I've been watching your videos for ages and finally have to comment. Loved that you featured hot air ballooning and your pilot as well. A lot of people don't realize that the person 'steering' the balloon is a licensed and trained pilot. My dad was a hot air balloon pilot in the U.S. for many years and I just wanted to share one of his favourite quotes, "Take offs are optional...landings are mandatory."

When you get to Istanbul one thing that is definitely worth doing is the Princes Islands (Adalar) in the Sea of Marmara. The Ferries leave Kabatas at the last stop on the tram from Sultanahmet (Old Town). Buyukada (Big Island) is about an hour and a quarter from Istanbul. There is no motorised transport on the island only horse-drawn carriages which are not expensive to go right around the island where there a gorgeous old Ottoman Houses and palaces, also, pine forests. The wheels on the carriages are rubber and the horse's hooves are covered in rubber soles to reduce noise. There are plenty of good Turkish restaurants and walks around the empty streets to see the beautiful architecture. Many tourists don't get this far but it's a popular day out for Istanbul residents.

One of most favourite memories - going on a hot air balloon. Wouldn't have missed it!
@larryscalf25135 жыл бұрын
I'm glad to see you kids are having an excellent time in Turkey. The hot-air balloon ride was fabulous! But I'm afraid of heights, so I'm sad to tell you that ballooning is one of two things I would be terrified of and would never do. Along with skydiving, lol! But I would walk a glacier in Alaska, if I ever got the chance to travel there. One place I want you to consider visiting while you are in Turkey: Ephesus! Ephesus is an ancient, historic Roman city where St. Paul trod on the streets made of marble. No matter what your religious persuasion, try to get a tour because it is exciting to walk amidst the amazing ruins and learn about the old (now mostly abandoned) city. You will also learn about the intriguing story of the library. I won't spoil it for you.
@YvettesVibes5 жыл бұрын
I've never heard of Epheus, it sounds amazing, I love history! PS sky diving isn't so bad, bungee is much scarier haha

Sometimes at big ballooning events balloons actually DO hit each other, but they just bounce off. Same thing when they hit a building or a mountain. The balloon is so much larger than the gondola that the gondola almost never hits anything. The only things balloonists have to be *very* careful about are power lines. One of the most enjoyable events at any ballooning event are the "balloon glows" they put on after dark. The balloons all set up in a big parking lot or any big open field and they tie the gondolas to the ground and inflate the balloons until they are standing upright. Then they just use enough gas to keep them inflated, but not enough to pull the stakes out of the ground that the balloons are tied to. Everyone walks around and gets a chance to see the beautiful designs of the balloons up close. There is always music, either a band, a DJ or maybe a radio station. There are usually food and beverage vendors and the entire event is sort of like a big street dance. It's really a fun time!
