Great info. I heard having a really dirty truck. If your not keeping your truck clean your probably not doing any maintenance.

There's more truth to this statement then most everyone wants to admit, but I believe it to be true. Thanks for watching.

27:33 we have a hwy that goes from Lake Michigan to pretty far east along the bottom of the state. Always see large commercial trucks (not tractors) pulled over. I do not remember seeing one of them being a clean looking rig. Always dirty. It’s been too obvious not to notice at least that common denominator. Idk about DOT but the public/police perseveres a larger vehicle going faster than a traditional vehicle on the road. You may be going 25 at the posted speed limit but a big truck looks ALL of that 25 mph. Could get you pulled over on a soft reckless, now you have to talk. Really really really enjoyed your program

11:30.. make sure the dumpster is empty at the tip out yard. Nothing left. Carry a flat shovel to make it easier to clean out wet cardboard stuck in the corner

Full-time, I'm a State Trooper. I don't do CMV enforcement but work closely with those who do because there are scale houses off the exit my office is off of and 1 exit up from my home. Been in LE 10 years and work fatal collision reconstruction. I work hand in hand with the DOT folks frequently. EVERYTHING John has said here is spot on and 100% accurate. Y'all have to realize that even under CDL weight, DOT still sees a hooklift/roll-off truck and can have authority depending on your state. In my state, they do if the GCWR is over 10k and it's in commerce. They also don't have to have ARS or PC to make stops on CMVs. Even though a CDL wouldn't be required, a USDOT number is and if you cross state lines (I'm on a state line) you are required to have operating authority (MC Number). As always, excellent quality content and accurate information, John!

i have a class a non-cdl license. And my truck is under 26k gvrw and im not pulling a trailer. I dont do for hire work (in accordance with my license), but i occasionally take my truck out of state to pick something up that i need. Are you saying i would be illegal?
@HighSpeedChase7624 ай бұрын
@@phourgenres it always depends on your state but from what you described I wouldn’t think so. Best to check with someone knowledgeable on the topic from your state though.

Do you have any suggestions on where to store your unused dumpsters? I appreciate all of your videos. If you talked about it in a previous video just let me know and il watch it.
@samedaydumpster7 ай бұрын
I would try storage facilities, they usually have general parking spaces somewhere in the back of their property they use to sell overflow parking. Trucking companies usually have extra space they are willing to rent out. Reach out to a large contractor, you can rent space from him, and hopefully develop a relationship with him that turns into him renting dumpsters from you. There's quite a few options, just drive around the area you are hoping to store some dumpsters and start looking for anyplace that looks like they would;d be open to the idea of you renting a little space. Best of luck brother.

Great video, here in Dallas, the number one thing they look out is dirty trucks, I always see dump trucks pull over a lot , they also check your DOT number and see if company CSA score high then you can get pull over for inspection, I personally been pull over twice in two years and past both times,, my company rewards us if we get a clean inspection, see you here next month.

"A clean truck is a safe truck!" I have heard that more times from Commercial Officers than I care to count. If you have money to wash your equipment and take the time to ensure everything looks good, you're more than likely to have the money and time to do maintenance as well. These aren't my rules... It's how the game is played, and I'm just a player in this game.

In California it go's in cycles, DOT numbers , CA numbers, gross combined weight sticker in right location on doors of trunk even on 3/4 ton trucks if you're pulling a trailer.
@samedaydumpster Жыл бұрын
I've always believed... If you can truck safely and legally in California, you can truck in any state in this country. Tough out west on truckers and regulations.

I know the second Highway patrol sees trucks with dark tint they pull them over. I used to run 5% on my truck and trailer and got hit 3x in one week. I’ve definitely learned my lesson. On the other hand, I would still like some tint on my hooklift. Any insight on what commercial tint laws are? Thanks as always 🙏
If you do get pulled over don’t be a dick to the officer. If your respectful they usually work with you more in my experience.
@samedaydumpster Жыл бұрын
Great advice. The officer has a job to do, just like we do.

I've actually had a DOT officer ask why I was being so nice. I replied (With empty rails) "I was doing 50 in a 55 zone, with my seat belt on and no cell phone. And you still had a reason to pull me over. Hopefully you will be on your way and me on my way as easy as possible" He said thanks, I appreciate that. But I still need to give you this fix-it-ticket for that cracked tail lens.

Love your videos! Doing some research interested in providing rentals, junk removal and light demo in my area do you think hooklift or truck and roll off trailer is a better setup to get started ?
@samedaydumpster Жыл бұрын
To get started out of the gate.... a roll-off trailer. It's the best place to start and get a lot of things about your business figured out before investing large amounts of money. Best of luck.

16k bumper pull standard rail with SRW 10kGVWR 3500. Significantly lower insurance and fly under DOT radar. I can legally haul more than a de-rated 26k hook truck. But yes agree 100% with all your points. Don't give them a single reason.

have you ever been pulled over when running heavy? your rear axle is gonna be the first thing that goes overweight. I pull a 14k dump trailer with my 10kgvwr 2500. rear axle is almost always over when I'm close to the max gcwr.
@BackRoadBound7 ай бұрын
@@scrapmanindustries I have a 6800lb rear axle with a payload rating of 4100lbs. Truck, trailer and 15yard can scales right at 14,000 curb weight. Worst case scenario at 19,000lbs on trailer+ 20% of tongue weight would = 3800lbs on the rear axle. So I would be good up to my legal limit. I bought/built my truck to be the ideal tow vehicle.
@scrapmanindustries7 ай бұрын
@@BackRoadBound might wanna put that thing on the scales instead of just relying on that theory. I believe I have a 6300lbs rear axle rating on my ram. I've been 6500lbs or more multiple times with a 14k bumper pull dump trailer. granted I also have welding stuff in the bed I guess.
@BackRoadBound7 ай бұрын
@@scrapmanindustries True. Perhaps I should scale the rear axle sometime. Too busy right now and I rarely go on interstate. Mostly rural route. 99% of my loads are under 4tons in the can. Mine is a Single cab SRW 3500 derated Chassis cab, no actual bed and I cut 1.5ft off the back frame to make it what would be 6ft bed. This also allowed me to move the hitch receiver closer to the rear axle and therefore transferring more weight to the front axle as well. Like I said, I purpose built this truck, not your average 2500 or 3500.

I got pulled over twice in one day when I was hauling scrap metal for a big scrap yard around here. both times was 70 in a 55 zone. apparently the truck wasn't registered either. Jokes on them though cause I was also a good 20k over gross and there's no way the truck or trailer would have passed any sort of further inspection.
