Ellie has to lie to Jessi about the fireflies because he isnt in on her immunity nor her and Joels record with the fireflies. Its interessting to point out that she technically didn't lie tho, Joel had "a disagreement over some goods" with the fireflies (namely her), which resulted in "some of them dying"

I'm glad I replayed the first game, even though i remembered it well, prior to the TLOU2 release. I knew Ellie would want this all along. Ellie, who wanted to turn with her friend Riley when they both got bitten. Riley turned, Ellie didn't. I wonder how she felt, seeing Riley get worse with every minute and feeling nothing in her body to signal something wrong. Then Riley turned. As she told Sam "They might still look like people, but that person is not there anymore". She had to kill her, then go back to Marlene and ask "WTF am I still alive?" Upon hearing that this never, ever happened to anyone in all these 20 years, the possibility of vaccine - so Riley dying and her staying behind can actually be a good thing? She can fix the world by herself? Remember how Marlene told Joel "She'd want this. And you know it."? How Ellie told Joel "Her name was Riley and she was the first to die. I'm still waiting for my turn."? She wanted to die even on the way to Jackson with Joel. What's there to ask? Even from doctor's perspective, this was a girl that almost drowned when they found her. A girl that wasn't even supposed to be there, because their crew on the other side of the country was gone. A girl that traveled all the way through, risking her life several times a day just to get there. For a blood test? Who does that? And he still asked Marlene for approval. Marlene, who knew better than anyone what Ellie wanted. So what do you do then? Wake her up to tell her "Hey, we know you'd want that, but just so you know, you'll die. Enjoy that knowledge" or let her sleep in peace? They knew nothing about Joel. They did not know he lost his daughter, they did not know what transpired between him and Ellie and what they went through. When Abby found her dad's body, what was she supposed to think? Why did the smuggler take the girl and kill everyone in the building by himself? Who knows, probably to sell her off somewhere better. Joel was right to save Ellie from his perspective, but I believe the Fireflies were right too. Unlike Joel, they considered Ellie's opinion. Marlene sure as hell did. She may have been a 14 year old kid then, but she was far more mature than Joel in many ways. And her opinion did not change when she got older.

27:09 the most unrealistic part of this game is the Zebra. D-:< Zebras are not horses, they are ill tempered donkeys that grew up surrounded by lions, they are mean af.
