It's a success at the bush leagues (because access journalism pays) and why mess with a winning formula? Being a deniable mouthpiece for politicians, NGOs, and other political actors has many of the same access benefits you see with games. It has the same downsides, too, because the public doesn't get all their news filtered through the same few journalists. Though there will always be some few people who will prefer the stories told by favored journalists to what they see with their own eyes.

Examples are dedicated classroom teachers in an educational bureaucracy, many of the engineers and launch technicians and scientists at NASA, even some agricultural scientists and advisors in the former Soviet Union collective farming administration. Secondly, there will be those dedicated to the organization itself. Examples are many of the administrators in the education system, many professors of education, many teachers union officials, much of the NASA headquarters staff, etc. The Iron Law states that in every case the second group will gain and keep control of the organization. It will write the rules, and control promotions within the organization.

I used to be an auditor with one of the big 4/5 firms. A huge amount of time and energy was spent attempting to ensure not only independence from clients but also *perceived* independence. Failures in this regard would end up in lawsuits and press scandals. It has always been striking to me how the symbiotic (or parasitic perhaps) relationship between game studios/creators and journalists was just accepted. The conflict of interest is striking and obvious.

Craig, I have to point out, your game company idea sounds more like a publisher than a development studio. Nothing wrong with that, the business model could be very successful as like a game 'launchpad' or 'accelerator'. Talent constantly comes in with fresh ideas, they collaborate, they improve, you move to the next thing, they stick around, or move on with their experience and renown.

i can get behind the 50/50 dudes/women argument.. but only if you include mobile gaming. if you stick to console/pc... i dont think those two have a 50/50 split. hazarding a guess id think more around 80/20
@gipgap423 күн бұрын
In a relatively recent Capcom survey when asking what games people wanted to see from them, 82% were male, 14% were female and 4% were “other”. Now, I’m going to guess that some of those female responders were traps, and some of the “others” were actually biological males too, therefore, I’d say it was closer to a 90/10 split biological males to females.
@gipgap423 күн бұрын
I had my previous post deleted by KZbin but essentially I was saying that it’s probably closer to 90/10 if a recent Capcom survey is anything to go by.

It's nowhere near 50-50 with all extras added in. In North America, it's 88% male and 11% female (and 1% "other.") In Asia, it's 85% male, and 15% female. Someone's grandmother playing a lotto minigame app counts as a "gamer" to this misleading woke surveys.

I qualify as a senior now guys, but I'm still young, and have my eye on the prime entertainment format of the age and in the world. Big chunks of society have let that fact slip right on under their radar. Movies! Phtttt! Gaming is where the focus is at! The mind-rot has infected EVERYTHING, and that just won't do! Anti-gamer, and more broadly anti-consumer corporate business practices are a scourge on everything, but are easily solved when all of us simply say little more than "No," and turn away. Let those consumed rage on to the modern audience that isn't there!

Seeing someone that has experience in the industry speak out on the issues that have gotten out of hand and left unchecked is refreshing to see. Gives me some hope that we can eventually get back something similar to the younger years of gaming culture. When it was more "tech-punk" and less "crazy-corpo".

18:14 "I have no problem with game developers taking risks with their content" ... "Who doesn't love innovation" The great tragedy of the woke era of gaming is corporate investors have been pumping TENS OF BILLIONS of dollars into the gaming industry but ALL of that money has gone exclusively to political propaganda and NONE of that funding has resulted in even a shred of innovation.

It's like game developers nowadays simply want to be praised because they are game developers. Not because their work and accomplishments speak for themselves. I can understand the desire for diversity in the company but that should not come at the cost of quality
