Soderbergh doesn't get enough credit. He's a true auteur. Not taking any crap from major studios.

In the technical sense, yes. But he's a bit too workmanlike and impersonal to be considered an artist in the same vein as PTA or Quentin Tarantino. He makes movies for craft and craft alone, with no real point of view or intellect being expressed in any way whatsoever. He's good, but a bit boring.
@muditmalhotra862 жыл бұрын
@@Whoa802 this is a really, really accurate viewpoint. this makes me think whether this impersonality in his work is what he's essentially after? because for all that he does, i don't think he'd actually care for his work as an invention instead of a product. nonetheless, i'm quite excited for every soderbergh release myself, hahahaha!

@@Whoa802 Impersonal? How so? His movies all have a handmade feel, you know a SODERBERGH movie when you see it. You can’t watch Erin Brockovich or Magic Mike and come away thinking his work has no heart…. How is it impersonal???

If any of you at ScreenPrism peruse these comments, please give my regards to Susannah and Olivia. Distilling any filmmaker's signature is near impossible, but a chameleon like him is especially challenging. Truly, I've never once heard him detailed so succinctly. Your analysis of how he approaches characterization was sublime. Always felt he was far more of a humanist, so to finally hear that in such a qualified, unpretentious, yet non-reductive way was a warm surprise.

It's tough for us to watch and listen and comprehend, when the cuts are happening so quickly and the VO narration is going by rapidly as well. I suggest that you slow down the narration a bit and give us the audience some time to process, or you could let scenes connected to your argument play out a little longer in support of the points you are making. I'm only trying to help :)
