Hey, Ryan. I love the work. I’m a beginner. I can play most of this but it needs some work. There are parts I struggle with. Do you make any videos of you playing with the chords/strum pattern on screen and playing through the full song? If not, that’s cool. Thanks, man! I appreciate your work, you’ve helped me a lot.
@RyanLendt4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for being here Art, and I wish you the heartiest of luck on your guitar journey. I do not do that. Mostly because it would 10x my production time, but a little bit because I feel that kind of spoon feeding hinders real learning (but sure it would make it easier to play a song right off the bat). That's my two cents - not that you asked :)
@artvandelay83204 жыл бұрын
Ryan Lendt that makes sense. No hard feelings. It’s your page and your style and I respect that. I’ve watched about 5-6 other videos and some of them have it so I thought I’d ask! Your style on this song seems to sound the best for acoustic.

Btw, I Will be doing lots and lots of lessons with you soon, LOL. For this betterman version, it looks as if, when you get to, "as she rolls over", perhaps: - you stop pulling off on the B? - also, are you adding a couple base notes? - Finally, are you mixing up the e, b and g stringn notes as you move up and then back down the fretboard? Or am I way off? If not, would you be kind enough to dial us in with the exact voicings/and or finger placements with any of the above? Thank you again!!!

You’ve got to start doing the whole thing all the way through at the beginning or even at the end. Not just like I’d previously said as it can help with the learning, but cos you’re damn good! Great, great cover. I sometimes forget how much I love PJ. Was searching old stuff the other day and came across a live performance of Given To Fly from about 2000. The one with the girl who is interpreting using sign language. Was so magical! And then I was reading the comments and discovered she passed away a couple of years ago. So very sad. For some reason was always quite emotional that track. Even more so now.

@RyanLendt6 жыл бұрын
you're very welcome Wim, thank you for being here! during the D/F# in betterman you're selectively finger picking low E, G, and B, so you're right you wouldn't hear the D string :) good ear mate

Ryan Lendt thanks for the quick response :) But about halfway you start strumming these chords right? It’s then that I wonder if you’re muting some strings...

oh yes of course! you know, maybe i'm muting D and A to enunciate the E - F - and G "ness" of the shape as it moves up the neck. great question, i never really thought about it! I'd be muting them with my pointer finger and the baby E string with my ring finger
