That comment is wild to me. You've made so much improvement and your progress is very inspirational for me in my own learning journey. Love your work!

you are improving at your own pace, and that's perfectly fine. keep drawing what you love 👍

that guy is delusional I know it may sound like "fake positivity" when we praise your progress, but it's pretty fucking obvious how much you have improved in such a short amount of time, and it's all documented! lol you are an inspiration man I was losing motivation but after I saw one of your videos I immediately started drawing again

Slightly off topic, but it is cool to see a fellow programmer's path to learning art. I am learning art to break into gamedev + make unique marketing assets.

Hey there fellow programmer! Yeah I got into programming because of my desire to create things. I guess drawing is an extension of that. 😋

I saw that comment on your other video when he first posted it and thought you handled it with way more class than I could have. Troll comments always trigger me, so we’ll done to you! (Also the more comments, the better the algorithm, so at least there is that)

I have been watching your videos for about a year and a half give or take, and they inspired me to pick up a pencil and practice in my free time. Seeing you start from the zero and improve got me to draw as well. While I may not know a lot about art from a technical standpoint, I assume like any other practice, trying a new approach, like drawing compositions from imagination will have a new set of problems to overcome. Also, people forget to have fun. A struggle I had when starting was trying to find the most efficient path instead of just drawing. I think improving is important, but why improve at something you don't enjoy?

I feel like a lot of advice like this really messed me up early on. As a beginner it kind of sounds like this person knows what they’re talking about. But hearing it as someone who is a little more comfortable in an art practice, it sounds like advice from someone that has a very rigid, and dull understanding of what art is.

I noticed that comment on that video and I think it's really harsh. you did amazing job at improvement ❤️ I know how hard is to find time for practise when you have kids and job and everything. beside, everyone is different and one way of practising might not work well for you. continue in what you are doing, it's clearly working and don't mind comments like that one

Have to agree with the other comments. Your progress is solid, and you seem to enjoy drawing. This is the most important thing.

I think the important part when someone wanting to learn to draw is to know that you'll actually have to do draw to get better. In other words you'll have to grind and love the process, as time goes by it gets easier. I kinda get guilty when you said it's the same thing on how you got good at programming, since I'm also currently a CS student and I'm currently not good at programming nor I like to program, but I know deep down inside that it's an important skill especially for us who are in the tech industry, hopefully I'll learn to love programming someday. Also as you keep doing any activity that related on what skills that you are trying to learn, you'll gain experience and that experience will turn into knowledge that you can apply when there's something that you are trying to solve (in drawing, you have to make sure if the anatomy is correct, etc). But even though as I'm typing this, I'm very guilty as I did not done any drawing for the last few months, maybe it's just I'm way too stressed at college that I feel I don't have time even though, I'm literally spending my free time on the internet, doing other things instead of developing the skills that I want. And as of now I have my own lesson plan to get good at drawing but there's also the fear of staying way too long on a subject instead of actually applying it to the art you are trying to make, I always feel that I need to get good like a requirement before going to another subject, but then again when I am at that point, I guess you could say that I have been consistently drawing but alas, at this point I think more about the problem instead of confronting the actual problem.

There's a lot of little things that can turn into blockers for these kinds of time-intensive skills - not because you can't get through it but because you're burning through your morale and willpower to do it. With programming, some of the problem is that the environments to do coding work in are really fragmented: there are learning environments that are self-contained and polished but aren't going to lead to interesting applications, and then there are production environments that are incredibly frustrating because everyone using them is scrambling over each other to finish exactly the one thing they were doing for work, so they accumulate a lot of "legacy arcane knowledge" in a short time period. And with drawing, it can be that you sit down and set your expectations really high, so you get an unhappy feeling before you even start. One of the things I suggest when people are hitting those kinds of barriers and becoming unhappy is to adopt the fitness technique of periodized training - have a progression in intensity over weeks, and then allow a rest period and a restart. With programming that can mean trying to follow along with new projects and "grow with the project" - about 10 years ago I would do that with people who were designing new languages, taking the opportunity to kick the tires for them and try out things and crash the compiler. With drawing it can occur in terms of defaulting to a little warmup where you just have some paper on a clipboard nearby and sketch some blind contour at a low intensity while watching a video, and then do anything more intense as a progression on that. Another thing to do is to actively shape your environment so that you can just sit down and immediately be completely focused on the one thing you wanted to do. With our current way of doing things everything gets folded into a "convergent device" like a phone or laptop, which means you have trouble making space for anything. I have all sorts of little tricks I've come up with to break away from that, starting with adding more physical space dividers - a lot of little difficulties can be resolved with a pencil pouch, a manila folder, a binder clip, cardboard dividers, etc. In my vest pocket I have 5x8" index cards on a small clipboard, which means that I can go to the library, sit down with my phone and draw using the phone as a reference...or go to the manga section and pick out something, hold the book open with a binder clip and study composition out of that. I did the panels of a whole five-page comic using those 5x8" cards, and they're not great paper(don't get Office Depot brand), and now I'm going through and trying to ink digitally and learning what I missed, but it was a good way of breaking up that work. I think something similar could be done for programming by creating a "coding station" that uses whatever old e-waste devices you can find and just tinkering with them and seeing what you can make them do.

