Matt, when you’re building your little table/shelving, you should’ve left some airflow spots for that shelf on the floor underneath that .. The concrete is gonna have moisture coming through it most likely you’re gonna get mold under there

I cannot believe that Battleborn would not advise you to build a 48 volt system ,so much more economical and much safer. The batteries are shipped with a lower state of charge because of safety regulations .
@sillygoose9070

Why is it 'safer and more economical'? ( I am living on a boat and thinking about upgrading.)

With 48v you would cut your current flow in half which means you can use smaller gauge cable to connect. Most solar panels are 48v and so it matches with the batteries instead of stepping down to 24v. For water control on the concrete you can paint with a sealer. You could also use the synthetic decking material for the base.

48v inverters and controllers are way more expensive too, might not have been in the budget but it's not like it's hard to convert it later. 24v is by far the cheaper option on the efficiency vs price....

@@jasonharris3873no solar panels are anywhere from 12v-48v "18v-60v" but it's easy to series/parallel to any voltage/amperage you want. But if you series them amperage doubles, when you parallel voltage doubles.

I think you're doing 0:27 an incredible job. However, anytime you work with electricity you should have secured a 3/4" 4'x8' panel to the wall. #1 They make a special barrier paint so the plywood will not pick up any moisture from the cement wall. #2 by doing this you now can install any of the components anywhere on the board more securely then drilling and using plastic Rawls or plugs. It's actually code in a lot of places. You will at some point get moisture/corrosion on the back side of your components even though they are probably powder coated

Add 'Red' tape on the Black cables to identify them. It's done all the time. You are correct, there is no difference in the cables other than color. When you mark 3 phase electrical cables they don't create Blue, orange and yellow cables. You just tape them the color for identification.

Lots of hard work! Nice! Because concrete and stucco weeps moisture I'd mount plywood off some spacers to the back wall and then mount all the electronics gear on the wall to the plywood vs. directly on the stucco finished wall. That, and add your battery shut off switches as others have suggested. Best...

I live on the beach in North Carolina. Where I live, the building code requires that all wood structures that are in contact with concrete base slab be pressure treated. I've witnessed framers tear out complete framing jobs to meet code. I've also seen them cut and place the bottom of the framing in place and install a 2X4 treated lumber next to the concrete and under the framing. It's a big deal here on the beach. The non treated lumber will rot from the moisture of the concrete pad.

I built a small set of stairs out of non-pressure treated pine for my outdoor hot tub in 2006 and they are still doing fine 19 years later. I do occasionally put some Thompson's Water Seal on them because they regularly get splashed with hot tub water.

If I can, I would really like to make a suggestion. That large gauge RED wire that is touching the aluminum case needs to be changed so the actual wire isn't touching that corner. Reason why is it will eventually cut into the red insulation and short out... Just an idea for safety.

Nice video. If i may suggest to take out those two or one per inverter top covers. They are fine in general and prevent something accidently falling inside but if you live in area where is hot i suggest to take them out. It will help during summer hot wave ..at least i find it better for myself. In winter i put covers back just for giggle ..there are 4 small screws that are holding them in and trust me it will make a difference for those inverters.. Unfortunately for you if you went for those multiplus inverters it would be different as in top spot they have only transformer but Quatro or simple Victron inverter have there toroidal transformers and also same time there is electronics..so in long run ..in 10 years those capacitors will cook themself because of that extra heat..taking top cover away will allow inverters to have a little less temperature than it should.. I would also suggest to put some extra fan at bottom of each inverter to force air up at least during day where it is most likely inverters will work much harder.. It will cost you nothing and it will again improve life time of your inverters. Take care..also i don't know about your experience in summer but those DCDC chargers get pretty hot during summer time..even they should be passively cooler don't kid yourself..if that heater will get to 80 degree C you can bet your bottom dollar that charger will cook itself in 5 years only what you can do is put small fan below those 3 chargers you got there and let is cool even slowly is better than nothing Electronics don't like heat...If those chargers are cool all day long no need and will last 10 years no problem..but if those chargers are hot like hell..they will last few years for sure...but remember those capacitors will just blow up to matter what..protect your electronics from heat and you will be fine

With it beginning as a 12 volt system you have opportunity to run some low voltage like a 12 volt light that can run 24 hours in the building, 12 volt lighted path to the building, it being 12 volt gives you light if you have an issue with the higher voltage side of the system. 12 volt water pump for water transfer from holding tank to animal watering, so doing laundry you can run the 12 volt pump to water the animals.

In series - the voltages add; In parallel - the currents add. Electricity is like water in a pipe. Volts are like water pressure. Amps are like water flow rate. Think of cable gauge like water pipe diameter. Direct current (DC) voltages above 120 volts are considered hazardous. DC currents above 25 milliamps (mA) at 50 volts are also considered hazardous.

I’m hoping that you’re gonna have the batteries up off the ground a couple feet at least in case there’s any flooding ever. I don’t know if it floods there or not, but that would be cool. If you didn’t have to worry about that if all electronics are up high in the beautiful building!

Living off grid in the Missouri Ozark mountains for the last 2 years. Dehumidifiers use a lot of power and have to run for quite a while. As much as a portable AC. We use the Bluetti AC500 unit. W/4 B300s batteries. Also have 4- 400 watt foldable panels. I can also connect to my dual fuel generator. I'm an old man and all that you were talking, pretty much over my head. Your system would scare me. The AC 500 has all that built into its system/box. So I can just push buttons and search data, battery levels and wattages and all that. Been doing for 2 years. When in Civilization I was following you guys and you were living on a boat. You come a long way from the water. congratulations on your life changes. I would also suggest propane. Have 240 gal tank. Heating and cooking. Also use for the propane waterless heater. Next is our propane dryer. Good luck. Try and look in little more frequent. 4:37

Thank you for posting this video. I think your battery enclosure, inside the shed, should be constructed of at least 2X6 treated studs, sistered together if need be, for strength. Perhaps you can ask Battle Born their suggestions for a constructing a good inside-the-shed battery enclosure. I think the 2X4 studs are just too weak for the weight of the batteries. As others are saying, the untreated studs will rot fast. With all that said, I think you are on a very interesting journey together and I greatly, greatly admire the two of you.
