used it back in the beta development and I actually liked it because it there would be only 10 videos that would play and it would force you to stop scrolling. Now I just want it gone. Sorry for the long winded reply

@ambignerd if you click "subscriptions" basically gets the shorts off the screen. They are cancer though.
@Ricardothetomato4 ай бұрын
Every time you see a short in your feed. Hit the 3 dots in the corner of the short and click not interested, do it enough (like 7-8 times) and they stop appearing until you start watching them again. Actually works!

that's just the current state of our dystopian society, not really doomscrolling "Doomscrolling is defined as the act of continuously scrolling through social media or news feeds and consuming a large quantity of negative news. This behavior is driven by the human propensity for negativity bias, which is the tendency to focus on and remember negative information more than positive information. This habit can lead to increased anxiety, stress, and a pessimistic worldview."

Anything that has an infinite scroll is pretty much doom scrolling

Hi Jordan, I've had problems with FB I've disabled it and I rarely use IG. Never used Tiktok never plan to either. Personally I'd rather talk to friend in IRL then use any social media which makes me feel anti-social. They use psychology and algorithm to push us to keep on watching. to then advertise to us, we've become part of the ecosystem the real end users are the ones paying for the ads on those social media companies. The main problem is, we as a species have given over a lot of our brain power to the smart phones.

I like tech a lot, I have always had the best phone I can get. I made an account on all the social media sites when they first came out, but I never got into them because they felt really vain. I never pull my phone out during conversations, I think it's really rude, so I don't do it to others, but over timd I've also noticed that the majority of people do it. I feel like it's not the phones fault because of this, my best friend is the same, big on tech, only pulls his phone out when it is practical or conducive to what we are doing. I think most people are sadly just inherently really inconsiderate. Maybe social media trained them and I skipped that, but I still game, browse forums, watch KZbin, so would have plenty of opportunities to be conditioned too.

Can you make a video about how the very concept of self-help is just a bit of a bum-out. Like I often feel like I'm on track with goals and stuff but the whole premise of self help advice is often that I'm a loser who could be doing more. My response to most of this advice is -- this is rational but I don't do it, Oh no why do I throw my life away, then I click off the video onto one about linguistics or something