@@JH-pe3ro thanks for the tips and advice, i'm planning to start little at first, maybe just a bare minimum and the hardest part is that i really really need to make it consistent until i become more comfortable in doing the activities, then i'll try applying what you have suggested

This commenter sounds like someone giving advice solely on videos they watched and how they thinks one learns to draw based off what they have seen in these videos yet does not really know how to draw themselves. Yes its great to learn the fundamentals and as you progress it adds more and more to your toolbox. EVERY artist I know however first learned by "copying" and or "drawing from life". Peter Han states he drew 1000's of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Cosmic Spectrum states the same thing but her muse was 1000's of Sailor Moon characters. Others its just cars or birds or whatever. People learn to draw because there are things they love and the things they love give them enjoyment. Drawing them lets you prolong that enjoyment and preserve what you enjoy. Soon drawing itself becomes enjoyment. Some start late or rediscover drawing when they are older. For those I seriously suggest at first you ignore all the classes and lessons. The real problem people have in learning to draw is getting overwhelmed. Information overload will kill the fun factor faster then anything else! Dust of your old comic books or find photos of your favorite things and just copy them. Draw them over and over. You'll be surprised as what you can do. Draw them till you enjoy what you see on the paper. Draw them till it is fun to draw them. Then once you gain a little confidence branch off into lessons. Do you need the fundamentals? Yes....EVENTUALLY! Do you need the fundamentals to copy a picture of Bug Bunny because you like it and want to draw it? NOPE! I promise you that you'll have fun drawing it too even if it doesn't turn out very good. Do it a few times and guess what? Oh that one turned out! I like it. I'm gonna keep it. Welcome down the rabbit hole! Because you'll want to do it again.

That comment is kinda toxic, I watched your first video ever and I can assure you I'm shocked with the improvement but my point that i really wanted to say long time ago is that i wish you draw something from the heart with your own unique style , many people now trying to follow Kim Jung gi path to glory , they see art as sport , for me thats a waste of time , nobody will ever draw a simple cube like the late master , so we better enjoy our art and tell stories our own way , sorry if i was harsh

The big problem with learning how to draw or DOING ANYTHING and the elephant in the room for most people THAT NEVER GETS ADRESSED is simple (at least for newer generations) "Can I learn to draw/play guitar/piano?" - Yes. "Can I learn to draw while having fun" - It depends. How long since you finished high school or college(highly competitive place with no fun allowed) , do you have a job? (same as before) are you 20 by any chance, do you have any other hobby where you are competitive and are pushed by others to be as competitive as possible? Then, you MIGHT not be able to draw while having fun which will result in you stopping because if you can't have FUN and can't be COMPETITIVE , why bother? This society that we live in pushes for the best of the best and maximum competitiveness and when your brain is met with something new that it's not good at , it's probably going to quit, it's sad but that's like 25-50% of people who pick up new things, I've watched my friends drop guitar, drop cooking lessons, drop a shit ton of hobbies because they are just not good at it in the begining and can't have fun. And now someone may say...BUT you can still have fun while being bad...ok sure then why does every hobby have that carnival thing with "You must be this tall to participate in the carousel (social media)" vibe, literally nobody wants to see BAD ART , nobody wants to hear BAD MUSIC, nobody wants to see bad GAMEPLAY, nobody wants to eat BAD SHIT , I DO WANT TO SEE THOSE but I am 1 in 1 flipping million. "Bro don't give up you have me and maybe other 5 lunatics backing you up , you can do it" sure 1 in 100 might have a shot but that's extremely bad, we need to change this work ethic that spreads like a fucking virus to our hobbies and passions. And you might say hey but do it for yourself, ok I have played games with no internet in my home on my PS2 for 4 years in a row as a 6 year old kid and I ALWAYS WANTED to discuss it with other people , that is literally IMPOSSIBLE , you are an OUTLIER if you do not share your hobbies or don't have any incentive to show others what you make. We live in a society where everything needs to be taken to the extreme there is no laid back things anymore , if you do not fit the mold you will be pushed down on a cookie cutter or threw out in the trashcan, the choice is only participate by the rules , don't or get shit on by everyone, or participate anyways and get shit on by a different community altogether (Artifical Intelligence) , very happy times we live in.

@@thelegenda8462 Read it a 2nd time and you'll get his point. If I were to summarize, what he's trying to say is that peoples' fixation on productivity actually kills the journey for a lot of us. And this fixation with productivity and being the best and so on is something that is encouraged by today's society, without really considering its drawbacks. He means to suggest that getting into a new thing when you already have a dozen other responsibilities can seem insurmountable and people quit early into it because of a negative feedback loop further reinforced by our societal obsession with maximizing output. "If you're not at this level, you're bad and should quit." when, no, like any craft, art and what else creative have you, takes a long time to master. Especially if it isn't something you can do full time as a result of circumstances. A lot of it mirrors what the video has to say and criticizes hustle culture and how much it's propped up on a pedestal, basically.
