I got 7 months sober now Alcohol no drugs no weed no cigarettes . I started running to help my sobriety . I remember when I couldn’t even run for 2 miles without stopping and taking a break. Now yesterday i ran my first marathon, with a small break at mile 22. Now 2 miles is baby run. 11 miles is nothing . I started to feel beat up at mile 22 . Training to run an ultra marathon.

I can understand why some people run just to run, but I'm perfectly fine with my decision to stop running at 28. I just did not enjoy it at all, almost dreaded it actually. Now at 71, I'm still in great condition, but I only do what I enjoy. No aches, no pain, exercising every day in and around my house, mostly resistance training/calisthenics , walking/ hiking with my Shepherd Dog in the hills. Find what you enjoy, get out an do it, stay mobile.🍀

15 miles per week is not far in terms of long-distance running. There are many factors that can lead to joint strain / damage. I'm a 54 year old runner (84kg / 1.86m)who has been running regularly for 36 years now and I'm still able to do up to 10 miles per day without any joint pain. I've been managing my diet and recovery periods etc. carefully but, genetics are probably the reason why some people are able to tolerate the stresses of running whilst others don't.

This principle is true for a lot of things, not simply running. Addicts say the same thing about getting to a meeting, making a phone call, making room for self care, developing a spiritual life...all in order to stay sober, so that they can then choose life. Sobriety is not the end game, life is. For this man, his running is making it possible for him to the other things in life that are of greater value for him. His running is not the end game, it's simply the foundation.

Your options are to spend only 20 minutes on a stationary bike, which is better in many ways: 1. You can use it no matter what the weather is like. 2. You can more easily vary the intensity/hill climbing simulations. 3. Your joints will thank you over the long run. Running on hard surfaces, even while wearing expensive shoes, will eventually result in injuries to your joints. 4. Walk for 30 -45 minutes at a brisk pace when the weather is nice. You'll notice/enjoy more of the scenery, and your joints will last much longer. Also, you absolutely need weight-bearing exercise to maintain sufficient bone density, so set up a mini home gym with dumbbells, bands, a pull up bar, and an adjustable angle flat bench.

But, it’s about your worst days that define you. . Those are the days to look forward to eventually…knowing you have the fortitude to push through….or even doubting….but pushing through. . Like the great American Olympic gold medal super heavyweight weightlifter Paul Anderson used to say, he hated every squat he had to do in training for his sport, but he knew that he had to do it to be the best. And so he became known not only for his record setting Olympic lifts at the time (1956 Melbourne, Olympic Games), but also for his mind blowing ability in doing squats. People often ask “why do you run?” “That looks like it sucks, why would you enjoy that?” And most of the time I give a basic “I don’t know, I guess I’m just crazy like that” answer But for me it’s far deeper than that I run not because it’s fun or because it’s easy, it’s far from either of those. Long runs in the early morning when your legs are ready to give up and stop moving. When the sweat from 100°+ heat radiating off of the track is stinging your eyes. When after a run all you want to do is go to sleep and rest forever. No. It sucks most of the time. That’s why I run. Because the pain of doing something that no one forced you to do teaches you more about yourself than you’ll otherwise never know. Because setting a goal and going beyond what you think you can do is far more rewarding than taking the easy way in life and being comfortable. I run for the hurt. The struggle. The pure pain of being 10 miles from home having to run back or walk back. I’d rather get home faster. So I run. That’s why I run. I run for the sunrises at the top of mountains that the rest of the world is dreaming about but I get to see for real. I run for the feeling of community when running with others who aren’t afraid to work. These trails that I run are my home. These roads that I run are where I belong. The distance is my destination. I will keep going. That’s why I run. I run for those that can’t. Those that wished they were able to put one foot in front of the other but are unable. I run for the kid who is battling an illness or disease that has taken the ability to run from them. I run for the student who is too stressed and overwhelmed with life that they are unable to get out of bed and pursue the thing they worked so hard to achieve. I run for those who can’t. That’s why I run. I run because the world needs to be explored and running is the most visceral form of travel. You’re alone. Often too cold or too hot. It’s either blindingly bright or pitch black. There’s nothing but you and your steps. You and your thoughts…..And the world. No one to tell you to keep going. No flashy finish line or participation award. No sorry excuse for not completing your mission. Just you. So all you can do is run. That’s why I run. I’ve learned to be broken yet still making progress. I’ve learned that I can deal with pain and loneliness out on some random trail. I tell myself “just don’t stop for one more step” and soon enough I’m at the top of whatever mountain seemed too daunting several miles earlier. I run for the peace it brings me. That’s why I run. I run because God has gifted my body with a desire to push beyond what is comfortable and easy. I want to reach the limit. Well, I have reached my limit. I just ignore it and keep going. I run to give thanks for the body that I’ve been blessed with. As if to say “Lord, thanks you for what you’ve given me. I will not die having wasted it.” My runs are a long prayer. A long conversation which contains no spoken words. Just a silent conversation between a mortal frame and the eternal provider, Jesus Christ. I speak with my thoughts and worship in my heart, forgetting most of the pain that I mentioned before. It’s not chasing a high. It’s chasing the one on high. I’m not seeking validation. I’m seeking a connection to my God that only comes from being broken beyond you could imagine. When your physical frame fails and your spiritual existence is either gonna encourage you to keep going or is going to destroy all hope of completing your run. It’s deeper than you think. That’s why I run. All in all, my runs are my home. My runs draw me closer to God and who He created me to be. I will keep going. I will keep climbing. I will keep putting one foot in front of the other. “Just one more step” or “one more mile”. Because if this gift is something that I can use to point my life and others to Christ, why would I want to give anything but 100%. It’s not my life. God gave it to me. I’m gonna run after Him. That. Is why I run.

