Isles of Sea and Sky Part 9 - there's a great powerup that only unlocks once I get nine black diamonds. Turns out that the journey to get there is much crazier than you'd expect.

I have a weird feeling too that Tyler isn't always doing them the way he's supposed to. Like the game has given so many power ups at this point that there's a million possible solutions and he's just button mashing until he gets close to one. I had the same issue with Animal Well, where all the powers he had just made the puzzles easy in certain places

@@whatevername4873 Games like those are impossible to balance at some point. Once you get all the powerups, designing puzzles can be hell. In Animal well, the creator could block the players from using the disk and bubble wand by putting tons of vines all around or putting a hummingbird in the room. But if there's a hummingbird and a ton of vines in too many rooms, then it feels pointless to even have them unlocked. It's design hell where whatever you do, it will be annoying for some of the playerbase.

On the four elemental islands there are deities that grant powers through gems. On the snake island, however, it is YOU who floats and has their power awakened through the black diamonds. How to interpret that is up to you.

based on some of the secret paths and map layout, I think a dlc IS planned. like bottom left there's a seemingly useless secret path, but just in the clouds you can see an inaccessible island. on the big map, there's still a ton of unused space in the corners. even if it wasn't planned, they have a great groundwork for a damn good dlc

There was more content for the game planned, but due to some IRL issues the dev went ahead and released the game. There's several places in the game where it LOOKS like you should be able to do something, but there's nothing there. On the one hand, it's pretty frustrating to run into when your trying to 100% the game and there are so many dead ends, but on the other hand, it DOES leave the game in state that's pretty DLC friendly. And what is in the game is solid and fun. So I would welcome the DLC.

There's a puzzle game called Tactical Nexus that just recently went free on Steam, basically because the devs felt guilty taking people's money and *only* having them play a hundred hours of the game rather than the 10,000 the game boasts. It's an awesome puzzle game, sort of RPG resource management pushed to its limit kind of thing. It's awesome fun, and the devs seem great, so I HIGHLY recommend checking it out

First puzzle game I've ever seen to have rogue-lite style metaprogression too. You earn medals for beating levels with certain scores, and then in other levels you can access the medal shop to spend your medals on boosts; the more levels you've completed, and the better you completed them, the better the items you can buy in the shop to help you along. It's a really addictive concept

The devs have even said they don't recommend buying ANY DLC unless you've played a few hundred hours of the base game minimum, then buy them one at a time. they even have recommendations for how many sunstone (the meta-currency) you should have before buying any of them

I can’t believe how different some of your solutions were to mine. In the "trickiest puzzle in the game so far" that you solved around the 30th minute, I solved it completely differently, by pushing a shadow block on the spikes which allowed me to trigger a push from my shadowclone while moving leftwards towards the spikes (but since there’s a block there, my character doesn’t move on the spikes). It’s rare to have such precise and complexe sokoban-like puzzles and still be able to come up with really different ideas on how to solve them.

I did that fire puzzle in the goofiest way. I got the demon to keep pushing the blocks on top of each other. No fire used at all. It was so much readjusting location over and over.

This game has been absolutely fantastic, it's not quite my favorite game you've played (that goes to A Can of Wormholes) but it's certainly top 5. It'll be bittersweet seeing the final episode, I don't want it to end yet! Hopefully it gets DLC later down the line that we can return for!

"Is this a boss region?" What gave it away Tyler? Was it the fact that the new mechanic requires the dark gems that are scattered throughout the land as rewards for puzzles attached to secrets? Or maybe it was the ominous dark indigo color of the island? Perhaps the green water was a clue? No, the thing that finally clues him in is realizing that the island uses all the elemental buddies. Sometimes for a genius puzzle solver, Tyler can be ludicrously blind to obvious signs. The whole island screams boss island.