For me it's been making sure I do my daily walk, every morning, after a really bad injury that's taken me years to recover from because I have FSH Muscular Dystrophy at 42 years old. I was in the hospital and intermediate and acute rehab units for almost 6 months after the injury. Then I couldn't even walk with a walker for the first year after the accident. Then I finally got strong enough to start walking with a walker, and as of this year, I'm feeling close to being able to switch to a cane or maybe no aid at all (aside from ankle AFOs). Most importantly - as of April, I finally made the commitment to myself - including setting the incremental goals on paper(screen) - to walk every day, increasing my daily steps by 30 with the target of 7500 steps per day by October, and mapping out the planned steps per day for every week between now and October. I am presently falling short of the 7500 steps per day by October goal by about 75%, but even with that huge shorfall, the committed daily walking, since April this year, has been the foundation of getting my life back, and it's helping bring me back to life in many ways (even beyond where it was before the injury). The amazing thing I found about mapping out the incremental goals on paper, basically making several months worth of weekly walking schedules, is that after doing that it felt like it was no longer up to me, it's out of my hands. It's like my best self has decided how it is to be, and now it's just something I have to do, like this video emphasizes. It's a great place to be!

I'm doing other things of course, but the running or hiking is what I look forward to the most. I'm like him,it's like I HAVE to do it. I've been addicted to everything in life-hard drugs, nicotine, alcohol, food, porn, whatever. It's nice to be addicted to something that improves my life. I ultimately think it comes down to how much you want something. If you really really want it,you can do anything you want, and I'm finding out at a late age that that means all parts of life

I needed to hear this, exactly this morning. My whole life was being an athlete until my injury.. then came the long battle with depression. I was suppose to play D1 football, and when that fell through, I became suicidal. I had no other purpose in life, or so I thought. God will strip you of what you think you need, to show you what you really need. I will start running Today after work, thank you.

You sound like you are on a path to understanding and loving your true identity. Many people who have had much taken from them at a young age are the ones who realize that all the ego identities that we make up in our minds are not the truth of who we really are. I wish you the bliss of understanding and experiencing that you are SO MUCH more than any small ego identity will limit you into believing about the truth of you. Enjoy the magnificent life that you are. ❤

How could football be the only goal? I think something like 1.6% gets drafted into the NFL each year. To put that into perspective: like 1 in 4 of navy seals candidates pass the training. Just get the education lol. It was never going to be a career.

@@ChongLi88 I ran a 4.4 forty and was pound for pound the strongest person in the upstate. I could bench double my body weight and use to go one on one with Deandre “Nuke” Hopkins at Clemson. It was my way into college and I lost my scholarship because i tore my collarbone off my shoulder catching a touchdown. I know what the chances are, but you don’t know me. But God needed to humble me to show me I was more than football.

Wish I could run again and push my body to failure, but those days seem to have to come to an end. Perhaps further down the road I’ll be able to lift weights and build strength again, but running is still going to have to be out of the picture. Enjoy your body while it is still healthy. Never take the little things one does daily for granted. You never know when your life will change and set you onto a new course. Great message brother and for those who are in the same boat as me, we will come back stronger, but with some modifications to our routine.

Maybe, but if you go back through his years of film you can see the gradual progression. He trained as a bodybuilder for years and then recently in the past few has become a runner. His eating has been dialed in for years and he gets paid to workout. This is definitely achievable naturally

Few if any people that run 11 miles a day are as built as the guy in the video. Most have emaciated muscles. Sprinting...now that will get you in shape and you can maintain muscle mass.

I've been what I call "under construction" for the past 2 years. I grew up racing motocross and I boxed an took jitz for a few years to stay in shape, I tore my hip flexor in my right hip then about 6 months after I shattered my right leg, I was 23 when that happened. Life, kids and work took me away from healthy habits. I'm 44 now and I've been at this "gettin my legs back under me" for right over 2 years an man , it's been a nightmare , 2 years of constant hell , no sleep due to being inflamed constantly . I had what they call a dropped hip from not using my legs properly , im.literslly having to re-learn how to use my legs and how to weight them properly . I'll tell you, I feel like a higher power came down and gave me another body to use. It's amazing how I feel. I typed this to say that yesterday was my first mile , first of many . I've literally taken baby steps but now? I'm ready to dig in and get here things completely 100% . I recomend it whole heartedly but ... if you were in the shape I was in before ya start ? I hope you've turned off the pain receptors cause the shits gonna suck but you'll learn your body during the process and ? Most of all , you'll feel like you wanna feel..
